00:00Hillary and I are profoundly shocked and saddened by the tragedy today in Littleton.
00:05Our nation is shocked and saddened by the news of the shootings at Virginia Tech today.
00:11We heard for the entire community of Parkland, Florida, that is now in shock and pain and searching for answers.
00:21All America has looked and listened with shared grief.
00:27Today our nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones at Virginia Tech.
00:32I know there's not a parent in America who doesn't feel the same overwhelming grief that I do.
00:38Today I speak to a nation in grief.
00:43Hillary mentioned there was another school shooting in Atlanta today.
00:46As a country, we have been through this too many times.
00:50Whether it's an elementary school in Newton, or a shopping mall in Oregon, or a temple in Wisconsin,
00:58or a movie theater in Aurora, or a street corner in Chicago.
01:02Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
01:06Santa Fe High School in Texas.
01:09Oxford High School in Michigan.
01:11The list goes on and on.
01:12I told him that my administration would do everything possible to assist with the investigation.
01:17He will have every single resource that he needs to investigate this heinous crime.
01:23Our administration is working closely with local authorities to investigate the shooting.
01:28Schools should be places of safety and sanctuary in learning.
01:32No child, no teacher should ever be in danger in an American school.
01:39In the scriptures, St. Paul says that all of us in this life see through a glass darkly.
01:44We hold on to God's word in scripture.
01:48I have heard your prayer and seen your tears.
01:52I will heal you.
01:54In the words of scripture, heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.
02:01Scripture says the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
02:09We need to have a candid assessment about what more we can do to try to prevent these things from happening.
02:16And we're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.
02:23It is not enough to simply take actions that make us feel like we are making a difference.
02:30We must actually make that difference.
02:34When in God's name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?
02:40When in God's name we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?
02:46I am sick and tired of it.
02:49We have to act.
02:52And don't tell me we can't have an impact on this carnage.
02:57I can only say tonight that the prayers of the American people are with you.
03:02I told them that Laura and I and many across our nation are praying for the victims and their families.
03:09Remind them that we are there for them, that we are praying for them.
03:15Our entire nation, with one heavy heart, is praying for the victims and their families.
03:23Tonight, I ask the nation to pray for them.
