Transcript
00:00One-third of Pakistan is underwater after a monster monsoon killed over 1,000 people
00:06and caused at least $10 billion in damage.
00:09The weeks-long rain has destroyed homes, crops, and infrastructure and displaced nearly 500,000
00:16people.
00:17According to the government, it has affected a total of 33 million people, or 15% of the
00:23country's population.
00:25This disaster, however, is just the latest example of how countries that contribute the
00:30least to global warming still remain most vulnerable to irreversible climate change.
00:36Pakistan has one of the lowest carbon footprints in the world, and officials there are now
00:40calling on the rest of the world to take responsibility and help them recover from these devastating
00:46effects of man-made climate change.
00:49Officials also believe the recent flash flooding event is worse than the flooding of 2010,
00:54which prompted the largest-ever disaster appeal from the United Nations.
