The Government has admitted that potentially up to 7,000 buildings with unsafe materials remain unidentified. Under a new Remediation Acceleration Plan, all high-rises over 18m with dangerous cladding will be fixed by 2029. Buildings over 11m will also be addressed or scheduled by then, with penalties for non-compliance. 00:00Well the action is now. We know that people have waited too long. It's been seven and a half years
00:04since the Grenfell Tower tragedy showed the extent of dangerous cladding in this country.
00:09On the current trajectory that we've inherited as a government, it'll be into the 2040s before
00:14that's resolved. We don't think that's good enough. So the measures that we're announcing
00:17to Parliament today bring that forward to 2029. We want it to be as quick as it can be,
00:22but we think that's the right line in the sand to draw. What those people have been through has been
00:26the most unimaginable pain. The report of course came back earlier in the year. We made a commitment
00:33that within six months, around March time, we will come back with the government's response
00:37to the recommendations of that inquiry. So the Prime Minister will be launching that then. At
00:41the moment we're talking to those families, we're talking to the immediate community,
00:44we're talking to the bereaved and survivors to make sure that the response is as good as possible.
