‘Ofel’ intensifies into a typhoon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned the northern part of Luzon to brace for a new round of heavy rainfall and strong winds as Tropical Cyclone “Ofel” (international name: Usagi) intensified into a typhoon, threatening areas still recovering from previous storms.  PAGASA Weather Specialist Aldczar Aurelio said Ofel reached typhoon strength at 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The typhoon is now packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center and gusts reaching 150 kph. 02:56Heavy to intense rainfall in Batanes,

03:01Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Calinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao.

03:08Moderate to heavy rains in Ilocos Sur, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Aurora.

03:18On Friday, November 15,

03:22there is an expected heavy to intense rainfall

03:28in Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Cagayan, and Batanes.

03:35Moderate to heavy rains in Ilocos Sur and Abra.

03:40Because of this, we will continue to be careful

05:10at 2,210 kilometers east of Visayas.

05:16This storm is moving west-southwestward

05:19at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour.

05:26Here in the track and intensity forecast of Tropical Storm Manyi,

05:33you will notice that from now until the Philippine Area of Responsibility,

05:39the storm is expected to be strong and may reach the typhoon category.

05:46Based on this track, it is expected that on Thursday evening

05:56it will be inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
