00:00That's a rabbit hole I don't want to go down. Obviously, I'm a big kid. I have to be cagey.
00:04Jude, it's always a pleasure to see you. You are really ticking off all those big franchises,
00:09aren't you? You've done Marvel, you've done Harry Potter, Star Wars. Is this a special one for you
00:14because Star Wars, for me, holds a really special place in my heart growing up with it.
00:18I think it does. I think it does with a lot of people. And it is a special one because this
00:22universe, this franchise, was connected to my formative experience of going to the cinema.
00:30I'd been before, obviously, probably to see Disney animated films, but suddenly Star Wars,
00:35it sort of changed everything and then had a great influence then on kids of my age,
00:41how we played, the toys we played with. And so, yeah, it held a really special place in my heart
00:47too. And I'm just curious, I've realised, I love seeing how it's done. And you mentioned the other
00:56franchises I've worked in, you all do it slightly differently. And it's interesting. It's really
01:02interesting. Is it really hard, though, for you on this one to talk about your character? Because
01:07I feel like we haven't seen all there is to see from him. We haven't got a clue where it's going.
01:13For you, you obviously know everything. So it must be really hard talking to us and being like...
01:18No, I mean, I have to be cagey, but there's enough that I can tell you that I hope makes him
01:27interesting. I just can't fill in or give you answers.
01:30Okay. What's the most interesting thing you can tell me then?
01:33Well, that he's changeable. Multifaceted.
01:40I love that he's got this kind of desperation. He's kind of like a survivor.
01:43Yeah.
01:44And yet he also seems to have certain gifts, certainly of the gab, potentially force-sensitive.
01:50I mean, he's very, very complex. And for an actor, that's wonderful stuff to play with.
01:56It feels like it's you. I don't know. It just suits you really well, this character. I feel
02:01like, yeah, you can completely embody it. I've met the kids now.
02:04Good.
02:05They are incredible. They bounce off each other so well. They have been telling me about antics
02:11and stuff they got up to. What was it like for you? Was it kind of crazy? You've worked with
02:16kids before. I know that. But these guys just were wonderful.
02:19They just impressed me from day one. First of all, it was brilliant casting. I mean,
02:25they've cast them so well. But they aren't playing themselves. They're actors. So they
02:31arrived prepared, took it very seriously, were really able to go there. And there's some dark
02:39areas. I mean, what John Watts does so well, if you've seen some of his other work, is he makes
02:45plausible children, but then he puts them in situations of real jeopardy, which is interesting.
02:49It's like, how do they handle it? But of course, they're kids. So they came with a spirit of play
02:56and awe. And there were goofy, crazy days where we were all laughing our heads off.
03:02They were allowed to play as well, which you can't. You shouldn't sort of hinder.
03:06No. It should be a fun experience for them, I hope.
03:08For everyone.
03:09Yes. Yes. Even for you, to be a big kid.
03:12I mean, I dress up and pretend to be other people for my life, for my work. That's like,
03:16obviously I'm a big kid.
03:17You have to be a big kid. And I'm curious, when you're approached about stuff like this,
03:22I'm not asking you about whether you're going to appear in any other shows or anything like that,
03:27but are there discussions about, oh, this character could potentially be...
03:32Not initially, no. It's very much job at hand. And it should be. It's one step at a time. Let's
03:39get this right. That was very clearly the modus operandi. You want to get it absolutely right,
03:46and then you have to wait and see. And I think a lot of that is to do with fan reaction.
03:51People liking or taking to a character. And then if a piece is a success, they also obviously look
03:57at this. It's a big galaxy. It's a big universe. Who crosses who in what timeline?
04:01Yeah. There's so much excitement with it. When I've looked online, all the
04:05comments for the trailer are so positive, which is so nice.
04:08That's really nice. I don't read that stuff, so it's good to hear.
04:12Yeah. You shouldn't read it, because we all get...
04:14That's a rabbit hole I don't want to go into.
04:16Yeah, exactly. None of us want to. But what I've seen is overwhelmingly positive.
04:20Good. Good, good, good.
04:21Good luck with it.
04:22And I will speak to you tomorrow.
