00:06I feel like last time since the last time I've seen you, you guys have added a member
00:10to your family. How's it been going from four to five? Um, what do you mean? Sorry, like,
00:17there was four of you and now there's five of you. Oh, with a new baby. That's dad with
00:21a new baby at home brain. Um, no, everything's great. It's just a little more challenging
00:26with everybody being together because the girls want to go do some all the time. Um,
00:31but he's been great. He's just laying around happy baby. I imagine they're treating him
00:35like a little baby doll, right? Yeah. Very motherly. Um, Cody's pretty good with him
00:41too. There's sometimes we got to watch him where like she thinks she can pull his eyelashes
00:44off or something. But other than that, the middle child is always like, let me push the
00:48limit. That's so funny. You have got another single headed up the chart. Let's talk about
00:54miles on it and working with marshmallow. Like, I don't know if I know the official
00:57story behind this song and how the collab came about. Um, we just finished the show
01:03and uh, I walked into my green room and uh, got a text message from him and it's just
01:09said, are you ready for part two? And then he sent me the song and uh, we played it and
01:13then ended up playing it like five or six times cause every time we got done with it,
01:15somebody else would walk in. I'm just asking everybody how they liked it and only got one
01:20negative response out of five. So I was like, let's uh, let's do it. But that's almost a
01:25good time that you're like playing it over and over again and not tired of it. Like whenever
01:27I find a song that I like, I listen to it over and over again. By the fifth time I was,
01:31it was the hook was in my head. So I was like, okay, this could be a smash. It's so catchy
01:34and I have not been able to see the tour this year, but I imagine that that is like an electric
01:38moment in the show. It's been fun to watch it grow cause I think we got it came out and
01:41we, we basically had our stadium shows left. Yeah. Um, so it was cool. They were spaced
01:47out enough that we got to watch it grow from on the radio too, which is so fun. And then
01:51by the time this interview airs, you will have had several really exciting announcements
01:55of a new song drop. You will have announced the new album high road as well as the tour.
02:01Talk to me about album name. Uh, see the first person asked me that we couldn't, yeah, we
02:07couldn't figure out, um, a title. And then, uh, the high road, that's, uh, me and our
02:13buddy Johnny. Um, we just, the song is so good and it's so cool. I just didn't feel
02:19like I get such a strong message, but I didn't feel like it was finished yet. Uh, so we couldn't
02:23put it on the album, but it was such a cool title. And then with miles on, there's a couple
02:27driving songs on here. So it makes sense. And then we're about to go to Australia and
02:31then like, I'm always trying to keep my head up even through negativity. So just made sense.
02:38Yeah. And then we can revisit that. We're of course going to revisit the song and try
02:40and make it good. So we can put it on another project or maybe if this one's extended. Yeah.
02:45Yeah. I love even like the album artwork, like it looks gorgeous. This new art that
02:49you guys have looks awesome. Yeah. We went, uh, we did it in Palmdale, uh, like a couple
02:54weeks ago. Really? Yeah. I have to give props to you. Cause I don't feel like there's a
02:57lot of guys who'd wear white pants, but like you killed it. That's the first time I've
03:00wore white pants since I've left skinny jeans in 2017 or 18. Um, but yeah, it was cool.
03:07I feel like you always have fun with style that like, how involved in that are you and
03:11how much are you like just take direction from a stylist? So my stylist normally, so
03:16used to my stylist had to talk me into wearing stuff cause I only liked, you know, what I
03:21wore and then now we've, you know, kept changing stylists and they've kept getting crazier
03:27and crazier and what they wanted me to wear. And so I've been, you know, using small crazy
03:33things that you wouldn't see me in. And then it's kind of got me in to a bigger, broader
03:37wardrobe. What's the thing that you like say no to? They're like, I'm not doing it. Uh,
03:42it just depends. Sometimes it's just not cool. But like, uh, like the friends that are just
03:48for the people's choice awards, I usually wouldn't do that. I thought that was great.
03:51I thought it looked cool. I mean, it was just the sleeves too. Like normally it's like all
03:55the way down the sleeve, the back. Um, I thought that was stretching for me and uh, what's
04:02some other stuff? Oh, we had some overalls that didn't make it into the music video or
04:06the album shoots, but it was orange, orange. Leave the one strap down. I feel like the
04:12Carhartt overalls though. Like those are back in like you're saying a lot of that. They're
04:16just, they're, they're super orange. I love that. Yeah. That's awesome. With this being
04:21like the fourth album, which feels crazy. I feel like you should have way more than
04:25that, but it also feels like I met you not that long ago. What did you want to do with
04:29this album that maybe you haven't been able to do with the last three? Like what did you
04:33feel passionately about with this project? Uh, well me, um, I mean I've, I just, I know
04:39I got thrown into the music game, so it's been a learning curve for me and I'm still
04:43learning and uh, this album, I just really wanted to have every song that I could play
04:48live and my last couple albums, you know, I like the songs, but then some of them were
04:53years old, so I'd already grown as an artist and don't want to perform them or, or I feel
04:59like they don't have a big enough message for everybody. Uh, but this album, there's
05:05so many great songs, even the slow songs. That's what I fight with the hardest is putting
05:08those in my show because I love energy, but these are so good at, uh, like story songs
05:15or relatable that I feel like I could just do a whole tour on this album and be happy.
05:19That's awesome. Speaking of the slower songs, I literally screamed when I opened my email
05:24and I saw that you cut backseat driver because I have been watching Jordan Walker play this
05:28song for like probably years at writer's rounds. Famous already because of him. No, truly like
05:34I have watched grown men crumble when he would play that song and they'd be like, why is
05:37no one recorded this? And people would text me all the time and ask me about it. So when
05:41I saw that I was like, Oh, this is the perfect person to sing this song. Yeah. I was saying
05:46God had, I mean, cause it's a beautiful song and they said they showed it to everybody.
05:50And uh, first time I listened to it, I was like, this is me. So right. It's so like God
05:55just held it for me. I know. I feel like that. I always feel like the songs find the right
05:59person because there were a couple other people that I was like, you're a girl, dad. Why didn't
06:03you cut that? I don't understand. So I feel like you got really lucky. Is that like on
06:07a short list for singles? Uh, what do you mean? Sorry. Could it be a single? That's
06:12the next single. It is the next single. Stop. Yeah. I'm really excited. Yeah. It comes out
06:16the 11th I think. Yeah. I really truly like the Met. Like I have a bunch of guy friends
06:21from home who are all girl dads and they like always ask me about that song. So I know that
06:25they're going to be really excited. Yeah. I was, what did Caitlin think when you played
06:28it for her? No, she cried. She did. Yeah. Yeah. Did the girls get it? Do they think
06:32it's fun? They're not old enough yet. We always tell them like this song's for y'all and then
06:38we'll play, uh, another song on the album. Like, and they'll just want that one. This
06:42is y'all song. I also saw you say that there are two songs with Caitlin on the album. One
06:49is country. One is pop. Talk about that a little bit. Uh, yes. We have body talk. That's
06:52going to go to pop radio. Um, super sexy song. Kind of got like a little Latin vibe in the
06:59beat. And then you have, uh, do us a part that's, uh, just country vibe. We, we love,
07:05uh, to do it. Um, and then I forgot, I told you so, but when Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood
07:11both did it, and so we try to come as close to that as we could. Um, and this song reminded
07:17us of it. Oh my God. This is going to be so much fun. And now she, it's like another like
07:21moment in the live show with you, which is also great. Yeah. She doesn't have to get
07:24ready for 45 minutes and sing one song. Yeah. And now she's got like two, three, like building
07:29her own little catalog. I love that. And then with the high road tour, what are you most
07:34excited about? Cause I mean like you and playing stadium shows this year with, uh, the, in
07:37the air tour, like what are you excited about for next year? Uh, well I'm really excited.
07:42Like normally I feel like the people that we've brought on tour recently, we've, we've
07:45kind of toured with already other than Tyler. Um, I mean we have toured with him, but it'll
07:50be cool. I've, I've been wanting to tour with Scotty for a little while now. And then,
07:54um, I've been wanting to tour with, uh, Mitchell, um, a little bit, but it's with Scotty McCreary,
08:01Mitchell Tempenny, um, Dasha and, uh, Ashley cook. Oh my God. Yeah. It's great. So two
08:08of them will be half and to be half, but it was funny cause I didn't think so. Mitchell's
08:12been on my list so many times to ask the tour. And, uh, we went through this text message
08:17the other day. He's like, yo, I'm so excited. I'm going on tour with you. I've been waiting
08:20for you to ask me. And I said, bro, I have never asked you because the last time you
08:24opened for me, you said you didn't want to tour with me anymore because, but he was joking
08:29because he was saying that I had such a diehard fan base that he just, I don't know. But I was
08:35like, nah, dude, that's the whole reason I even haven't even asked you to come on tour with me.
08:39Wait, that's going to be so fun. He's also got that great new album that just dropped and he's
08:43like one of the nicest, sweetest guys. Yeah. It's cool fun. That's what you want on tour.
08:47Somebody that's going to hang out and you can vibe with and you don't have to, cause you know
08:52me, I'm very quiet and if I'm not vibing with you, I'm just, I'll hang with you, but I'm not
08:57going to go out of my way for it. Well, exactly. And if it's like people you have to see every
09:00single day, you like want to feel comfortable with them and you don't want to feel like you're
09:03entertaining them cause you are quiet. But like, if I, like I look like I'm always active on tour,
09:08so I'll go golf or I'll go work out or if there's a basketball gym, whatever, we play pickleball,
09:12we've found a room to play soccer and I want you to come enjoy that stuff with us. That's what's
09:16going to make us closer and be friends. I feel like, uh, there's some artists you can bring out
09:21and they just, they're artists. Like they got to be by themselves. You can't see me till the show
09:28starts. Wait, that's so funny. Well, that'll be really fun. I'm excited to hear that. Where,
09:33like, what are you most excited to play? Like venue wise on that tour that maybe you haven't
09:37gotten to yet? I can't even lie to you. I don't know where I'm at or where I'm going. I found
09:42out I was coming here an hour ago. No, it's totally that. I feel like that's your life right
09:46now. Like you are like, you wake up, you go where they tell you to go. You like spend time with your
09:50family. Well, it's just stress free. I don't even have my schedule on my phone. Like Kate knows,
09:55Kate is a boss. She knows where I'm going when I'm coming back without even looking at her phone
09:59months from now. Um, so yeah, she's just, she's my walking schedule. She's got to like keep the
10:05household on track and knowing where you are at all times is probably really helpful. People
10:10watching the dogs, she needs a dog sitter to travel. Like she's got all that on lock. Yeah,
10:16that's awesome. She's so great. I hope that you guys will do more press because I love when she
10:19comes in and talks about everything that's going on. Yeah, that's awesome. We are moving into
10:24like Halloween fall spooky season. I know that you were super big on scary movies.
10:29What have you been watching? I haven't really been watching much lately.
10:34Uh, scary movies. I would still say talk to me is my favorite recently.
10:40Whatever you say you like, I'm, this is what I stay away from because I hate screaming.
10:44Talk to me though. But yeah, if you don't like scary movies, I'd stay away from it.
10:47Have you watched from? Yeah, the, uh, series. Yes. Yeah. I haven't finished it,
10:52but I can watch that. That's like just scary enough. That's not even scary.
10:57It's terrifying for me. Yeah. I really liked that, but nobody's talking about it and I'm
11:01worried it's going to get canceled. I'm like, I want everybody. It's a small,
11:05yeah, it's kind of a small, right? So it's only like MGM plus or something,
11:08but I keep telling people I'm like, watch this cause it's so good. Yeah. I never watched lost,
11:12but I imagine that's like kind of what lost is like. I've never seen that either. Yeah. It seems
11:17like too much to take on at this point, too many episodes. But, um, also Halloween will be right
11:22around the corner when we have you on, do you guys have a game plan for Halloween yet? Or are
11:25you waiting for Caitlin to tell you? We always go to my manager's neighborhood and trick or treat.
11:30Yeah. Yeah. Do the girls have something that they want to be this year? Like what are they
11:33very into? They've said many things. Yeah. It's usually princesses or, um, they've been watching
11:40this new show on Disney called red or something. So they've been talking about being that I have
11:45no idea. Talk about dressing crew as a pumpkin. That's what you do every year when you have like
11:50a newborn or like a six month old baby, you just like dress it as a pumpkin. Um, also we will have
11:55you on the week of your birthday. Oh, nice. What will you say has been like the highlight from this
12:00past year? And what are you looking forward to in the next year? Um, the highlight would probably
12:06just getting to play the stadiums and of course having crew, um, finishing the album and yeah,
12:14just being my first year in my thirties. Yeah. How does it feel being 30? Do you feel any
12:19difference? It was good. I've been waiting to turn 30 for the last, last four years. I've always felt
12:24like I was 30, but I could never say I was 30. I know. I felt like that too. Like I, my like
12:29parents used to say when I was little, they were like, you were like three going on 30. I was like,
12:32I think I was meant to be 30 and like, people feel scared to turn 30. I'm like, 30 is awesome.
12:36Yeah. I was waiting. You just like, don't care anymore. Kind of like it. But now that I'm 30,
12:41about to be 31. I'm like, Hmm. Yeah. There's nothing good after that. I just start lying about
12:45this. People are like, how old are you? I'm like, I've been 30 for a few years. Yeah. On a state of
12:4830. Yeah, exactly. How are you guys going to celebrate your birthday this year? I know Kate
12:52always goes all out for birthdays. Yeah. Well this year, the October, October is so busy cause
12:56we're trying to redo our kitchen. So we're going to go down to Florida for a little while. Um,
13:02but I started last year. I'm doing this annual golf trip where I take my boys and we just go
13:05play golf for like three or four days. And then we'll get back on the 18th and my birthday's in
13:12three days. So I don't know what Kate will have planned. Yeah. Where are you guys going golfing?
13:15Oh, we're gonna play Jordan's course again. We played it last year. I have no idea what that
13:19is. It's in Florida. Okay. But it was cool. The, the hangs more, it's better than the golf usually.
13:24Cause like last time I was there, Jordan was there. So I got to meet him. How was that? It
13:28was awesome. I felt bad cause I was talking to this one dude and he's a famous golfer or something.
13:33And I feel bad for getting his name now. But then I heard a cane and I turned around and it was
13:39Michael Jordan. And I forgot that this dude was even there and I just turned around and walked
13:44away. And afterwards I was like, I didn't even say bye to that guy. Oh my God. That's so funny.
13:48Took his hand, got to meet him. Didn't ask for a picture cause I didn't want to be that guy. And
13:52uh, he said I was welcome anytime. So we're going back this year.
13:55Isn't it always hard in that situation where you're like, I'm such a fan. I want to ask
13:58for a picture, but you also are like, I would rather be your friend and not like blow this
14:02right now. So it's like always a weird thing. All my friends are like, you didn't get a picture with
14:06him. And uh, but just being in the business, I was like, nah, you know how it is. He's just
14:11at his hangout spot. Yeah. That's a really special thing to be able to take your friends and go do
14:15that. I'm sure like, cause you don't get a lot of time to just hang. Like you're like either
14:18working your home with your family. So I'm sure that that's really special for you. Yeah. That's
14:23cool. As for me, it's getting to take my friends that wouldn't have the opportunity. Um, they grew
14:28up with me to just get to do stuff like that. Yeah. That's awesome. Last thing I wanted to ask
14:31you about, cause this happened since the last time I saw you is you now have a certified diamond
14:36song with heaven. What does that feel like for you? Like, what does that mean to have an accolade
14:41that big? Cause I think you're one of nine people and 11 songs, which is so crazy. Um, that is,
14:49um, probably the coolest milestone that you can have. Cause I mean, after diamond, you kind of
14:54stopped counting, right? Yeah. I mean, unless you get a two times diamond, which would be wild,
14:59but, uh, yeah. I mean, I think that's the, the usually people say that success is having a
15:05number one and of course it is super successful. But when you get that one that just says diamond,
15:09it's like, this song's massive. So it's just, uh, I never thought I'd have a diamond song.
15:15Never thought I'd be playing a stadium. So it's wild. I remember the first time I met you,
15:20you were playing a show for us in New York on this like little bitty stage. And I remember
15:23asking you about like what your goal was for like the next year. And you're like,
15:26I want a number one song on country radio. Like you said it with like such conviction. It was
15:29like so dialed. And to think now that you have a diamond song with heaven is just wild. That might
15:34have even was having the first single. No, no. Third, third sober. Oh my God. That's so wild.
15:43That's crazy. I'm so happy for you. Like no one deserves this more. And I always am like
15:47happy to see you on stage getting recognized for like all the awesome stuff that you do.
