00:00The DOST will implement 8 big-ticket research and development programs starting next year
00:07including a framework that is centered on the circular economy
00:11where recycling of garbage is included.
00:15This is what Rod Lagusan said.
00:19We cannot remain business as usual.
00:23We need to change the way we do things.
00:31And we need to start sooner.
00:35Because projections based on empirical data do not show a stabilized world system.
00:43We need to start now.
00:46This is what Secretary Renato Solidong Jr. gave at the opening of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Week of DOST in Cagayan, De Oro City.
00:55It is centered on giving importance to sustainability,
00:58the proper use of our resources that do not damage the environment for the benefit of the public
01:04as well as the upcoming strong typhoons in the country.
01:08According to Calihim, the effects of climate change cannot be ignored.
01:12That is why we need to respond to this.
01:14DOST will implement 8 big-ticket research and development programs starting next year
01:20including a framework that is centered on the circular economy.
01:23This is about a system where waste is stopped
01:27because a thing or material is being used for recycling, reuse or reuse, remanufacture, etc.
01:35Especially here in the Philippines, garbage is a big problem like plastic.
01:39The framework is divided into 4 parts.
01:41The Think Green, which is based on awareness, education and planning for circular economy practices.
01:47Make Green, for the creation of innovative technologies to reduce waste.
01:51Turn Green, for the promotion of technology transfer and commercialization of eco-friendly solutions.
01:56And Keep Green, that all of this can be maintained through strategic action, long-term partnerships and continuous improvement or change.
02:04The estimated value of the investment for this is about 1.3 billion pesos.
02:08But for this to happen, everyone needs to work together.
02:11We also need to work with the large industries.
02:14For example, because malls and big businesses use plastic,
02:21we should not just tell them to be responsible, but we need to work with them so that we can find solutions for them.
02:29According to Solidum, this October, they passed a Memorandum of Agreement on big businesses.
02:34And when it comes to the issue of cutting trees, which is usually the cause of floods and landslides.
02:39We're looking at how to produce more but not harming the environment.
02:49So that's why we're pushing for one, the use of bamboo instead of trees for furniture, for columns and beams.
03:02As long as it's engineered.
03:04This also includes the production of agricultural commodities that are not affected by the condition of the land.
03:09This is part of the priority agenda of the President, so that the wealth from the land will not be affected.
03:14Rod Laguzad, for Pambansang TV, in Bagong, Philippines.
