00:00After more than 10 years of diplomacy and cooperation with the Indonesian government,

00:06Mary Jane Veloso is now going home to the Philippines.

00:10President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. also claimed that Mary Jane is an ordinary Filipino

00:16who became a victim of poverty and opportunity.

00:20The government clarified that the Indonesian government has no intention of returning Mary Jane Veloso.

00:32President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was happy to report that Mary Jane Veloso is going home

00:38after more than a decade of imprisonment in Indonesia.

00:41In a statement, the President said that this is the result of more than a decade of diplomacy and consultation with the Indonesian government,

00:48which is the reason for the delay in the execution of Mary Jane Veloso until the agreement to return her to the country,

00:54even though there is no agreement at present.

00:56According to the President, Mary Jane experienced a difficult battle after her arrest in 2010.

01:02He also pointed out that Mary Jane's story is funny to many.

01:06A mother who was a victim of poverty, who made a desperate choice that changed the course of her life.

01:13Although it is proven that she was wrong, the executive board also reduced the opportunity of Mary Jane Veloso as a victim.

01:19So the President thanked Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto

01:22for showing the goodwill that gave way for Veloso to return to the country.

01:28It is noteworthy that the President repeatedly reduced the case of Mary Jane to the heads of the high-ranking Indonesian officials.

01:34This is one of the President's strong points when he attended the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Indonesia last year.

01:52We agree, we understand that he is convicted, we understand that the law in Indonesia is that way,

01:59but nonetheless, maybe we can find a way, we will just wait for it, we will be the ones to punish him, whatever.

02:06But anyway, to ask for clemency, to ask for grace.

02:13DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega made it clear that the Indonesian government did not ask for a replacement for the case of Veloso.

02:20But in the case of clemency for Veloso, there is a possibility that President Marcos Jr. will give it.

02:26It depends on what the two countries will discuss.

02:29But even if this does not happen, the country will continue to push for the Indonesian government to consider Veloso to be free.
