00:00History, tonight, the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA game.
00:07Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the NBA records that will stand the test of time.
00:14A long three as Curry holds the record.
00:24Free throws may look easy given that they're taken when play and game time has been stopped,
00:29but they are difficult to execute well.
00:44To be considered a good free throw shooter, a player should make at least 80% of them.
00:49In the 2008-2009 season, Jose Calderon had a wild free throw percentage of 98.05%.
00:59Incredibly, he only missed three free throws out of 154 attempts.
01:09The closest percentages achieved since 1946 vary between 93 and 95%.
01:15Basically, for someone to surpass Calderon, they would have to pretty much hit everything.
01:21Does it bother you to talk about it?
01:22No, I don't think about it. I just shoot free throws. I gotta make it. That's my job, so...
01:29Even though he's been out of the league since 1973, the man still holds a bunch of records.
01:35When we say he was a dominating player in the NBA, we mean he was dominating.
01:40One area of the game where he was a force to be reckoned with was rebounding.
01:44In the 1960-61 season, he recorded a total of 2,149 rebounds,
01:50and in that same season, he also averaged 27.2 rebounds a game.
01:54Also another unbreakable record.
01:56The only other person to come close to him was Bill Russell with 1,930 rebounds in the 1963-64 season.
02:09In the 1995-96 NBA season, the Chicago Bulls did the impossible by winning 72 games,
02:15meaning they lost only 10 times that season.
02:20Yes!
02:21Michael Jordan has just been outstanding ever since Kiffin and Rodman went out of the lineup.
02:27Michael has picked it up, playing with a great deal of confidence.
02:3020 years later for the 2015-16 NBA season,
02:34the Golden State Warriors would improve on that record by a single game,
02:38finishing the season with 73 wins and 9 losses.
02:41It's official number 73.
02:45The greatest regular season in NBA history now belongs to the 2016 Golden State Warriors.
02:52Just reaching 70 wins is a Herculean task,
02:54as the previously mentioned teams are the only two to ever do it in the history of the NBA.
02:59Even 69 wins in a season has only happened twice so far,
03:03so to get to 74 wins, you would have to have one of the greatest NBA teams ever assembled.
03:08What kind of character has been required from your guys in the pursuit of this historic mark?
03:14I mean, that's everything for us.
03:16We have so many guys that sacrifice, everybody has a role in the team,
03:21and they come in every night with that focus.
03:24Number 7. Consecutive regular season games played.
03:27A.C. Green
03:28There's a reason why Green is called the Ironman.
03:31His record of 1,192 consecutive regular season games played is nothing short of spectacular.
03:38You went from November 19th, 1986 to April 18th, 2001,
03:45and you only missed three games in that 15-year span.
03:50I almost find that impossible.
03:52He played 16 seasons in the NBA, and during that time, he only missed three regular season games,
03:58and that was in his second season.
04:00Again, that's that perseverance that you talk about and that will, determination to play,
04:05but just tell me, how was it playing through?
04:07Because I know you didn't play 1,192 games healthy.
04:11There were some games that you played where you weren't healthy at all,
04:14and you still were able to push through it. Tell us a little bit about that.
04:17To eclipse this record, not only do you need to have career longevity and avoid injury during that time,
04:23you also need to be productive enough to be in your team's rotation.
04:27And you never once said, you know what, I'm tired, I just need time.
04:30Because I know we're going to go deep into the playoffs.
04:32Well, the thing about it, Phil Jackson nor Coach Roddy would ever listen to me.
04:35So, that was the thing about it.
04:37The current active streak is held by Mikel Bridges, but he's only six seasons in
04:41and has a long way to go to beat out Green.
04:47Scoring is obviously an important part of basketball.
04:50It's how you win the game, after all.
04:52Just as important is getting the ball to those who score,
04:55and the best at dishing out those assists is John Stockton.
05:03Over his career, he amassed a whopping 15,806 dimes.
05:07He played nearly 20 seasons in the NBA,
05:10and in many of those seasons, he played a full 82 games.
05:14Stockton, who's one of the league's most durable players,
05:17rarely missing a game in his 19 seasons.
05:20Never use excuses, you know.
05:22I've seen him, you know, with a little nagging injury here, a little nagging injury there,
05:27and right at game time, I say, are you ready to go? Yep.
05:29It's gonna take a lot to surpass his accomplishment.
05:31The closest is Jason Kidd with 12,091 assists,
05:35and the closest active player is Chris Paul sitting just below Kidd with just under 12,000.
05:40Oh, great behind the back pass, and Capella finishes it off.
05:45What a play!
05:51Several NBA players have played 20 or more seasons in the league,
05:55but none of them have played more regular season games than Robert Parrish,
05:59who's been in an astounding 1,611 games.
06:13The next closest is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 1,560 games.
06:18Not only would you need to be in the NBA for at least 20 seasons,
06:22you'd have to play a significant amount of those games for each season,
06:25which can be tricky, especially as players reach 40 years of age.
06:37For Parrish, during his career, he played at least 70 games a season,
06:41except for his last where he was in only 43 games.
06:46Career three-pointers.
06:48Stephen Curry.
06:49Arguably the best shooter of all time,
06:51nothing hits quite like watching Curry sink a deep three.
07:08It's almost unfair how he's able to make seemingly impossible shots.
07:12His current proclivity has made him the current record holder of made three-pointers
07:16since December 14th, 2021, when he passed Ray Allen.
07:31Curry is still active in the NBA,
07:34so it's unknown where exactly the final numbers will stand when everything is all said and done.
07:38For anyone to pass this record,
07:40they're gonna have to start putting up threes early and have a long career.
07:58When Kareem Abdul-Jabbar retired in 1989,
08:01he finished with 38,387 career points.
08:09At the time, it seemed like an insurmountable feat,
08:14as a person would need to not only be a scoring machine,
08:17but also have a lengthy career.
08:19It just so happened that such a player came to pass
08:21when LeBron James was able to surpass Abdul-Jabbar on February 8th, 2023.
08:35James is still active in the league
08:37and has scored over 40,000 points
08:39and in this late stage of his career, continues to put up impressive numbers.
08:43Essentially, it's gonna take another LeBron James to unseat this record.
08:48LeBron, you are the NBA's all-time scoring leader.
08:54Congratulations!
09:06Chamberlain is one of the greatest to ever play the game.
09:09Standing at 7 feet 1 inch tall,
09:11he was just an absolute marvel and dominated the NBA.
09:15He had erupted onto the scene in 1959,
09:17winning Rookie of the Year and MVP honors in the same season.
09:21In fact, it was only in his third season
09:23when he scored 100 points in a single game on March 2nd, 1962.
09:28Unfortunately, no video footage of the game exists,
09:32as the NBA wasn't considered a major league
09:34and didn't broadcast every game.
09:36The game against the Knicks began and it was clear from the outset
09:39that it was going to be a magical night.
09:41There was no television coverage
09:43and only a few thousand fans were in attendance,
09:45but the ones who witnessed it saw history unfold.
09:49Chamberlain was a scoring machine that season
09:51as he averaged 50.4 points a game.
09:54Another unbreakable record, by the way.
09:56The closest anyone has come was Kobe Bryant
09:59when he scored 81 points in 2006.
10:02And an 81-point game, 55 in the second half.
10:07Ladies and gentlemen, you have witnessed

10:29Number 1. Most Championships as a Player – Bill Russell
10:33Winning an NBA championship is quite an accomplishment.
10:36It's not an easy task to achieve.
10:38So imagine winning a mind-boggling 11 of them.
10:41Yet for all his accolades, one aspect of his transcendent career stands out.
10:47He has more titles to his credit than any other player in NBA history.
10:52That'd put you on the same level as the legendary Boston Celtic Bill Russell.
10:56Most of his wins came at a time when the Celtics
10:58were the dominant team in the NBA during the 60s.
11:01And there were less than 15 teams in the league at this time.
11:04That's it. It's all over. It's all over.
11:08Everybody in the place is yelling and screaming.
11:11They deserve it, John.
11:12They're the greatest basketball team that was ever assembled.
11:15It's a set of conditions that will never be seen again
11:18as the league has expanded to 30 teams.
11:20And even winning three or more championships is hard enough,
11:23let alone 11.
11:25Russell is the greatest winner of all time,
11:28the most valuable player of all time,
11:33and no one can equal his record of 11 championships in 13 years.
11:38What NBA record do you think is unbreakable?
11:41Let us know in the comments.
