00:00Kavon Looney is going to crash our party. I just hope that's okay. So go ahead, keep chatting.
00:05Kavon Looney's gonna come on right now in the middle of the crossover.
00:09Cool! So go ahead, you guys can jump in with us, but go ahead.
00:13Well, I got Kavon Looney being overwhelmed. He very seldom gets double-teamed, and now there's gonna be four guys swarming him.
00:20Looney's got trouble brewing!
00:22We'll see if he can handle it.
00:24We'll see if he can handle it. Tell him we want to still do the big finish with him, though.
00:28No doubt, no doubt.
00:30He's on the phone right now making dinner plans with the guys. He doesn't know you.
00:34He's talking to Raymond Ritter.
00:36We'll leave it to Lucas, the director of Starbucks.
00:38We got Kavon Looney.
00:40Is he up? Is he ready?
00:42Hey, Kavon, what's going on?
00:44Hey, what's up? How y'all doing?
00:46Why don't you just take over the lead here, because it's 2 o'clock.
00:48Okay, but you're not leaving.
00:50Kavon Looney?
00:52Yes, joining us on the River Island's guest line is none other than Kavon Looney.
00:54Have you ever been interviewed by four different media dorks at once, Kavon?
00:58No, I haven't. It's my first time.
01:00Look at that.
01:02It's a new thing. Y'all be on there at one time.
01:04So tell us about a 12-man rotation and the sustainability of this and how the guys are handling that as a group.
01:14I think everybody's handling it well.
01:16It's a little different.
01:18Everybody wants to play a lot of minutes, but I think everybody's been sacrificing and buying in.
01:22We've been winning games.
01:24We've been playing our style of basketball, which is playing fast and not really pushing the pace.
01:28Everybody knows when they go out there that you've got to play as hard as they can so they live for the time that they're getting.
01:34It's been cool. I think it's sustainable.
01:36It's a long season.
01:38It's going to be ups and downs.
01:40The guys are going to be in and out of the lineup with injuries and different things like that.
01:42We're deep in it.
01:44You've got to stay ready and keep buying in.
01:46It's a little bit like a four-man radio rotation.
01:48We do this every day at 145 Kavon.
01:50Sometimes it's my day.
01:52Sometimes it's Guru.
01:54I kind of feel like I'm the Kavon Looney of this little segment because some days I'm a monster.
02:02Some days I lay back.
02:04How do you, as the Kavon Looney of the Warriors, pick your spots and realize when it's your game and maybe when it's not your game?
02:12I think that's more on the coaches.
02:14It's going to be my game or not.
02:16I try to just go out there when I get my time.
02:18I try to make the most of it.
02:20I try to have impact.
02:22I kind of can tell by how the match-ups are.
02:24I'm going to be used more.
02:26I just try to go out there and be me to the best of my ability.
02:28Hopefully, it works out for me.
02:30The last couple of games have been up.
02:32I played the last game and a lot of games before that.
02:34I didn't get in at all.
02:36You've got to stay ready and stay sharp mentally.
02:38Hey, Loon, I've got to do this for my son.
02:40Forget basketball.
02:42It's about hair.
02:44We go back to when you had waves and the low cut.
02:46But now you're long.
02:48Hair long like Rapunzel.
02:50Can you give my son some tips?
02:52Because he's seeing you at the free throw line.
02:54He's like, Dad, I'm trying to get like Loon.
02:56You're out there banging.
02:58How many years have you been letting it grow?
03:00I think it's my third year.
03:02I never thought I would be here.
03:04I thought I would always have short hair.
03:06During the pandemic, I said, forget it.
03:08I'm just going to grow it out.
03:10It's been working for me.
03:12You're looking sharp, man.
03:14You're looking sharp.
03:16You're listening to 95.7 The Game.
03:18KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco.
03:20Always live on the free Odyssey app.
03:22Twitch and YouTube powered by First NorCal Credit Union.
03:24There's one thing that I don't like, Kavan.
03:26Oh, boy.
03:28It's false advertising.
03:30And I'm looking at your numbers right now.
03:32Yeah, okay, that's fine.
03:34You're having a nice little year.
03:36That's great.
03:38When are you going to take a three?
03:40You said you were going to take threes.
03:42I see zero for zero.
03:44I told you I wasn't going to force it.
03:46I was going to get in the flow.
03:48And the flow hasn't been going my way for the threes.
03:50Hopefully, these next couple of games, I've got to get one up.
03:52If I don't get one up by December,
03:54Steve might not let me get them up.
03:56I've got to show I can do it now.
03:58In 2021, you took 17 threes.
04:00You've got to get back on that pace.
04:02I've got to get back on that pace.
04:04I don't remember that.
04:06I'm not on a good pace right now,
04:08but I'm going to get there.
04:10Come on, actually.
04:12You know what's funny?
04:14To that end, and I don't know how many people have done this.
04:16I don't know how many people saw you play at UCLA.
04:18You are such a different player.
04:22You do have that jumper in you.
04:24That was the norm back with the Bruins, man.
04:28What is the evolution of your game from that time?
04:32I'm just trying to adapt to a different team.
04:36Back when I was in college and high school,
04:38we didn't play a lot of motion.
04:40It was a lot of standstill offense.
04:42I didn't have Steph Curry running around
04:44and Clay and Buddy Hill,
04:46different guys like that.
04:48The game was easier just to make reads.
04:50If I was open shooting, that was it.
04:52Now, since I've been with the Warriors,
04:54we play a lot faster, a lot more movement.
04:56I'm kind of playing the center.
04:58My job is to connect the offense,
05:00move the ball from side to side,
05:02get my shooters open, and they go hit me in the pocket.
05:04I've got to roll.
05:06When you're playing with a guy like Steph,
05:08he don't need you to pop, he needs you to roll.
05:10He causes so much attention, you need an outlet for the ball.
05:12Different things like that kind of change
05:14the way I approach the game.
05:16I still work on my jump shot.
05:18I have faith in it, but a lot of times
05:20it's not a call for me to shoot.
05:22A lot of times I get it and I'm open.
05:24Steve wants me to go to the next option
05:26and hand it off to Buddy, and he's usually open.
05:28That's how our offense runs,
05:30that's how our offense flows.
05:32I don't want three champs just playing that way,
05:34so it's kind of hard to turn it off.
05:36Yeah, kind of hard when you've got three rings because of it.
05:38A guy that you played against
05:40on Tuesday had the four rings.
05:42What was that like for you to see Clay out there
05:44rocking 31 for the Mavericks?
05:46It was extremely weird.
05:48When they announced Kyrie Irving
05:50and he said number 11,
05:52you just assumed it was going to be Clay coming out to 11,
05:54but it was with a different jersey,
05:56a different uniform.
05:58But the game was a lot of fun.
06:00That's what I expected it to be like.
06:02With those, Steph, Draymond, Clay,
06:04none of them want to lose to each other in cards.
06:06They don't want to lose in shooting competition.
06:08They don't want to lose in a race.
06:10I knew in a game like that,
06:12it was going to be a lot of fun, a lot of juices,
06:14a lot of trash talking.
06:16I think it lived up to the hype.
06:18Lonnie, let me ask you about just coming to work
06:20because we always act like we know,
06:22but we don't know what really goes on
06:24but it's no secret the last couple of years
06:26that it's been off just a tad bit.
06:28But you guys added three new players
06:30and it seems like the connectivity
06:32is just on 1,000.
06:34Can you just speak to how fast
06:36that manifested? Was that the trip to Hawaii?
06:38Because it just looks like you guys
06:40are just having a blast.
06:42Definitely.
06:44I think the trip to Hawaii helped.
06:46After the last season,
06:48after not making the playoffs,
06:50everybody had to look at each other in the mirror
06:52and hold themselves accountable.
06:54Last year wasn't
06:56up to our standards.
06:58We had a decent record, but we didn't make the playoffs.
07:00We were talking about winning championships
07:02and not even making the playoffs
07:04was something that none of us foresaw.
07:06This offseason,
07:08I think everybody locked in
07:10and put all their egos and stuff to the side.
07:12Everybody was buying in
07:14and listening to our coaching staff.
07:16We got our identity back
07:18and we just got out there playing with joy.
07:20It brought a different energy. It brought a new life.
07:22The young guys got better and I think everything
07:24is starting to click
07:26at the right time. It's a long season.
07:28There's only been 10-11 games
07:30and we've got a lot more to prove, but
07:32we like the way we're playing and we're off to a good start.
07:34Kevon Looney joining us on 95.7 The Game.
07:36Let me quick ask you about this
07:3811-man, 12-man rotation.
07:40When Steve Kerr said,
07:42I'm going to try to do this,
07:44and now you watch
07:46the people on TV
07:48and they say it's not sustainable.
07:50My question to you is
07:52what would be the reasons it works
07:54and what would maybe be a reason
07:56that it might not work?
07:58I think it all
08:00falls on the players.
08:02If we want it to work, it can work.
08:04If we buy in
08:06that we're going to make the most of our time
08:08and not complain about minutes, not complain about
08:10not getting enough time
08:12or not starting,
08:14that could be a problem when guys start complaining
08:16and bickering about things.
08:18If we all buy into the system and buy into
08:20that this 12-man rotation
08:22is going to make us win
08:24and we're all going to chip in
08:26and wait on our turn, I think it's going to work.
08:28I think it's all based on the players
08:30and based on our belief in the system
08:32and us buying in. I think we've been buying in so far
08:34and that's why it's been working.
08:36Kevon, with four different hosts
08:38asking you questions, that gave me a moment
08:40to do a little internet research
08:42while I was waiting for my turn to come back
08:44around over here.
08:46Yeah, exactly. Super weird.
08:48I wonder,
08:50do you know off the top of your head
08:52what your career 3-point percentage is?
08:54My career?
08:56Yes. I think you might have brought
08:58it up last time I talked to you.
09:0017%?
09:02Now I'm that guy.
09:04Do you know?
09:06It was like 18% or something crazy like that, right?
09:08It is
09:1016.7% at this hour.
09:12You said I was like 16% for 41%
09:14or something like that?
09:16I've got you at 10% for 60%.
09:18I've got you at 10%, but do you remember
09:20the last one you hit, though?
09:24Actually, I don't.
09:26No, I don't.
09:28Two years ago, maybe?
09:30I've got you going back to the
09:322020-21 season
09:34when you hit four of them that year.
09:36Yeah.
09:38Every other three out of the shots
09:40since then was probably a half-court shot,
09:42so you can't hold that percentage.
09:44And we don't.
09:46I just wondered.
09:48Some guys know more about their stats
09:50than others, and I didn't figure you
09:52to be a box score guy, actually.
09:54I know I didn't shoot a lot of them.
09:56I don't count any of my threes.
09:58The last three years, I don't remember shooting any,
10:00so I don't count them.
10:02I'm still 0-0.
10:04I love it. We're all dying to see the next one.
10:06I can't help but think about you
10:08with the two. Not the two at the rim,
10:10but the mid-range two.
10:12Are you more comfortable now, this year,
10:14shooting at 12- to 18-footer?
10:16Definitely.
10:18I've been comfortable, but this summer
10:20I worked on my shooting a lot,
10:22so I feel a lot more comfortable shooting those shots.
10:24Just trying to pick the right spot to shoot them.
10:26In this new NBA,
10:28the long twos and the mid-range
10:30is not something you want to get every time.
10:32We want to shoot a lot of threes. We want to play fast.
10:34We want to play at the rim.
10:36We want to get those shots up.
10:38I'm definitely comfortable shooting there.
10:40Looney, I know it's early,
10:42but I've got a question.
10:44I've been complaining about
10:46every time the Warriors play another team,
10:48a star or a couple guys are out.
10:50I'm just curious.
10:52How soon of the team that you're playing
10:54do you find out who's not available?
10:56How does that work?
10:58Do you think the NBA's got a problem?
11:00Every time you play somebody,
11:02somebody's out.
11:04How is that?
11:06We usually plan for one thing
11:08during our walkthrough,
11:10and then we won't know until
11:12about 30 minutes before the game
11:14when we go into our last little film session
11:16who's actually starting or who's playing or not.
11:18It definitely changes things,
11:20and it's definitely something that
11:22has been a problem for the league.
11:24They've been trying to fix.
11:26Sometimes it's just God's been hurt.
11:28I don't think God's been arrested.
11:30I think God's really been hurt.
11:32Sometimes it's just like
11:34freak injuries happening
11:36in a game of basketball.
11:38I hope to get everybody out there
11:40and play in their full strength.
11:42We've been having some injury bad luck.
11:44We've missed a couple games.
11:46We'll miss some times.
11:48It's tough, but
11:50hopefully everybody can be healthy
11:52and see the matches that everybody wants to see.
11:54That's what makes the NBA great.
11:56Everybody wants to see the stars run the stars.
11:58I think we need a
12:00way to fix that.
12:02We have a little mystery right now in the Bay Area.
12:04Perhaps you could help us solve it.
12:06Kavon,
12:08what was Steph Curry screaming
12:10into the camera?
12:12What did he say exactly?
12:16I don't know.
12:18I don't know exactly what he said.
12:20I know a little bit of what he said,
12:22but I don't know if I can cuss on the radio.
12:24He did say some cuss words.
12:26This is my house. I know he said that,
12:28but I don't know what he said.
12:30He was doing a lot of screaming,
12:32a lot of celebrating.
12:34Jeremiah will probably let you know
12:36in his podcast coming up.
12:38Come on.
12:40He said you better stay here, didn't he?
12:42He did, didn't he?
12:44I don't know.
12:46Let Steph tell the story, man.
12:48What a good teammate.
12:50Since you seem to remember
12:52recent conversations you've had with us,
12:54you also know that before we let you go,
12:56you were on the way out the door with the Big Finish.
12:58Are you ready to do that with us today?
13:00Yeah.
13:02Let's fire away, Grandy. Here we go.
13:04Big Finish time.
13:06Hi, my friend.
13:08You have two categories. You pick one.
13:10Do you want to play Splash Brothers
13:12or Looney Tunes?
13:14I'm going with Looney Tunes.
13:16What is your favorite genre
13:18of music?
13:20Hip-hop. Rap.
13:22Without a question.
13:24Give us a few artists, a few tracks, whatever.
13:26My favorite
13:28artists are...
13:30I'm going to go with Future,
13:32Jay-Z.
13:34Then I got some local rappers
13:36I like called Flight Gang.
13:38Uh-oh.
13:40And then I got...
13:42Who else do I like?
13:44I like Young Thug and I like Kodak Black.
13:46They're my guys right now.
13:48Are you excited about Kendrick Lamar in the Super Bowl this year?
13:50I am actually super excited
13:52about that. I'm excited to see what he'll do.
13:54I've been on the West Coast a long time.
13:56That's my favorite West Coast artist.
13:58So I'm excited.
14:00I know he's going to do something crazy. I'm waiting for the new album.
14:02I've been waiting a long time. He's got to feed the streets.
14:04Oh, Looney.
14:06I love that.
14:08No Tupac Lou, no judgment here.
14:10But listen, I got one for you.
14:12If you were a baseball player,
14:14what would be your walk-up song?
14:16Walk-up song if I was a
14:18baseball player?
14:20Uh...
14:22I would probably
14:24pick Future, Superhero.
14:26Okay.
14:28I like to feel like I'm something special
14:30when I'm walking up, even in the layup line.
14:32So you hear me before the game, I'm listening to all the hype music
14:34that get me going and get me hyped up.
14:36I feel like a beast when I'm going out there to rebound and stuff.
14:38Alright, I'm going to go next.
14:40I'm going to go off the board a little bit here.
14:42Off the board?
14:44No, no, no.
14:46Listen, Loon, the next question
14:48was supposed to be what song or mix
14:50gets you hyped to play in an NBA game?
14:52And he just answered that.
14:54So I'm going to go this way.
14:56Looney Tunes, that's the category.
14:58What's your favorite cartoon character?
15:00My favorite cartoon character?
15:02I got a lot.
15:04I'm a big cartoon guy, actually.
15:06I like anime.
15:08I like a lot of anime.
15:10I like to see a lot of fighting.
15:12I'm a Dragon Ball Z guy.
15:14I'm going to go with my man, Goku.
15:16Bugs Bunny was my guy.
15:18It was Looney Tunes, so I had to watch that growing up.
15:20And then another one,
15:22I'm going to go with Scooby-Doo.
15:24That was my guy.
15:26That was my after-school jam
15:28every day.
15:30Come on, why do you think that Shaggy
15:32was so confused all the time?
15:34I mean, I think he was
15:36indulging in stuff that
15:38people in the Bay Area
15:40seemed to love.
15:42Dude, he was cutting edge, because at the time
15:44that was frowned upon.
15:50Before you go, are you and
15:52Moody still doing yoga together?
15:54We are.
15:56Every game day, if y'all want to come join in
15:58and be a part of it, y'all can hit me up.
16:00I guess y'all can come get in the class.
16:02For those of us who aren't professional
16:04athletes, what does that mean?
16:06If we wanted to come join you,
16:08what do we need to do?
16:10Just stay
16:12on the side and don't interrupt.
16:18Just try to mimic me, just try to keep up.
16:20Just don't get in the way.
16:22You didn't ask me, but my favorite
16:24future song is March Madness.
16:26I don't think you can make a better record than that.
16:28It's a classic.
16:30March Madness, yeah.
16:32Hey, Loon, thanks
16:34so much. Thanks so much for jumping in
16:36on our party, man.
