00:00On the third day of the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction,
00:06the main discussion was on how to protect women from the various problems they face whenever there is a disaster.
00:15Benji Durango, for Santo Balita Live.
00:19On the third day of the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction held here at the PICC.
00:39Women are now facing problems that are considered a part of the vulnerable sector whenever there is a disaster.
00:48Aside from ensuring their safety, they should face their challenges before, during, and after the disaster.
00:56The Sendai Gender Action Plan aims to resolve these problems starting with a proactive government.
01:04Our country remains predominantly on board on reactive disaster response, increasing the dependence on relief goods and provisionary assistance.
01:14As a result, the economic mobility and sustainable development are sacrificed.
01:22We focus on ensuring that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, experience equitable safety and dignity before, during, and even after disasters.
01:38According to today's discussions, how to ensure that the disaster risk reduction efforts will be gender-responsive, which we do not yet know how to do.
01:50We don't necessarily know yet how to be gender-responsive in terms of, to be really gender-responsive.
01:59In the Asia-Pacific Nations, Fiji, there is a clear gender exclusivity when it comes to disaster response.
02:06This has not yet been adopted in the Philippines, but it is unlikely to happen in the country.
02:11The Gender Action Plan is a large part of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, a global agreement that was adopted in 2015.
02:21The APMC-DRR, which is being implemented here in the country, will serve as a regional platform for countries in the Asia-Pacific region to discuss and implement the Sendai Framework.
02:33It is fortunate that the convention is being held here in the country because this is where the implementation, policy dialogue, knowledge sharing, advocacy, and mobilization will be planned.
02:45The Sendai Framework has four key priorities that countries should identify here, in addition to the seven global targets for a country to be disaster resilient.
02:56The Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference is attended by government officials, disaster risk reduction experts, civil society organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders.
03:10Meanwhile, Aljo, 21 town hall discussions will be held today, attended jointly by 33 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
03:20Aljo.
03:21Thank you very much, Benji Durango.
