00:00Despite the various challenges facing the country, the Philippine economy continued to grow in the first half of 2024.
00:10For more information on this, let's go to the center of the news, Noel Talacay Live.
00:17Now, the gross domestic product or the economy of the country has grown by 5.2% in the third quarter of 2024.
00:27According to the Philippine Statistic Authority or PSA.
00:33In a press conference earlier this morning, PSA said that some sectors that can contribute to the growth of the country's economy are
00:42wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, financial and insurance activities, and construction.
00:52But if we compare it to the previous year in the same quarter, it slowed down by 0.8% because of the 6% GDP of 2023.
01:03According to the National Economic and Development Authority or NEDA, this is because the production of agriculture in the country
01:10decreased due to the calamity of Habagat and El Niño.
01:13The same is true for the production of fishing because of the fishing ban in Cavite and Bataan,
01:19which reached 29 days after the oil spill and the bad weather.
01:25Livestock production in the country also decreased due to the outbreak of African Swine Fever.
01:33Meanwhile, we strongly support the passage of the Conectadong Pinoy Bill
01:39to address the digital divide and support growth in the IT, BPM, and digital technology sector.
01:47Likewise, we will continue pushing for the passage of structural reforms included in the government's Common Legislative Agenda.
01:57These reforms aim to improve the economic efficiency, governance, and regulation of critical sectors.
02:06And the third, the Marcos administration remains steadfast in its goal of genuine social and economic transformation,
02:12leading our nation closer to a realizing a matatag, maginhawa, and panatag na buhay for all Filipinos.
02:42Noel, has NEDA mentioned a possible effect on the economy of US President-elect Donald Trump's victory?
03:12Thank you Noel Talacay.
