00:09:41Evening coach. How you doing today? Good. How are you?
00:09:44Awesome. I'm gonna go ahead get go ahead and get started with questions Pat Friedman. We'll have our first question. Okay
00:09:50Yeah, before we do that Pat. Sorry to cut you off here
00:09:54I want to make sure we celebrate Veterans Day today all the all the veterans that it's so
00:10:00served our country over the years and
00:10:03Still do to this day the ones that protect our our country put themselves and their families at risk every day
00:10:13Just want to celebrate and honor those that have served our country so well over the years and really giving us our freedom
00:10:19So I just want to make sure we celebrate that. It's a great day to
00:10:24To do that here. So including coach smiley here just next door to me and
00:10:29His service that he's given to our country and now that he gives to the Buffalo Bills so
00:10:34Time is yours
00:10:37Good afternoon coach McDermott Pat Freeman from the Buffalo Criterion. How you doing today? Oh, well, how are you? I'm okay
00:10:44I my first question to you was how did you come out health wise you have an update with the health of the players?
00:10:50Yeah, here's what I can give you Keon Coleman will not play
00:10:54Reggie Gilliam and Amari Cooper are improving both are improving. We'll see how they do
00:11:01Dalton Kincaid has a knee as you guys
00:11:05Saw in the game. We'll see how he how he fares the next couple of days
00:11:10Spencer Brown has an ankle. He's sore. He did return as you as you saw
00:11:14We'll see how how that unfolds the next couple of days bail inspector as you guys know popped a calf last Friday
00:11:21He is on IR
00:11:23He is on IR and then Matt Milano will open up Matt's window started this week
00:11:29He will not play in the game, but we'll open up his practice window this week
00:11:34One other question for you coach
00:11:36I know pre snap penalties are are one of your pet peeves you had five in the first half eight in the game
00:11:44How do you handle those things as far as moving forward to get those cut down? Yeah, we have to
00:11:52You know, we absolutely have to and
00:11:57That's that's just the bottom. I don't have any better explanation or
00:12:03More indirect way to say it or direct way to say it in this case, but it is what it is
00:12:07We got to get a change. We can't keep beating ourselves like that and
00:12:10One other thing coach. Yeah, you did an excellent job
00:12:14As far as your coaching staff of making the adjustment against the run
00:12:19Jonathan Taylor had a I think a hundred and seven in the first but only seven in the second half. What did you guys do?
00:12:26To tighten up your run defense
00:12:28Well, I I think we had better discipline used better
00:12:33hands and defeating blocks and
00:12:36We're able to show up in our gaps with with the different runs that they were running in
00:12:41They had you know that big that big run in the first half
00:12:44So that accounted for a huge chunk of that of those yards in the first time
00:12:49All right. Thank you coach. Have a good week. Are you to Pat? Thanks?
00:12:54Hey Sean
00:12:56With Amari, we've seen him be out there on the practice fields limited capacity. We understand that's different than a game
00:13:02what is the next step that he needs to take to go from the limited practice capacity to
00:13:10Actually playing in games once again
00:13:13Yeah, you know if I if I if I if I knew
00:13:17you know, I think some it's pain pain pain tolerance and threshold and
00:13:22so we'll just see I don't know the medical terms that you're looking for there John and I
00:13:28Just get my cues from Nate and and we go from there
00:13:31You could say medical terms and I wouldn't even know if they were actually medical terms or not
00:13:35So I appreciate maybe I should have thrown a couple out there
00:13:38You
00:13:40Would have sold him pretty easily with Matt you already ruled him out here
00:13:45What is the progression you guys are looking at and the plan for him over the coming weeks for him to return to game action?
00:13:52Yeah, we're gonna we're gonna take it one week at a time here. We'll see how this week goes and
00:13:57You know really where we're at is
00:13:59You know, it's been a while since he's played played football here
00:14:03And he's done a phenomenal job with along with our trainers of getting back to now where he can get back out there
00:14:08and just
00:14:08really just take it one day in one week at a time and
00:14:11Those guys are gonna reassess towards the end of the week and see where he's at and then what what the next week
00:14:16May hold for him and then with just that group of Amari Reggie Spencer Dalton
00:14:23More short than long-term no IR discussions for any of them
00:14:27Don't don't believe so at this time
00:14:30Again, like we're gonna see how it unfolds as I said for all those guys
00:14:35Cool. Thanks, John
00:14:39Hey, John, how are you? Good? How are you? Good? Um
00:14:43Yesterday on the broadcast at one point and I don't know if you were doing it to Josh
00:14:48So you could correct me or say you don't know what I'm talking about
00:14:50but it looked like you kind of were like
00:14:52Motioning to somebody like kind of like just to breathe was that to Josh and I'm interested
00:14:59You know, we think of him so far down the line in his evolution and maturation
00:15:04How much do you at times still take it upon yourself for any of your players, but Josh in particular to kind of
00:15:12Remind them in the moment to breathe and just take it one play at a time
00:15:15Yeah, no, I was actually talking to myself there Matt
00:15:22I do that at home sometimes as well. Just talking about hey breathe right now
00:15:27I mean, it may have been Josh it may have been another player
00:15:31Just trying to keep them in the moment and you know that you have a good play you have a bad play and just to
00:15:36try and
00:15:37you know make sure that they're they're slowing their heartbeat down and and
00:15:42Taking it one play at a time and those guys do a great job of that led by Josh
00:15:46There's so much
00:15:48ebb and flow week by week in the NFL world community
00:15:52who's up who's down and you look at a Kansas City Chiefs team that has
00:15:57Re-envisioned what they are year after year and this year obviously undefeated finding ways to win
00:16:03When you go up against a team like this that's doing that a lot like you guys are finding ways to win week to week
00:16:09What are the challenges in preparing for a team that can do so many things even when they're not going, right?
00:16:16Right. I think it's it's two good teams
00:16:18number one and then
00:16:20when when you have their their history of winning it brings them to me about a
00:16:26Degree of poise and composure when they're in these
00:16:29You know situations that they've been in this year or even last year and through the playoffs, you know
00:16:34one of the things I was
00:16:37You know that we respect and I was impressed by as they went through the playoffs going here and then or coming here and then
00:16:44Going to Baltimore on both on the road
00:16:46Both in close games and they were very poised throughout. So it's it's certainly something that
00:16:52That comes with probably winning over the years and winning Super Bowls and
00:16:56then lastly on
00:16:58Dalton do you have the specific play where it happened?
00:17:01Was it on the play where he was a little bit of an overthrow and it looked like he came down on his knee?
00:17:05Yeah, I don't I don't
00:17:09Okay, thank you sure
00:17:13Hey Sean, I'm just wanted to follow up on Keon when we talked on Friday
00:17:17You said I are had been discussed but it didn't seem likely has that changed at all for Keon Coleman
00:17:23No, no Catherine. It's we still feel as far as I'm being told by the trainers. We still feel like
00:17:30He is improving. It's it's just not a not a situation where we expect him back this week
00:17:37Thanks. Sure
00:17:41Hey Sean John Morrow
00:17:44John
00:17:46Knowing this doesn't at all ease the past playoff losses against Kansas City
00:17:50But what do you hope to see out of your team going into this coming out of this weekend?
00:17:57Did you say going into or coming out coming in coming sorry coming out
00:18:02Coming out of this weekend. Well
00:18:04You know what? We're so focused on ourselves John and making sure we're growing week to week
00:18:09Certainly, you know have a ton of respect for the opponent
00:18:13Like I said, we try and do that every week and making sure we respect our opponent put in the proper time and and
00:18:19You know, those are the things that we can control as we go into this week here
00:18:24What of the fact that I mean this has become an annual?
00:18:28They're almost as if they're part of the division and the fact that you see them once if not twice a year
00:18:33What do you make of?
00:18:35What this stands for I guess just the casual viewer. We're gonna who's going to be tuned in on Sunday
00:18:43Yeah, another football game
00:18:45quite honestly two good teams
00:18:47Two well coached teams with really good quarterbacks and people like to watch really good quarterback
00:18:53Really cool really good quarterbacks play and play at a high level
00:18:56So I think it'll make for a good salad game and a high level of competition
00:19:02Fair enough. Thanks, Sean. Sure
00:19:07Hey Sean, thanks for taking the time this afternoon to talk to us. I appreciate it
00:19:11You know Josh had mentioned after the game yesterday that you look ahead to Kansas City, it's just a week 11 game
00:19:17It's another game and I know if you talk to most of the guys in your locker room
00:19:20that's how the approach is going to be but given the history of this matchup between you guys in Kansas City and
00:19:26What this matchup has met in the regular season in the playoffs?
00:19:29Is there an aspect to maybe that you hope maybe your players?
00:19:33Lean into to kind of get an edge for this kind of game or how do you want to see them?
00:19:37Just approach that this week
00:19:40Well, like you said our guys are so focused week to week on on what the challenge is for that week this week
00:19:46It's the Kansas City Chiefs
00:19:48And you know, we have a ton of respect for them
00:19:51And what's what's most important for us is that we have a good week of preparation
00:19:55quite honestly, and we focus on what we get we've got to do to improve and and
00:20:00You know, it starts with you know, as we've said as Pat asked earlier about the pre snap penalties
00:20:04That's one of the areas we've got to work on here
00:20:06And then one last thing for me Sean just with Mac
00:20:09We've talked so much a season about what he means that locker room Mac Collins and what he is as a teammate
00:20:15But to see him make some big plays and get rewarded for his consistent effort this year
00:20:19Just how good was that for you and your staff to see that pay off for him? Oh, yeah
00:20:24Mac gives great effort, you know, he's he's a he's a warrior and brings great energy to our team
00:20:31Whatever whatever role he's in special teams offense in this case specifically and what a heads you play, you know to get up
00:20:39Get out of bounds and save some time there and save the time out
00:20:45Thanks, I appreciate it sure
00:20:50Coach Mookie Hawkins were full sports and 80 great win this player yesterday. Thanks, buddy. Appreciate you
00:20:57Just care to assess, you know, just assess yesterday's victory
00:21:02Oh gritty win
00:21:05you know, we we played really good in some spots and not so well in others and
00:21:10It's a journey in the NFL week to week, right? Who's available? What can you do? What positions? Can you put them in and and
00:21:18you know scheme some things up for him and I thought Joe and Bobby and
00:21:22Matthew Smiley did a great job of that yesterday and their staffs as well. So
00:21:27We just take it one week at a time and keep trying to grow
00:21:31Absolutely coach and it is Veterans Day. So, you know, what does Veterans Day really symbolizes to you?
00:21:37Well freedom number one and freedom that
00:21:40Came out of cost right to all those who have served our country so well over the years and given their
00:21:45themselves their time their energy their their lives in a lot of cases for our country and our freedom and
00:21:52I don't take that for granted one bit. I'm certainly
00:21:55Grateful for it and grateful that we can grow up in a country like ours in the United States of America
00:22:02Absolutely coach one more if I can one veteran that served his energy in time with your program is Micah Hyde
00:22:08Is there a possibility that he may get a itch and come and you know reunite with you guys?
00:22:16That's it. That's a question for Brandon, you know, you know me I you know
00:22:20I'd love for Micah to be sitting right next to me right here. He's such such a good friend and
00:22:25He's meant so much to this organization over the years. So
00:22:29You know, that's that's a question more and more so for Brandon
00:22:33Absolutely coach. Hey, we in a class B final. So we back at your crib this Friday night versus South Park
00:22:39Congrats, man. Congrats great year. Thank you coach
00:22:43Hey, Sean, AJ Feldman here in Rochester. Thanks for taking some time
00:22:47You talked after the game yesterday about your leadership group kind of addressing, you know, the the trap game element of last week
00:22:56Moving ahead to this week. Your team has had the privilege of being in these
00:23:00You know game of the year type games a couple of times over the past years
00:23:04how do you hope that your leadership group when your team can kind of draw on that and
00:23:09Truly, you know treat it like any other week like I know you would like them to
00:23:14Right. No, I think that's important
00:23:16you know, you just take take the season one week at a time take them as they come in terms of the
00:23:21who we play and
00:23:23You know, like I said, just you know, we always have a great amount of respect. I believe for the opponent
00:23:28I think that's a great place to start every week and we expect
00:23:31what we expect from ourselves is to put in a lot of time in our preparation and
00:23:36Now usually when you do that
00:23:38You're giving yourself a chance and against a good football team like we're playing. That's what you got to do
00:23:43you got to give yourself a chance for your preparation and
00:23:46Make sure you're you have the right mindset going into the game
00:23:50You're now on a five-game winning streak after the couple of losses there your teams in the past have kind of had a knack for
00:23:57Bouncing back from a loss a losing streak with a stretch of wins
00:24:00What do you think has allowed this team to do that over the past month or so?
00:24:06Well two things I would say hey J one is the leadership component that you that you just asked me about it and two is
00:24:12Consistency
00:24:13You know just believe in being consistent with our process with our approach and making sure we get things
00:24:19Corrected where we need to get him corrected and we're not perfect, but just trying to continue to take things one day at a time
00:24:26All right. Thanks for your time. Sure thing
00:24:30Hey coach if you look at a point margin with both teams in the second half
00:24:35The Chiefs and the Bills are top five the bill set second in the NFL at plus 77
00:24:40Why is taking advantage of every single drive in the first half of this game?
00:24:46So important when facing a team that's really good in the second half
00:24:50Yeah, no a good point Mattie, you know, every drive is important. Every play is important against teams like this
00:24:57Really every week to be honest with you
00:24:59You saw plays yesterday that really were pivotal plays
00:25:03and swinging the game one way or the other and
00:25:07You just never know the play that's going to make the difference
00:25:09I mean the fumble and the kickoff return Alec Anderson goes into that
00:25:13Scrum if you will and comes out with the football and just plays like that that that make a huge difference in the outcomes of
00:25:20games
00:25:20And then what's the message to the team then?
00:25:23Just focusing on every time they're out on the field whether it's offense or defense making the most out of every single possession
00:25:30Well, it's to really play to our standard, you know, every play is looked at as hey
00:25:34did we play to our standard did we not and and the guys know what that is and
00:25:38They're the ones that drive that quite honestly, so
00:25:41That's that's the accountability that we share and with one another
00:25:45so I just think that you know when you go out there they try and they try and execute every play to the best their
00:25:50ability and
00:25:52You know, there's still there's there's a good defense and a good offense on the other sideline too. So any good special teams unit?
00:25:57So they make it hard. That's why the NFL is what it is
00:26:01Thanks coach
00:26:04Hey Sean, um, Joe has talked a lot about how he
00:26:08Wants player input on what plays he runs and likes to run plays that players advocate for or want to see out there
00:26:14What is your kind of view of that and have you kind of seen Joe evolve that into his play calling? I?
00:26:21Think having you know giving players ownership and input is important, you know seeing it through the eyes of the helmet
00:26:26They're the ones that are out there
00:26:28Trying to run, you know said play in this case
00:26:30So I think I think that dialogue that feedback from the players is important that buy-in
00:26:38that's that you want from the players to
00:26:41Want to run the play to want to hear that play called in the huddle
00:26:43And I think that's that's an important aspect of being a good coach
00:26:47And then just one thing I know you talked about Matt
00:26:49But just on the more maybe more personal level with everything he's been through with the injuries and all that to see him
00:26:55You know taking this step to coming back to practice just what's that like?
00:26:59Yeah, I mean you guys haven't been able to see Matt over the last I
00:27:04guess probably year and a half almost now a year and change after his injury last season, but
00:27:10You know, like I mentioned a few weeks ago Elena
00:27:13He's been back in the building more this year after this after this year's injury
00:27:17So it's a it's afforded him the opportunity to rehab here be around the guys
00:27:22Which I think mentally has been good for Matt, but also good for for our defense and for our team. He's such a leader
00:27:28I'll be at a little bit on the quieter side
00:27:30He's a great player
00:27:31so he's able to lead by example and influence people in the right ways for us here and that's been
00:27:36that's been great to see and great to have and now just super happy and excited for him to get back out there and start to
00:27:43Get get the flow get in the flow again of the game of football and that'll be good for him this week. I think
00:27:49Awesome, thank you. Sure. So we have today coach. Thanks. Thanks guys. Have a good week

00:44:46Hey Joe, how you doing today?
00:44:49Awesome, we're gonna go ahead and get started with questions. George Randy. We'll have our first question
00:45:02Yeah
00:45:04How you doing this afternoon coach? No, I don't but great question
00:45:08I had asked coach McDermott a few weeks ago about it
00:45:11He told me to refer it to you who came up with the theme that everybody eats
00:45:16Um, that's a great question, um
00:45:20I'm sure it probably hit my head one time. I've you know, I've used it in the past and whatnot, but
00:45:26just as you know, you put together this roster and this this team and you know
00:45:30a bunch of the parts that we have and just trying to buy into
00:45:33You know, you know a certain type of mindset and philosophy on offense and you know
00:45:37Just getting the guys to buy into one another kind of just stuck and you know, look
00:45:41You know look
00:45:42What it means, you know, it's it's a week-to-week thing and I think sometimes it gets blown on proportion of you know
00:45:47our intent of it, but um
00:45:50all I care about is the guys playing for one another not worrying about uh
00:45:53Individual success and only caring about finding ways to win football games
00:45:57Yeah, just wanted a few years that I continue to hear that theme throughout
00:46:00You're already 10 weeks in plus the training camp at st
00:46:03John fisher I heard it the first time out there
00:46:05And man, it seems like even guys now when they're doing their post-game interviews, they mentioned that everybody's themed
00:46:11So it's you can tell that it's been ingraded into them. Uh, that that's that's what it's all about. They haven't forgotten what this uh,
00:46:18whole season is about
00:46:21Yeah, yeah
00:46:23Wins are all that matter
00:46:26Absolutely, uh second question. What does mac collins mean to the team?
00:46:30especially when you make the play I caught the ball slid and had to
00:46:33Wherewithal to get up and run out of bounds step out of bounds to uh, save time, uh before that field goal before halftime
00:46:40Yeah, mac. I mean mac was mac was a huge signing for us in offseason. We kind of knew it
00:46:45You know his mindset the way that he goes about everything that he does his preparation
00:46:50You know his leadership. Um
00:46:52You know and uh, we've this locker room, you know this this offense this team
00:46:57kind of bought into who he is and allow him to be himself and
00:47:00Um, man, he does a great job preparing, you know, we go back to the tennessee game, you know
00:47:04Curtis goes down him taking over, you know, curtis's role you look at the end of the game when keon goes down
00:47:09Boom, we just switched into another position be able to take that over and you know yesterday having to play a lot of reps
00:47:14you know based upon how the game was going and mac's just always ready regardless of
00:47:18if he's tagged on the plays or not, you know, he's ready for the play if the opportunity comes and
00:47:24um, we have all the faith in him and um, I just love uh, love how he
00:47:28How he prepares how he plays and you know, he came up a lot of big plays yesterday that would
00:47:32Big product of us winning the football game
00:47:35Absolutely. Hey dad. I can see why you brought him on a very good veteran. Uh,
00:47:40Add-on for this season. Thank you for your time coach. Good luck this week against kc. I appreciate you
00:47:47Coach brady mookie arkans well for sports and eddie good win yesterday
00:47:52Thank you
00:47:53Just going to talk about you know, just getting curtis samuel involved
00:47:56It was you know good to see that he was able to uh, you know make some plays yesterday
00:48:01Yeah, you know, um, it was good good to get him out there, you know as always, you know, uh,
00:48:06You know, there was a lot a lot of moving parts in the game went
00:48:09Um both offensively and kind of how things were going defensively and whatnot
00:48:13um, i'm always going to want to get him more involved, but it was good to get you know, get the ball in his hands and
00:48:17um, you know and uh seeing him out there playing confidently and um, I felt uh, you know, uh
00:48:23I didn't feel any rust or anything like that from a guy that's you know
00:48:26been a little banged up and hasn't played and he went out there and
00:48:29You know did what we were asked to do and decided for him to continue to progress in this offense
00:48:33Absolutely, and on the offensive side how challenging could it be when you have a lot of moving parts and you know
00:48:39People don't you know realize how injuries play a lot, you know that goes into that
00:48:43Just the timing the continuity just the overall timing of the offense
00:48:48Yeah, you know, it's it's uh
00:48:50You know, it's it's the reality of it right you you know
00:48:52you you can't control it, but you can go into a game and a certain guy can have a set number of plays and
00:48:58um
00:48:59you know boom in the middle of a drive he goes out and
00:49:01You know, you're trying to you got to go through the whole call sheet of okay
00:49:04Is he just out for a drive? Is he out for the game? What does that mean?
00:49:07Hey, if we call it this who do we want here?
00:49:09you know, I wish I can say it's just a lot of times it might be a little easier than than said than you know, but
00:49:16You know you go back to the tennessee game losing curtis. There's
00:49:19You know yesterday, you know with dalton, you know, your your call sheet kind of looks like a uh,
00:49:23You know like a picasso painting at the end of the day
00:49:25There's a lot of a lot of markers and stuff all on it. Um, you know, but the guys that we got here
00:49:30um, there's a reason that they're on this team and
00:49:33um understanding that hey, I got to make sure I know not just my place, but I know
00:49:37you know just in case you know, um
00:49:40you know a guy goes down like dalton and
00:49:41That's why you have dalton and q and dalton's been doing this for so long that you know
00:49:45We link and him going there and make some big plays and I step up and uh, you know
00:49:50It's a product of the guys. We got in the locker room
00:49:52Some great quality debt pieces and coach. Uh ventures day, you know what it symbolizes to you
00:49:58you know, it's uh
00:50:00You know, it's uh, it's one of those things. It's like I feel like i'm not supposed to be working today. I'm just uh,
00:50:05i'm proud to be a part of this country and be able to uh, I understand uh,
00:50:09You know the people that have you know fought for us and fortunately the people who
00:50:14um are no longer with us, but um, i'm proud to obviously be an american and
00:50:18um, you know, I don't take that for our freedom for granted and i'm truly, uh, you know honored, uh,
00:50:24you know honor those guys that kind of came before us and
00:50:27um, you know, I don't feel right working necessarily, but it's a product of you know, our business and whatnot, but
00:50:32Um, i'm thankful for for everybody all the veterans and everybody in our military
00:50:37Appreciate your time coach. Great. Great. Uh, you know, good luck this week. Thank you
00:50:44Hi joe, how are you?
00:50:45How you doing?
00:50:47Good good
00:50:48so last, uh three weeks josh has four interceptions, but I think
00:50:53You could probably make the argument that your passing game has clicked as well as it has all all year in those games
00:50:59how do you kind of balance the two there that maybe josh has some throws he'd like back but
00:51:04Overall, it seems like the passing game is progressing
00:51:08yeah, I mean any any time you turn the ball over it's not what you want and you know,
00:51:12There's no matter if there's always going to be, you know throws throughout the game that he's going to want back. Um,
00:51:18even games that he might not have an interception there's throws he wants back and you know, um,
00:51:23You know, it's a it's a it's a fine line each week, right?
00:51:26you know, I want him to go out there and play confidently and understanding and
00:51:29you know, um, you know one of those plays the guy made an incredible play yesterday and
00:51:33um, you know, it's it's the reality of it in this but um,
00:51:37I feel like he's comfortable and you know, we're continuing to progress and especially with you know, each week
00:51:41It's you know, just a product of the nfl, right?
00:51:43You know guys are going in and out, you know and getting chemistry and trying to get a feel of kind of
00:51:48you know who's out there and what routes they're doing and
00:51:51um, you know, but he's he hasn't blinked and he's gone out there and
00:51:54You know, it's just played within the system and we have to continue doing that
00:51:58I think um early in the season. You're a little run heavy on first downs and over the last
00:52:04Maybe five weeks or so. You've kind of balanced it out a little bit
00:52:07What's gone into kind of making that that that switch a little bit there?
00:52:11I think there's every week, you know, I I don't go into the weeks saying hey we were this so I have to do this
00:52:18You know, it's a product of kind of who we have, you know on a week-to-week basis
00:52:23You know how we feel like we can attack the defense
00:52:25um
00:52:26you know some of it has some of it has to do with who the defense is but most of it is kind of
00:52:30Tell me what we have and how I think we can, you know
00:52:32Stay ahead of the chains and you know
00:52:34What puts us in the best position to have success and I think a run game in the past game kind of go hand in hand
00:52:38Sometimes when you're running the ball
00:52:39Well opens up the windows for the pass game when you're passing the ball
00:52:42well, you know forces teams to have to decide what they want to do from a coverage standpoint and so
00:52:46Um, you know, we're not i'm not striving to be like perfectly balanced
00:52:50um, and even when the run game's not working you have to stick with it, you know, because it eventually
00:52:54um, you know, you have to play two-dimensional or else, you know, it makes it really hard on
00:52:59on your quarterback and so, um
00:53:01you know, i'm pleased with how our guys are just whether it's pretty early being able to sustain it and
00:53:06Take some of those bloody three-yard runs and you know
00:53:08Eventually knowing that they might pop but if anything, you know
00:53:10it's keeping the defense honest and it opens up the pass game and vice versa and so
00:53:14Um nothing where it's like hey i'm doing all this. I have to go the different direction
00:53:18Um, you know, it's more of a week-to-week. Tell me who we got and when our guys in best position have success
00:53:24Uh the last few weeks you've kind of come out and got josh nearly throw
00:53:28Um on the first driver. So I think yesterday it was to curtis and he had the big one of dawson against seattle
00:53:36as good as he is how important is it to come out and get him into a rhythm because
00:53:41You know, it's instead of pressing when things kind of went sideways for a few minutes there yesterday. He
00:53:46Was still calm and you know, you were able to get through all that stuff
00:53:51Yeah, I think I think any quarterback, you know what you're all you can be a hall of famer you can be a rookie
00:53:56um, I think you always want to be able to
00:53:58um
00:53:58you know get in the rhythm and
00:54:00See the ball going to hoop and just feel you know
00:54:02same thing as a wide receiver you can catch a hitch on the first play and feel like you're going to be unstoppable and
00:54:06um, just getting that first catch that first run that first hit that first, you know completion out of the way is always
00:54:11You know, it's always critical whether it's the first player throughout the drive
00:54:14Um, I think it's always important
00:54:16You know, you you don't want to come off the field or come out of the first drive feeling like man
00:54:20I haven't got a completion and i've got hit a couple times and so
00:54:23um, it was good to get the first touch, uh
00:54:25And yesterday to curtis and you know
00:54:27Give us an opportunity to be able to kind of get going
00:54:29We obviously have to do a better job how you know on the second play and continuing from there
00:54:33But um, yeah, it's always important to get him in a rhythm
00:54:36Thanks
00:54:41Hey joe, um, you look at this kansas city chiefs defense and
00:54:46Obviously, they're so impressive, but then you deep dive into the numbers a little bit more
00:54:50They're number one in the nfl in rushing yards allowed on the road
00:54:55What makes them so good wherever they play?
00:54:58Obviously, they have a mentality that they want to try to stop the run
00:55:01But the players that they have the scheme spagnola what makes them so tough to uh prepare for when you want to get your run game
00:55:07going
00:55:08yeah, I mean
00:55:10It's hard to not kind of go into specifics, but like they've been the best defense in the nfl
00:55:15you know last couple years and
00:55:17um, you know, it's a credit to you know, you can see the the natural shift and you know
00:55:22um, how good of a job spags has done, you know kind of transforming the defense and getting into the
00:55:26the type of identity that they want to be and you know, they make you they make it tough on all three downs and
00:55:32You know whether it's run or pass, you know, they put a lot of stress on you
00:55:36And so, um, you know, it's hard kind of not getting the specifics, but it does a really good job
00:55:41um, you know, uh
00:55:43You know, you can he kind of makes it all look the same whether it's a pressure or not a pressure does a great job
00:55:47On disguises and these guys kind of fly around
00:55:49um, and they play confidently and I think when you watch any good defense on tape
00:55:53You can just watch it on a silent tape and you can tell that it's a good defense
00:55:56And so it's going to be a great opportunity for us this week
00:55:59um, you know in our house and our and uh, i'm excited for the opportunity
00:56:04You know, and we don't know dalton's status obviously day by day. Well, you'll see how he does in practice
00:56:10but
00:56:10It's pretty it's a luxury to have
00:56:13When your number one tight end goes down to have a guy the caliber of dawson knox made a big play
00:56:18Uh, I think it was the first 30 plus yard reception by tight end for the bills this season. What's it like having him?
00:56:25In the offense and what he potentially offers if dalton can't go. Yeah, I mean dawson is a number one tight end. Um, you know, and
00:56:32Um, it is unfortunate. I mean and he was a number one tight end before we got dalton kinkade
00:56:37You know just a product of sometimes
00:56:39You know spreading the ball around it's hard to it's hard to everybody get a lot of touches and targets
00:56:43But you know josh us, you know, we have a complete confidence in dawson and anything he has to do in the past game
00:56:49you know, we're fortunate of having multiple tight ends that can do a lot of those things but
00:56:53um, you know, uh dalton goes down yesterday and certain personnel groupings things had to change but
00:56:59um, you know, we have full confidence that also can do that and kind of share the load and not come out of the game because
00:57:04You know, he's done that for a lot of years here, um prior to you know, dalton getting here and um,
00:57:09It's a great leader great football player and um full confidence when he's in there that he's gonna be able to get the job done
00:57:14Thanks, joe. Appreciate it. Thanks
00:57:20Hey joe, how are you? Sorry, I didn't mean to catch you mid drinking
00:57:25um, I was curious so I asked josh if he had a
00:57:29Favorite play that he had advocated for that you decided to run and he mentioned one that was like during a game
00:57:36During a timeout he advocated for during the seahawks game
00:57:39What is kind of the communication between you and josh like in those timeouts in those short moments where maybe he wants to run a play?
00:57:45Like what is that like from your perspective?
00:57:47well, I think
00:57:49You know it starts it starts. It doesn't just happen on sunday
00:57:52It's the you know
00:57:53The constant communication throughout the week and making sure that we see things the same way the intent
00:57:58Hey, this is how they're going to try to attack us
00:58:00You know throughout the game, especially on timeouts or you know, if I have opportunities i'm, you know asking them
00:58:05Hey this or that hey i'm thinking this or you know on the sidelines kind of previewing some potential thoughts as we kind of go
00:58:11Um, but when your quarterback comes to the sideline and and he's like, hey, give me this i'm gonna make it work
00:58:16um, you know that there's there's ownership with it and
00:58:20When you have a guy like josh allen i'd rather go down with him
00:58:24Believing that he's gonna make a play work than me saying. Oh, no. No. No you I got this
00:58:28you know and
00:58:29um, you know if josh is doing that a lot of times throughout the game then more times than not it's going to work
00:58:34out and so uh
00:58:36Yeah, no, you go to see actually there's out there's plays yesterday where comes the sidelines like give me that play
00:58:40He's gonna make it work
00:58:41and if he doesn't
00:58:42It's it's not the end of the world. I'm gonna still trust him on the next one. And so
00:58:46Um, I believe in the ownership and more times than not he's gonna find a way
00:58:50I know this is like super detail specific. But what is the how does that get to you?
00:58:55I know maybe that's a basic question like is some he telling someone and that gets to you
00:58:59Is he getting on the headset in those instances and like having a conversation with you?
00:59:03Like how does that actual communication go? Well, I think fortunately, you know when I was a quarterback coach, you know
00:59:09it I know kind of
00:59:11um kind of his vibe and kind of when things are happening and through a timeout and you know coming on the sidelines, so
00:59:16um, there's a lot of times i'm
00:59:18You know, you know, uh as i'm communicating down to our ceas, you know anything josh any thoughts from josh, right?
00:59:25Hey, what's he thinking and there might be a timeout and he goes to the sideline
00:59:28He goes he tells rc. Hey, give me this, you know, I bring this up to joe or um, you know as much as
00:59:34As much communication as we can have being upstairs, you know to him the better
00:59:38Um, as long as he knows what i'm thinking
00:59:40Hey, I hey, I know you want this. Hey, just be ready for this as long as we're on the same page
00:59:44I'm gonna trust him all day every day
00:59:46For sure. Um, one other thing for me. I was curious asked a bunch of guys in the locker room
00:59:50Their favorite plays maybe they've advocated for do you have maybe not josh specific like a play that a player came to was like
00:59:58this season like oh i'd really love to run this and it worked that like stands out to you like
01:00:03This will advocate for it. If if not, it's okay
01:00:06But if there's like anything that comes to mind for you
01:00:09You know, it's it's tough. Um
01:00:13And I I don't you know, unfortunately one probably doesn't come to my mind, okay, um, but uh
01:00:19There's there's oftentimes throughout a game and you know fridays throughout the week that you know
01:00:25Guys would be like like I want this like no i'll i'll make this work
01:00:28give me this play and and i'm gonna do it and I know it sounds so elementary, but
01:00:32um
01:00:33You know, why would I not call those plays? Um, and uh, um, so throughout the games, you know, i'm halftime
01:00:40I'm going to offense line being like hey guys, this is what we're thinking. What do you guys think?
01:00:44You know, you guys are the ones that are actually approaching those blocks and feeling it. Hey, hey james, you know jimbo
01:00:48What do you what do you how you feeling? It's you know, i'm going across those guys
01:00:52I have a vision and a mind of hey how I think the game's being played and what I think but
01:00:55You know, they're out there actually having to go through it. And so
01:00:58Um, you know, I think as much as we can have the communication one play in particular might not necessarily stand out
01:01:04You know, it's in my head right now
01:01:05But uh, there's a lot of times that the guys are kind of bringing things up and i'm like, yeah, let's go for it
01:01:09Okay, one last thing for me. I was colo was very much
01:01:12So like i'll do whatever like I go with the flow like whatever they call for me
01:01:17I do to have a guy like that. That's like yeah, whatever like I just want
01:01:22Whatever successful like what is that kind of perspective like to have?
01:01:26someone who's playing at his level right now be like I want to play whatever whatever is called for me and like
01:01:30I don't really care that sort of mentality. Yeah, and and
01:01:34When your best players have that mentality
01:01:37um, it's hard for not it's hard for everybody to not have that mentality and knowing that hey
01:01:42Like the game's gonna come to me the opportunities are gonna come and i'm gonna be ready for them. And
01:01:46um, you know, sometimes you know, unfortunately when you're better players try to get them the ball as much as you can but
01:01:52um, you know defenses are trying to do the same thing trying to stop your best players and
01:01:56Um, as long as we have a bunch of guys that are don't are concerned with where they are in the progression
01:02:01you know when the opportunity is, you know, just making sure that when the opportunities come their way they make the most of it and
01:02:05um, you know, I I say it every week i'm gonna say it for the next 10 weeks the character of the locker room the
01:02:09offense that we have
01:02:11um, it allows me to
01:02:12um, we have a bunch of competitors don't get me wrong like it's not a
01:02:15Hey, i'm, okay with not getting the ball like everybody wants the ball, but they understand
01:02:19Hey, you know, whatever it takes to win. We're gonna find that way and when my opportunity comes i'm gonna make the most of it
01:02:24So, um, that's everything to me
01:02:26For sure. Thank you very much
01:02:30That's all we have today bill, thank you for your time
01:02:45You
01:03:15You
01:03:45You
01:04:15You
01:04:45You
01:05:15You
01:05:25You
01:05:28You
01:05:41Hello bobby, how you doing today?
01:05:44Great x I appreciate you using my name
01:05:47Always, you know, that was a one-time thing. Don't get it twisted
01:05:51We're gonna go ahead and get started with questions down world we'll have our first question
01:05:58Hey, bobby, john worrell. Hey, john. How are you?
01:06:01Good. How are you feeling knowing that you're bracing for your first test against patrick mahomes and the chiefs?
01:06:11Good i'm good. I'm good. It's just to us. It's just another game. It's just another game
01:06:16It's week 11. I believe it's week 11 can't even keep track of them, but it's the next game
01:06:22Which is the most important game?
01:06:24So
01:06:25How much do you go what makes it difficult though?
01:06:28um
01:06:29I mean every every offense is different what makes it
01:06:32What what makes it challenging to go up against some of homes one and andy reed coached offense?
01:06:38You know, I think coach reed does a tremendous job as a play caller
01:06:43and really getting
01:06:45you know
01:06:47Understanding how you're attacking them and then adjusting within a game
01:06:51and to what you're doing to them and
01:06:54um
01:06:55You know, obviously mahomes is he's patrick mahomes, you know, he's you know, one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game
01:07:02um
01:07:03But you know, it's a challenge every time we play him. So it's a challenge and you know
01:07:10obviously there's a reason that
01:07:13It's a challenge and with those two
01:07:17Specifically the tight end, you know
01:07:20Travis kelsey that's been there forever, you know them right now. They're a plug-and-play offense
01:07:25They're you know, they're down guys as well as everybody else in the league and they're still doing a great job
01:07:30So it's always a challenge playing them
01:07:32Um, you know, obviously i'm in a little different seat here now
01:07:35So I got a pretty good mentor upstairs who can help me with this
01:07:40Right, and i'm sure you're gonna lean on sean as well. But how far do your notes go back?
01:07:45Um when it comes to these guys, um and and having been in
01:07:51an assistant position
01:07:52How far do your notes go back in that sense in playing those guys and how much do you reflect back on those?
01:07:59Yeah, I think you know, I think they've done a pretty good job mixing it up on us
01:08:03You know each approach is a little bit different. Um
01:08:06You know, but yeah, you you want to pay attention to what?
01:08:09what
01:08:11Your guys are comfortable with first and foremost with us as a defense and then
01:08:15How they've attacked us in the past and what they've had success with
01:08:19Lastly for me and i'm sorry, um, but um, I know matt, uh coach
01:08:23McDermott announced that that matt milano is going to be cleared for practice
01:08:27He's not going to play this weekend. But what does that signify?
01:08:30How how encouraging is that to know you might be getting matt milano back, you know after the bye week at some point
01:08:38Yeah, I mean it's you know, it's a day-by-day thing for him
01:08:41He's been totally engaged in the team and what we're doing and you know matt's done a lot of great things for this organization
01:08:47Um, obviously I have a pretty close relationship with him
01:08:51i'm having coaching for two years and
01:08:54What i'm just excited he gets an opportunity to get back on the field. You know what I mean?
01:08:58Like it's been a long time
01:09:00coming
01:09:01and
01:09:02You know, you think all the way back to london last year and how bad you felt for him
01:09:06And then what happened in training camp this year and that extended period of time
01:09:10So i'm excited that he gets a chance to throw that helmet back on
01:09:13Um lace him up with his with his guys and and you know do what he loves to do
01:09:19Thanks, bobby. You got it
01:09:22Hey, bobby, I wanted to ask a similar question on matt milano
01:09:25Just what does it mean for you personally that you have that relationship with him and you're getting to see him take a big step
01:09:31like this
01:09:34That and i've talked about this before but that's you know
01:09:36You get to the personal side of this with guys and you see the grind that they go through and like
01:09:41The rehab the dauntless hours he spent in the training room
01:09:44Rehabbing his body in the weight room all those type of things and those are the things that a lot of people don't see
01:09:50you know, you're just waiting for the time that you know, a guy like matt comes back to play for the bills and and
01:09:55um
01:09:57Really proud of him and his attitude and the way he's attacked it and you know those type of things really proud of him. Um
01:10:05And i'm just happy he gets a chance to get back out on the grass
01:10:10Um, and then on a totally different note
01:10:12Jamarcus ingram has had just a really interesting journey to get to where he is
01:10:16Is there a part of that that most impresses you of everything he's overcome?
01:10:21Yeah, I mean it's everything
01:10:23Everything that jamarcus has overcome from I think he went to three schools
01:10:28Um was a walk on it
01:10:30You know, I think he started college as a walk-on and now where he's at. I think was it this week?
01:10:34He went out as a captain
01:10:36Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he went out as a captain this week, you know, you lose track of all that
01:10:41There's you know so many weeks, but you know, how cool is that?
01:10:46You know for a guy that went as a walk-on went to three different colleges went to ub went to our
01:10:53I think it was the local pro day tryout
01:10:56and
01:10:57Look at where he's at now. I mean
01:10:59For all the people all the kids out there
01:11:03You know anybody that might be dealing with a little adversity or maybe a rockier path to get to something
01:11:08You know
01:11:09all those
01:11:11Are signs that good things happen if you do it the right way
01:11:14and um
01:11:16You know just really proud of him. He comes in here very consistent smile on his face every day works his tail off
01:11:21Wants to be good. It's it's
01:11:23It's what's what's good in this world is what's good in this life
01:11:27You know, awesome. Thank you so much. Bobby. You got it
01:11:33Coach babbage. Mookie hawkins. What was first and a great win yesterday? Thanks. Mookie. I appreciate it
01:11:39Uh, just got to talk about what impressed you the most, you know
01:11:43Yesterday the way your defense went out and played and how consistent can it be going into this week?
01:11:48You know, I think they they you know, you use a great word there consistency and I use it all the time. Um,
01:11:54you know
01:11:56After the miami game we knew we didn't play the way that we
01:12:01normally play and really who we are and
01:12:03and uh, you know, I think they really it's a credit to those guys man, they continue to just go out and
01:12:10you know when maybe there's a question here a question there about them they go out and prove who they really are and
01:12:15and uh,
01:12:17You know, I I don't think a lot of people understand the team that we played were three and one at home
01:12:23And they had lost every game they had lost
01:12:25Was uh by one score less
01:12:28So that's a good football team. This is the nfl and and uh, you know, they went out we challenged them
01:12:34You know at the beginning of the week with a couple things and they answered the belt. So kudos to our guys man
01:12:39They're you know
01:12:41They they answer the bell
01:12:43Absolutely coach and dealing with this kansas city chief team, you know, they are very creative when it comes to aligning
01:12:49So how important will I discipline be you know versus this kansas city offense?
01:12:54Not only them every week every week mookie because they're in I mean this nfl
01:12:58That you're seeing now rewind 10 years ago. You're not seeing the things that you saw back then. You know what I mean?
01:13:03so
01:13:05I discipline is absolutely critical
01:13:08Generally if your eyes are in the right place and are seeing things the way they're supposed to be seen
01:13:14You're in good shape as soon as your eyes start going all over the place. That's when you tend to fail or you tend to
01:13:20um
01:13:22Have a not so good rep and you know, I discipline for us is a is a big thing
01:13:27We talk about keys I guess more than anybody, you know, um
01:13:31But uh, very very very important and every week, but yes, definitely this week kansas city
01:13:37Our important inventions day to you coach
01:13:41Means a lot to me, you know
01:13:42I've had a lot of family members that have served in the military and you know, we get to do what we do
01:13:48because of the people that protect this country and
01:13:51And uh what makes this country great so means a lot
01:13:55That's all up to you coach. Good luck this week. Thanks
01:14:03Hey bobby, how are you? Sorry, that's my uh dryer in the background
01:14:08Yeah, yeah, you know it's laundry day, you know, yeah got a grind that week, um big day so
01:14:16You look at jordan phillips coming back into the mix here have you ever been around a guy
01:14:21Like him, I mean he has the week that he has comes back goes out there and plays he gets
01:14:26He's waving his arms getting people hyped. He's screaming at zyre franklin on the
01:14:31Sideline he's posting on social media about it after the guy is a roller coaster ride of juice
01:14:38Have you have you ever been around a guy like this?
01:14:43He's a very unique human
01:14:45Ever since he first got here i've been like this this is a unique guy and and that's not a bad thing
01:14:51He he's extremely intelligent. He's very calculated in what he does
01:14:56um
01:14:58But he does bring a lot of energy and and juice in a positive way here
01:15:04um
01:15:05You look back. I think jordan was that he got he ended up here because he got released by the dolphins maybe
01:15:10Uh way back originally. Yep. Yeah, and and what might not be right for other people might be right for us
01:15:16um, and I think we've talked about that in our environment of
01:15:20I think our players have talked about it of where guys can be themselves as long as it's the right version of themselves
01:15:25And sean and brandon have been great about setting that culture and really identifying
01:15:33What positive traits that
01:15:37whoever can bring to this organization and certainly jordan's energy and juice
01:15:43Charisma, if you will
01:15:44You know, I believe does that for us
01:15:47Then you look at this kansas city chiefs team this week. Uh
01:15:51And what they've done this season to get to nine, you know offensively
01:15:55You know patrick mahomes they've dealt with kind of like you guys have a bunch of pieces that they were counting on
01:16:00Missing a big chunk of time here this season when you get them up on tape
01:16:04And I know you just started preparing for them what stands out about how they've still been able to kind of operate and win games
01:16:12Uh leaning on their defense, but their offense as well. What have you seen on tape?
01:16:15Yeah, I think they I think coach reid just has a standard, you know, I think it starts with coach reid with a standard there
01:16:22They're obviously well versed in what they do
01:16:25You know, i'd say similarly to us here defensively, you know, we've been running the same, you know
01:16:31Very similar same scheme with tweaks here and there
01:16:34for the same amount of years and there's a standard to the way we do things and
01:16:38and
01:16:39The guys know what that is and they know what it's supposed to look like and I believe that's the same thing there
01:16:43obviously they have a
01:16:45Great leader conductor of the offense and the quarterback
01:16:49um
01:16:49and then they have their pieces that are still
01:16:53You know, uh mainstays in there and and and I think the sign of a good team is when you can plug and play based
01:16:59off availability
01:17:00um
01:17:01And and not miss a beat, you know and still be able to adapt a little bit. That's sign of a good football team
01:17:08And you mentioned your one last one. Sorry quickly. You mentioned your close relationship with matt
01:17:13As he's been kind of ramping up here and this moment has been
01:17:17Uh on the horizon of opening the practice window letting him get back out there
01:17:21What's it been like just as a friend just seeing him go through this?
01:17:26I mean i'd say the same thing like, you know
01:17:31It's really hard it was
01:17:33When what happened to him, I think it was in training camp
01:17:37When what happened to him in training camp as long ago as it was
01:17:40It was hard it was hard and not because
01:17:43Guys get hurt like that's what the nfl is. It's a it's a league of attrition. It's a league of availability
01:17:49And you know, it's part of the game. It's a violent physical game
01:17:53and
01:17:54You know, but to see him have to go through that again
01:17:58um
01:17:59It's tough it was tough because
01:18:02Do you guys know matt matt works harder than anybody? He's more
01:18:06um
01:18:07um
01:18:08you know
01:18:10Intentional he's more engaged. He's more, you know about just being a reason why the buffalo bills win than anybody
01:18:17You know or as much as anybody I should say and and uh, you know
01:18:21It's tough to see a guy go through what he went through
01:18:24um coming off the long rehab after last year and then
01:18:27you know
01:18:28What happened to him in training camp? It was tough. It was tough, but you know quickly switch our mindset
01:18:33That's part of what I do is to a matt. We're gonna attack this thing and get you back sooner and later
01:18:37So i'm glad we're where we're at. It'll be really fun to see 58 out there again, and uh, you know
01:18:44See how he looks. Thanks bobby. Appreciate you
01:18:51Hi bobby, how are you?
01:18:53I'm, great. How are you?
01:18:55Good. Thanks
01:18:57So yesterday with with terrence interception, he he mentioned that it was a play that he had seen before
01:19:03What he obviously peeled off his what his assignment was but what what was his original one was he
01:19:08Was he getting the crosser?
01:19:11That that's not necessarily the truth. He might have just been playing his technique a little bit better
01:19:17Okay
01:19:18Okay. Um, what?
01:19:21What what was the what was the job at a high level i'll say on that play he did his job at a high level
01:19:28What was the chess match like with with flat go yesterday obviously he's seen just about everything you can see
01:19:34um
01:19:35And it seemed like you guys were able to change the picture post snap a few times and and got him
01:19:41yeah, you know, I
01:19:43you know it with them it was
01:19:47Shane steichen does a really good job. Their offensive staff does a really good job and they have some weapons, you know, uh,
01:19:52I know pitman was out
01:19:54but
01:19:55You talk about the pierce kid the rookie, uh, the tight ends are good
01:19:59It's a good tight end unit and then obviously 28 is one of the best so
01:20:04you know
01:20:05There definitely was a chess match speed chess match piece to it. Um,
01:20:11you know, but it was
01:20:13we knew how we
01:20:15Wanted to present things to them
01:20:17We had to find the right spots to present those things and we still had to take care of 28 in the run game. So
01:20:22Um, there was a lot that they do a really nice job
01:20:26Um on tape, they're very explosive. They were very explosive
01:20:30um
01:20:31So it was you know, it was a it was a task and the guys did a great job executing
01:20:38When they crossed the 50 what what changes for you as a play caller because I think a big part of of your success was
01:20:47They were a little more successful on first down
01:20:49On their side of the 50 than they were on on yours
01:20:53Yeah, it just depends on the team you're playing
01:20:55It just depends on the team you're playing and how they attack and how you want to attack what they do
01:20:59You know defense is reactionary. So you got to have a sense of what they want to do and then
01:21:05You got to be able to combat that you have to in the event. Nothing's 100% in this league
01:21:09So you got to be sound both burst the run and burst the pass what type of pass what type of run?
01:21:15Um, and that's a challenge, you know against a good offense which they are and and um, you know
01:21:21Credit to our guys, you know, i'll take your word for it on minus 50 verse plus 50
01:21:28How
01:21:29With with mahomes coming up. How do you balance trying to change the picture on him post?
01:21:35Snap with him being able to extend plays until he gets the picture he wants
01:21:39Yeah, I think I think we have to
01:21:42We know there's a certain, you know formula versus him that that we have to make sure we take care of
01:21:47But in the end we can't trick ourselves
01:21:49We can't trick ourselves and we got to be able to execute our defense execute at a high level
01:21:54Understand that he's patrick bones. It's kansas city offense. They're going to make some plays here and there
01:21:59We got to try to limit them
01:22:00And try to win the situational football type things
01:22:04How how would you define trick yourself?
01:22:07Tricking yourself is trying to be too cute or trying to do too much
01:22:13All right, thank you you got it
01:22:18Hi coach, how are you? Congratulations on a win yesterday. Thanks. I appreciate you man. Um
01:22:23Vaughn didn't show up on the stat sheet necessarily at one quarterback's hit but for my eyes
01:22:28He made an impact on the game. What did you see from his performance yesterday?
01:22:32Did you see austin johnson interception? Yes, absolutely. Did you see who affected the quarterback on that play?
01:22:39That's exactly there. Yeah, and there's a lot of things like that that
01:22:43You know statistically won't go into the stats, but to us that's a stat, you know, and and um, we'll celebrate that and uh,
01:22:51You know just continue to get him back in his groove and and he did he affected the game, you know
01:22:56I thought he adjusted as the game went along did a nice job there
01:22:59Mixed up his rushes and showed up in the run game, you know, and and uh, maybe he didn't make the tackle, but he caused
01:23:06you know, he caused
01:23:08Something to happen that somebody else made the tackle. So, um, you know, he's just got to continue
01:23:14you know getting back in the fold and and uh, he's got to continue to to be the Vaughn Miller that we need him to be
01:23:20Last year, I think in the playoff game
01:23:22They ran a lot of three tight ends against you guys and they went bigger
01:23:25They ran a lot of three tight ends against you guys and they went bigger
01:23:27They went heavier and you guys have to adjust and Taron's amazing at what he does
01:23:31But he's a nickel corner and how do you as a defensive mind have to work through that throughout the week?
01:23:36You never want to take Taron off the field
01:23:38Of course not he's great at what he does, but you know teams are going to try and play that game with you
01:23:42Right very carefully. Yeah, very carefully. We just gotta we gotta do what's right for us. Um,
01:23:48You know in that game and we'll see where that takes us on sunday
01:23:53Uh real quick i'm vaughn again, um
01:23:55You you want to make sure that he's good throughout the season
01:23:58But he also so you want to limit his snaps maybe throughout a game you want to do
01:24:02I'd call it but he also do a rhythm. So how do you balance that as a defensive coordinator in a position?
01:24:07yeah, I think I think that's
01:24:10You know, there's a lot of discussion with what can help get him in a rhythm and and um,
01:24:15You know those type of things it is it's it's a challenge because you don't want to put too much on him
01:24:20Um, but at the same time you want to be ready to go to affect the game, you know in an ideal world
01:24:25You can just put him out there and he gets a sack every time, you know, but that's not reality
01:24:29So we just got to find that week to week find out where he's at find out how he's feeling
01:24:36Get them in the situations that we we want to get vaughn on the field
01:24:40and uh
01:24:42You know and just make sure that we're continually
01:24:46Revisiting that process and making sure he's ready to go. Thanks a lot for your time today. You got it, son. Okay
01:24:52Hey, bobby in the second half of the game
01:24:55You guys just allowed seven rushing yards to jonathan taylor, which is such a small number for a great running back like him
01:25:01What was the difference from the first half to the second half?
01:25:04you know, um
01:25:08I think it goes back a little bit. Um
01:25:13Goes back a little bit
01:25:15To what we talked about in miami. He had the he had the two runs there
01:25:19I believe in the first half it was like a 58 which
01:25:23I would like that call back a little bit. Yes, I would
01:25:27um
01:25:28But also, you know, there's some things fundamentally that we can do better there to limit that
01:25:33There's no way that should go for 58 yards. Um
01:25:36And then the 20 yarder a little bit of a gap integrity issue
01:25:39So, you know just a little bit of what we went back to miami knocked that out
01:25:44We go out we talk about it in the second half
01:25:46We make it a little bit of an adjustment a few here and there but nothing crazy
01:25:51And our guys I think really had a feel for kind of the way they were trying to attack us
01:25:56and those type of things and
01:25:58You know, he I won't take I mean he he is a great back and the colts do a good job getting him
01:26:04You know involved in certain ways and and uh, you know, I think it's a everything we do is a collaborative effort
01:26:10Thanks, bobby. You got it maddie
01:26:14That's all we have today bobby. Thank you for your time. Thanks x appreciate you, buddy
