00:00they say you can't have too much of a good thing but i've just watched 19 christmas adverts in a
00:07row yes 19 19 one less than 20 in a row and i can firmly say you can i'm tech writer matt
00:16monaghan and for whatever reason i decided to watch all of the adverts released by big british
00:22brands this christmas all in one go and yeah you can imagine i my festive spirit is high
00:31but i do feel like i've gorged myself on christmas pudding like five days in a row and got like the
00:38worst sugar rush ever what i have learned is i've found which i think are the best and which i think
00:44are the worst and the worst unquestionably is coca-cola's ai christmas advert the weird
00:51ai reimagining of um the holidays are coming the famous advert with the coca-cola truck
00:59that was so famous that they send around the coca-cola truck around britain usually every
01:03christmas um for whatever reason they've reinvented it with ai and it's it's just
01:11horrible like these ai adverts like they're just sinister personally like as a creative person
01:16i find them ghastly and it's pretty hilarious to have polar bears in the video when the energy
01:25required to produce ai content and generative ai is like massive and contributing to polar bears
01:32not having a place to live anymore that one got zero jingle bells on my christmas rating in fact
01:38it got lumps of coal in stockings for everyone involved in that advert shame let's end on a
01:45good note at the other end of the spectrum the two best i mean there's been quite there's quite
01:48a lot of good ones like barber's one with sean the sheep is really charming um the pepsi max
01:55one's pretty funny like in a not particularly memorable way but it's a good fun christmas
01:59advert but the two best the real standouts for me personally anyway is um tesco's is
02:08christmas feeding you christmas spirit advert which is the one where it's like the grandson
02:13and the granddad and they're keeping up the tradition of the late grandmother who used to
02:17make gingerbread houses at christmas and he sees the world all through gingerbread and like the
02:23fish in his fish tank turn to gingerbread and at the end they present the gingerbread and there's
02:28pictures of their grandma and gingerbreads throughout the years and it's just really
02:32heartwarming and it's what christmas should be about really uh so i give that 4.75 jingle bells
02:38and then at the top with 4.95 jingle bells was john lewis's the gifting hour i've not been mega
02:45big on john lewis christmas adverts in recent years aside from edgar i really liked edgar that
02:51was fun but the gifting hour is like brilliant now i do have a brother so i am probably biased
02:56towards an advert that features siblings in you know sort of joyous christmas spirit but i think
03:02it's like a really touching story of you know finding that perfect christmas present and
03:07you know sort of channeling your past and your memories to try and work out what someone would
03:12want if they've given you a list or if they haven't even given you like a sparse list or something
03:18so yeah it's really good it's really strong effort and it's one of the best john lewis
03:22adverts so far so these are the best and the worst christmas adverts that i've watched after i
03:28survived watching 19 in a row now i'm gonna go and lie in a dark room or listen to black metal or
03:36something to just yeah counteract all this sugar rush bye
