00:00Storms and flooding across Europe last year affected around 413,000 people,

00:06leading to the loss of at least 335 lives, according to a new report.

00:11The latest European State of the Climate report from the EU's Copernicus service

00:15estimated the impacts to have cost at least €18 billion in damages.

00:20Finances in the report by more than 100 scientific experts also showed

00:24Storms were often severe, flooding was widespread, and record-breaking heatwaves gripped parts of the continent.

00:32In September, storm buries affected hundreds of thousands of people in parts of Germany, Poland, Austria, and Hungary.

00:39Its impact were also felt in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and Italy.

00:44Wildfires in Portugal in September burned around 110,000 hectares of land in a week,

00:50while around 42,000 people in total were impacted by blazes across the continent.

00:56Experts from the Copernicus Service and the World Meteorological Organization

01:00warned that an additional fraction of a degree of temperature rise matters,

01:05as it accentuates the risk to people's lives, to economies, and to the planet.
