00:00Surrounded by a rising tide of tributes, a grieving family is overcome, struggling to
00:08grasp the loss of their son and brother, Jack Davey.
00:12This is how they want him remembered, full of joy, ready for another day of school with
00:16his mates.
00:17But yesterday, that was all cut short.
00:20Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathy are with Jack's family and friends, and our thoughts
00:24are also with the four students who remain in hospital.
00:27Such a sweet boy, really kind, never heard a bad thing about him.
00:33Just an hour before the bell was to ring, a car performing a U-turn outside Auburn South
00:38Primary in Melbourne's eastern suburbs ploughed through the school's fence, fatally striking
00:43Jack and seriously injuring four of his classmates.
00:49This morning, family members, friends and the school community gathered at the scene,
00:53receiving tributes and holding their loved ones closer, all trying to make sense of
00:58the tragedy.
00:59It's the worst nightmare for parents and families and siblings and the school community that
01:03you could possibly imagine.
01:06Jack Davey is being remembered as a natural athlete whose talent shone brightly.
01:11In July, he was a member of the Australian Under-12s futsal team, which clinched victory
01:16in Fiji.
01:17The sport's peak body today paid tribute to a sweet boy always in their hearts.
01:22The 11-year-old was also a gifted Aussie Rules footballer, known for being calm under pressure
01:28and a tough all-rounder with a bright future.
01:31His local club, the Glen Iris Gladiators, devastated by his loss.
01:34But for Jack Davey's schoolmates, there are some questions their parents just can't answer.
01:39They're asking me why, where is boy gone, when he will be back, where is that four kids,
01:45when they will be back, what I can say, you know?
01:49The driver, a 40-year-old woman from Hawthorne East, was arrested and interviewed but has
01:53since been released.
01:55The surviving children remain in hospital in a stable condition as the local community
02:00rallies around.
02:02This school community is so wonderful and strong and together we will get through this.
02:07I've got little kids, I can only imagine what it was like to drop Jack off to school and
02:13not pick him up.
02:15A thought that many will struggle with.
