Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey criticised the government for failing to properly consult bereaved families before confirming Grenfell Tower’s demolition. He urged the importance of involving survivors and relatives at every stage. Davey also encouraged ministers to speed up the removal of dangerous cladding from other buildings to prevent future tragedies. Report by Covellm. 00:00First of all let's remember the sad fact that 72 people lost their lives and there are survivors
00:06and families who are still traumatised by what happened. I'm disappointed that it seems
00:11the government didn't speak to the bereaved families in the way that I think they really
00:15ought to have done. So I hope they will do that now and I hope they will push forward
00:21and faster in making sure that the cladding that obviously caused the dreadful catastrophe
00:26at Grenfell, that that cladding is removed from existing buildings because it's taken
00:30far too long to sort out so many other apartment blocks. I remember talking to them just after
00:36the fire, some of them who were just in total shock at the time, and when you've seen them
00:43interviewed the anger and the hurt, not surprisingly, is very real and I think they need to play
00:52their part in the way they played such an incredible part during the inquiry. It's
00:56really important that the bereaved families and the survivors are consulted at all stages.
