00:00You can catch the Bowden Blitz podcast on SportsGrid every week, and you can catch Coach
00:08Terry Bowden on Coast to Coast every Friday.
00:11Thank God for that.
00:12Coach, good to see you as always.
00:15Tonight, Oregon goes to Ross-Ade in West Lafayette, and Purdue gave Illinois all they could handle
00:21in Champaign-Urbana in an overtime game.
00:24I couldn't believe it after the way Purdue had been getting their ass kicked in every
00:29game.
00:30I mean, teams were just slicing them apart, but they looked good against the ranked Illini.
00:35Can they catch Oregon coming off the Ohio State game sleeping at all, because they're
00:41laying 29 and a hook?
00:43I tell you, I've got an urge to take those points.
00:47I know Oregon's going to beat them, but they've got a lot of things.
00:50They come off a huge game.
00:51They were mentally into Ohio State for a lot of weeks, and now they're coming to a team
00:56that they can't show hardly any good film except that last one.
01:00Oregon's going to win the game, but I tell you, I have a hard time going against that
01:03number for Purdue.
01:06Tonight in Provo, this tough BYU team that's undefeated and ranked 13th.
01:12They're laying nine to Oklahoma State, and the Cowboys have struggled of late.
01:18We just saw what BYU did to Arizona at home in Provo.
01:23They put 41 on them.
01:24What do you think they do tonight against Gundy's Pokes?
01:29Yeah, I think Gundy's Pokes are having trouble.
01:32They can't run the ball like they're used to doing.
01:34They can't find which quarterback they want to use.
01:38And Coach Gundy keeps saying, we're going to get it straightened out, and they haven't
01:42been able to get it straightened out.
01:43BYU was picked 13th at the conference preseason, and now they're 13th in the top 25.
01:49They're on a roll.
01:50They've gotten more confidence every week.
01:52They're expecting snow possibly tonight in BYU.
01:55I'm picking BYU all the way to cover.
01:57So tomorrow night in primetime at 7.30, Georgia and Texas at Memorial in Austin.
02:03Quite a weekend in Austin, Texas.
02:06They got a Formula One race.
02:07They got this big Georgia-Texas game.
02:10Texas has owned Georgia.
02:12They beat them four out of five meetings.
02:14No one's ever done that to Georgia before like Texas has.
02:19Texas laying four and a half here, Coach.
02:22Well, you know, again, I don't know how far back that goes, but in the Kirby Smart era,
02:27I sure like the way Georgia's been playing since he's been the head coach.
02:30And, you know, I don't know if I can go with on this one.
02:33I've got thinking Georgia's going to show up to this game.
02:36They're going to put it together.
02:38I think the athletes, the number one team is clearly Texas.
02:41But I got this feeling.
02:42I don't know if Georgia, they'll win by a field goal, but I don't know three and a half.
02:44But I have this feeling Kirby Smart's going to get that team.
02:47He's been in postseason play.
02:49He knows what the stakes are.
02:51Huge game for Georgia if they were to lose another game.
02:54I'm going with Georgia, and I'm going with Georgia to win the football game.
02:57Whoa, look at Coach digging Georgia.
03:00Sweet.
03:01Alabama and Tennessee and Knoxville at 330 on ABC.
03:06They haven't slain three, and they have owned the Vols through the years.
03:11Well, they're going to own them again if the Vols don't know who they are
03:13or what they're doing.
03:15Josh Hypo got that job by throwing the ball vertically down the field
03:18and throwing the bubble screens on the outside, which opened up the running game.
03:22He now tries to run the football without the passing game
03:25to get people backing off, and he's getting killed.
03:27Thank goodness he has a great defense, but that's not the style he wants to play.
03:31So I think Alabama, when things like this, Alabama's defense has struggled
03:35to be sharp every week.
03:36Tennessee doesn't have a strong offense right now.
03:39When I see that, I go, who's got the best quarterback,
03:42the most experienced quarterback, the veteran quarterback,
03:45and that's Milrow and Alabama.
03:47I'm with you there, Coach.
03:49A good one tomorrow in Bloomington at Memorial Stadium at Indiana
03:53as the Hoosiers, undefeated, ranked 16th, 6-0 for Kurt Cignetti.
03:59He's been incredible.
04:01They're laying 6-1 to a 5-1 rule-led Nebraska Oscar team with Dylan Reola.
04:08I think this is going to be a wild game.
04:09It's on Fox.
04:10It's their noon game.
04:13Can you imagine before the year that we were going to see a 5-1 Nebraska
04:17playing a 6-0 Indiana?
04:19But let me tell you about Kurt Cignetti.
04:21His dad, Frank Cignetti, was my dad's offensive coordinator at West Virginia,
04:26and he was my head coach.
04:27I grew up with Kurt.
04:28Kurt was a quarterback.
04:29He was a quarterback coach for Nick Saban in Alabama before he went
04:32into his head coaching period.
04:33I'm a big—they're brilliant on offense, and Kurt is brilliant.
04:37He's won, I think, every game by 14 points or more, and he's going to keep it going
04:43because he sees what's going on here, and he's not just a new coach.
04:46He's been a veteran head coach for a long time, and like myself,
04:49he's the son of an outstanding football coach.
04:51His father was really a brilliant offensive line, Frank Cignetti Sr.,
04:55and, of course, his brother, Frankie, is a coach in the NFL.
04:59But I think Kurt Cignetti has got something special going on down in Indiana.
05:03Man, they're lucky they got him because they have sucked forever in football.
05:07They haven't been good since 1967.
05:09Maybe once under Bill Mallory in 87, they were decent,
05:13but they've never been anything more than decent.
05:15It's a basketball school.
05:17I went to school there.
05:18Believe me, you, I was there for Bob Knight in basketball, not football,
05:22and to see them 6-0, I almost fell over.
05:25Illinois and Michigan—and I knew his dad, by the way,
05:29was a great legendary coach, Frank Cignetti.
05:32He coached till the guy was like 100.
05:35Michigan and Illinois in Champaign-Urbana at 330.
05:38Michigan laying three and a half.
05:40They're 24th in the country.
05:42Illinois is 22.
05:44You know, Michigan's got so much uncertainty on the quarterback position.
05:48They don't have much of an offense.
05:50They play great defense, but Illinois can throw the ball now a little bit,
05:53and I think Illinois has got the outstanding football coach,
05:56and I just kind of lean toward Illinois here.
05:58I just feel like the way they're playing and what they've got going,
06:01they've got more answers that Michigan has,
06:04and Michigan's got more questions than Illinois has.
06:07How about my Canes?
06:09Ranked sixth.
06:10They pulled a couple of them out of their arse,
06:12including the game at Berkeley, but I don't care what anyone says.
06:15You're down 35-10.
06:16You win 39-38.
06:18That's badass.
06:19They're laying five at a tough Louisville team noon tomorrow on ABC.
06:25I think it's going to be a good game.
06:27Oh, it will be a good game, and Louisville is probably the toughest team.
06:30I think if they beat Louisville, which I believe they will,
06:32and they have to come out ready to play,
06:34they run the table till they get to the conference championship.
06:37They have got to come out of the locker room ready to play.
06:40They can't get themselves behind because the defense isn't playing sharp early.
06:44Cam Ward, for all of his greatness, he comes out sometimes lethargic.
06:47He makes a dumb decision early.
06:50Maybe it's just to show everybody how good he can make it up,
06:52but they have got to come out sharp because Louisville is good enough.
06:55If they get ahead, they can continue to match points with them
06:58and put them in trouble, but I am picking Miami
07:00because I think they've learned something the last couple weeks.
07:02They must come out of the locker room,
07:04and we must see how they play that first quarter.
07:06Virginia is 4-2.
07:08They're going to Death Valley to take on Clemson.
07:12In Clemson, they're 5-1.
07:14They've been hot lately.
07:16Clemson's laying 20.
07:18It's at noon in the heat.
07:21I will tell you something.
07:22I was at Clemson as an analyst three years ago
07:24when I was Tony Elliott's analyst,
07:26and I know Dabo, who coached for my brother at Clemson.
07:29I know Tony Elliott, and they are great friends,
07:32and Dabo's kind of a mentor.
07:35Virginia will be lucky to play in this game,
07:37but you know what? I don't think Dabo will run it in.
07:39I don't think he wants to add points on.
07:41I think he'll lay off at the end
07:43unless he's so far ahead at the beginning
07:45to back up score too much,
07:46so I've got Virginia to get the points,
07:49but I think Clemson's going to beat them,
07:51but I think there's a special relationship
07:53between Dabo and Elliott.
07:55I don't think he wants to. He won't rub it in.
07:56If he has a chance, he won't rub it in.
07:58Does Army and Navy both stay undefeated?
08:01Army's playing East Carolina.
08:04Navy's playing Charlotte.
08:05Do they both stay undefeated?
08:07Absolutely, and it would be a fantastic situation
08:10if those guys could run the table,
08:12and then the college football playoff's
08:13got to make some big decisions,
08:15because tell me how many people would love to see Army
08:17or Navy in the college football playoff.
08:19May not happen, but would love to see it.
08:22So Notre Dame's going to the Benz in Atlanta
08:25to take on Georgia Tech.
08:27That game is not at Bobby Dodd.
08:28They're playing it in the Falcon Stadium,
08:31and Super Bowl in 2028 will be there, Super Bowl 62.
08:36Georgia Tech will not have King their quarterback.
08:39They're going with the veteran backup
08:41that they have on the sideline.
08:43Does that ruin their chances against the Irish?
08:45It's Notre Dame laying 14.
08:47Absolutely, absolutely.
08:48Notre Dame knows what they've got to do.
08:50The more they can distance themselves from Illinois,
08:53which was just an outlier.
08:54That's not the way they play.
08:56The more they can distance from that game,
08:57the more they know they are in the hunt
08:59for a college football playoff,
09:00and I think with Haynes King not playing,
09:03I think Notre Dame's going to win
09:05and Notre Dame's going to cover.
09:06All right, coach.
09:07Fabulous stuff.
09:08Great football tonight and all day and all night on Saturday.
09:12Enjoy the game.
09:13It's always a pleasure.
