00:07And you see in the UK, there is the Conservative and then Liberal, but now Labour.

00:23Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called for Malaysia to adopt a two-party system

00:28to prevent a hung parliament.

00:30He said the current political landscape, characterised by fragmented parties and splinter groups,

00:35had weakened the ability of any single party to form a stable government.

00:40The sonic amno, which ruled the country for more than 70 years,

00:46became split into five parties, five very weak parties.

00:53When you split a party into five, the support would be also split into five

01:02and none of the five, none of them would be big enough to win a majority.

01:10Mahathir said the last general election had highlighted the dangers of such fragmentation,

01:14with no single party able to secure a clear mandate from the voters.

01:19He said moving towards a two-party system was essential to ensure a stable government

01:24that reflects the will of the people.
