00:05one championship last week. She also shared her insights on the victories of

00:22Islay Erika Bumagao made a strong first impression in her one championship

00:27debut this past weekend at One Friday Fights 86 at the Lumpini Stadium in

00:33Bangkok, Thailand. Early on, Bumagao's Japanese opponent Fu showed more

00:39aggression, but it was Bumagao's patience and precision that defined the big

00:44moments in the fight. After three action-packed rounds, the judges rendered

00:49their decision in favor of the 24-year-old Baguio City native.

00:58I was ready for her style. Of course, we studied her. We knew that she would be

01:05forward-forward. She would be more aggressive. And we knew that her

01:11footwork would just be forward-forward-forward. And so we devised

01:16our game plan to move around, to move in circles, and to land clean shots.

01:23This past weekend was a great showing for Filipino fighters. Besides Islay, MMA

01:29fighters Fritz Biagtan and Carlos Alvarez also took care of business in

01:34their respective bouts. Filipino-American striker Jackie Buntan also made history

01:39by capturing the inaugural one-woman strawweight kickboxing world title,

01:44something that Bumagao aims to replicate in the future.

01:49To think that the next card will be played by Jackie Buntan, who is really one of my idols.

01:56It's amazing. Yes, I aspire to be a world champion and one like her.

02:02But for now, rest and recovery is priority for the Pinay rising star.

02:07However, Bumagao said she's optimistic she could return to won championship
