The government will set up nine permanent flood evacuation centres (PPK) to mitigate damage to schools used as temporary evacuation centres (PPS), says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Speaking after launching the Rural Road Project at Jalan Peket 100, Simpang Lima, Sungai Besar, Selangor on Sunday (Dec 8), Ahmad Zahid, who also chairs the National Disaster Management Committee (Nadma), said one permanent evacuation centre would be set up in each high-risk state to address the high maintenance costs incurred during floods.

00:00We are aware that PPS is provided in high location schools, but 9 permanent training centres are being provided, at least one in each country, and it depends on the regulations.
00:24We will provide permanent training centres because it is too expensive to rebuild the training centres, especially when the students have to be rehabilitated, and there are a lot of schools that don't have offices.
00:43This will be handled by the Ministry of Education, with the help of JKR and the Ministry of Finance.
