00:15Dayan, today is the first day of the International Conference on Women, Peace and Security
00:20where almost 700 delegates are gathered
00:24of foreign ministers and members of the peacemaking organizations
00:28here in the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay, Seti.
00:33Forging collaboration and convergence for advancing women, peace and security is the theme of the occasion.
00:38First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos led the opening of the International Conference on Women, Peace and Security or ICWPS.
00:47I'm delighted to join our government officials in welcoming the delegates of the International Conference of Women, Peace and Security to the Philippines.
01:00Since this summit is about women, my husband, Ferdinand Marcos, asked me to personally convey our welcome
01:10and to let you know that the Philippines is honored to host a conference of this significance and stature.
01:18Let's give a big round of applause to all the women, to welcome our women and also our men to our beautiful country.
01:26Once again, welcome to the Philippines.
01:29United Nations Secretary General Amina Mohammed was also present at the conference.
01:33The world is facing unprecedented challenges and though we may not know how to tackle them all,
01:39there is one thing we know for certain, it is imperative that women are at the core of our solutions.
01:46The Philippines appointment of the world's first woman chief negotiator for a major peace agreement
01:52is setting an example by ensuring that one-third of the people at the peace table were women,
01:57which is the minimum target that we have set ourselves in the United Nations.
02:02Some government officials spoke, including the Department of Budget Management Secretary Amena Pangandaman,
02:08Presidential Advisor on the Peace Process Carlito Galvez Jr., and Department of Foreign Affairs,
02:16in the exclusive interview of PTV.
02:18Some international delegates shared their advocacies that they wanted to share in the three-day conference.
02:26In Bulgaria, we established the Bulgarian Armed Forces Women's Association
02:30that could support the victims of every type of violence that they could face.
02:35So this is very important at the same time because their voices could be heard.
02:39At the same time, cooperation is very important.
02:43So the conference here is such a great example of cooperation and collaboration.
02:48Ministral or high-level segments are working to serve as a platform for government stakeholders
02:55to study and examine the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda
03:00of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.
03:03Some global issues were discussed here, such as the role of women in peace negotiations,
03:09women's right and family welfare, and enforcement of police to stop sexual violence.
03:15There were also action plans and other strategies for women's safety and security.
03:21After the sessions, there will be a PASAY declaration.
03:25This is a collective effort by the countries to strengthen the support for women's rights
03:31and gender equality worldwide, and to unite women in the conflict resolution and peace-building process.
03:38The conference will continue until Wednesday.
03:42Back to you, Dayan.
03:43Thank you very much, Bell Custodio.
