The government will set up nine permanent flood evacuation centres (PPK) to mitigate damage to schools used as temporary evacuation centres (PPS), says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Speaking after launching the Rural Road Project at Jalan Peket 100, Simpang Lima, Sungai Besar, Selangor on Sunday (Dec 8), Ahmad Zahid, who also chairs the National Disaster Management Committee (Nadma), said one permanent evacuation centre would be set up in each high-risk state to address the high maintenance costs incurred during floods.
