00:00First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos has opened the first-ever International Conference on Women, Peace and Security in the Philippines
00:09that has a theme of Forging Collaboration and Convergence for Advancing Women, Peace and Security.

00:23Princess, the first-ever International Conference on Women, Peace and Security is currently being held
00:29where almost 700 delegates are united,
00:32formed by foreign ministers and several members of peacemaking organizations
00:37here at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
00:43The International Conference on Women, Peace and Security or ICWPS
00:48which is institutionalized as the Women, Peace and Security Agenda
00:52is through giving voice to women and introducing them to participation in peace and security.
01:00The theme of the occasion is Forging Collaboration and Convergence for Advancing Women, Peace and Security.
01:06That's why foreign ministers and international delegates are gathering in Kasapi
01:12from peacemaking organizations from almost 80 countries.
01:16For this activity, there will be two ministral or high-level segments.
01:21The first will discuss how to enhance partnership between states to build sustainable,
01:26gender-responsive peace and security.
01:29The second will discuss security strategies and other practical measures.
01:36After that, there will be a general discussion with international organizations and civil society organizations.
01:43The aim of the high-level segment is to create a platform for government stakeholders
01:49to study and implement the Women, Peace and Security Agenda
01:53of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.
01:58There will be a Pasay declaration at the end of the session.
02:02First Lady Lisa Araneta Marcos opened the ICWPS
02:07which was initiated by United Nations Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.
02:13Some government officials also spoke.
02:16They are the Department of Budget Management Secretary Amena Pangandaman,
02:20Presidential Advisor on the Peace Process Carlito Galvez Jr.,
02:24and Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo as keynote speaker.
02:29Delighted to join our government officials in welcoming the delegates
02:35of the International Conference of Women, Peace and Security to the Philippines.
02:42Since this summit is about women,
02:45my husband, Ferdinand Marcos, asked me to personally convey our welcome
02:52and to let you know that the Philippines is honored
02:56to host a conference of this significance and stature.
03:00Let's give a big round of applause to all the women
03:03to welcome our women and also our men to our beautiful country.
03:09Once again, welcome to the Philippines.
03:11The world is facing unprecedented challenges
03:14and though we may not know how to tackle them all,
03:17there is one thing we know for certain.
03:19It is imperative that women are at the core of our solutions.
03:24The Philippines appointment of the world's first woman chief negotiator
03:28for a major peace agreement,
03:30setting an example by ensuring that one-third of the people at the peace table were women,
03:35which is the minimum target that we have set ourselves in the United Nations.
03:40Princess, the High-Level Panel is currently being held
03:44and later this afternoon, we are expected to get an interview
03:48with some foreign ministers to discuss their involvement
03:53in the peace-making process in their countries.
03:56The conference will last from today until Wednesday.
