00:22The Provincial Court of Candal has sentenced the 13 Filipinas

00:27who were caught in the surrogacy in Cambodia.

00:34to become surrogate mothers for more than $10,000.

00:39The Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs said

00:42it is sad that Filipinas are still going to be jailed there.

00:45But they are still thankful to Cambodia for the lower sentence given to the Filipinas.

00:52As far as I know, if we accept the sentence,

00:56we don't know if they will appeal.

00:59But for us, it looks like their lawyers have already done everything they can.

01:04First of all, the sentence they are facing is 15 to 20 years.

01:08Why did the lawyers do everything to lower the sentence?

01:12At that time, they were not charged with surrogacy.

01:16That happened for 20 years.

01:19The sentence was only up to 4 years, then it was reduced to 2 years.

01:22The sentence was only 2 years.

01:24For now, the government's priority is to take care of the 13 Filipinas.

01:30One of them is carrying a baby.

01:34This will not be given to those who paid them to become surrogate mothers.

01:39But it is being studied that here in the Philippines, children are taken care of.

01:44If Cambodia agrees, one of the first things we will do

01:47is to process their birth certificates to our embassy.

01:53So there is a high possibility that when the children return to the Philippines,

01:58we will refer them to the DSWD and NACC
