00:00The controversial war on drugs that was implemented by the previous administration joined the Senate's hearing.

00:05Because of that, the discussion of the due process and other issues has been resumed.

00:10That is what Professor Antonio Contreras will talk about in Punto de Vista, Professor.

00:23One of the circles of democracy is the due process.

00:26What does the due process mean?

00:28That before you are sentenced, if you are injured,

00:31you should first go through the process of giving yourself a chance to defend yourself.

00:37And in the current law, we do not have a death penalty.

00:40In other words, even if you are convicted of a crime, you will not be sentenced to death.

00:46This due process and the absence of a death penalty

00:50are two major mistakes and violations of the war on drugs implemented by the former President Duterte.

00:57Because it is clear that he admitted that there was a murder.

01:01It is clear that this is what he said.

01:04And in fact, he even admitted that sometimes he taught his policemen

01:09to give a gun or to fight a prisoner to have a reason to kill them.

01:20This is not right.

01:22No matter how serious a person's crime is,

01:26they should be given a chance to defend themselves.

01:31And it is also not right that just because they are suspected,

01:37they will be set up to fight and kill.

01:42We are, I repeat, a country,

01:46a society that is governed by the law.

01:50We are not capricious people.

01:52We are not biases.

01:55Now, it is clear that the former President Duterte admitted his responsibility.

02:00Maybe it is time for the Department of Justice to take the right step

02:05and prepare the cases that will be filed.

02:08Because that is what our President said.

02:11He will file a case.

02:13It is easy to give that.

02:15Because we are a country governed by the law.

02:21We are not humans.

02:22We are a government of laws.

02:25And not of men.
