00:00We're focusing on various myths that we need to debunk
00:04and this one you're going to like because we're going to talk about
00:07correlation between frequency of ejaculation and also prostate cancer.
00:19Contrary to common belief in the East especially when you ejaculate too much
00:24then you might actually bring down your Qi.
00:26Some people even believe that you might end up with kidney failures
00:30and in the West they always worry about whether there's a risk of getting
00:36prostate cancer with frequent ejaculation.
00:39So believe it or not in US there was a study called the Harvard Ejaculation Study.
00:46In this study they focus at more than 29,000 men in the New England area.
00:53These are all the volunteers telling the actual investigator how frequent they ejaculated.
01:00So there was a group of men in the younger age group and the middle age
01:05and focusing them from 1986 until year 2000
01:10and they declare how often they either have nocturnal emission or masturbation or intercourse.
01:18And in this study believe it or not with number of frequency of sex or ejaculation that you have
01:27the risk of prostate cancer can reduce by up to 36%.
01:32So in this study one group of men declaring between 4 to 7 times of ejaculation per month
01:39versus 21 times a month the risk difference is 36% of getting prostate cancer in older age.
01:48So is this really a study that can be replicated?
01:52In fact in Down Under in Australia they looked at 2,338 men with a similar outcome.
02:01Essentially looking at men who ejaculated almost on a daily basis
02:06versus the men who only ejaculated between 4 to 7 times a month
02:12again the difference is about 30% reduction in prostate cancer.
02:18So in summary frequent ejaculation probably is protective rather than risky for the cancer
02:28development. Some critics say that if you have more frequent ejaculation by definition you're
02:34probably healthier who knows but the risk is probably not there in developing cancer in the
02:42future. For the following week there's another myth we need to debunk it's talking about
02:48frequency of ejaculation correlations with your sperm quality.
02:52If you're interested stay tuned for next week's Putting Dr G on the Spot.
