00:00:11Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:13Hard hats?
00:00:14Lunch pails?
00:00:15Steel-toed boots?
00:00:16Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:17Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:19You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:22Somebody said we need to apologize for Jalen.
00:00:24Can I pull the John?
00:00:25What are we apologizing for?
00:00:26What did we say?
00:00:27What did we do?
00:00:28Oh, wow, and it fails and it does things.
00:00:42What's going on, guys?
00:00:45As close to a full crew as we'll have, Professor Blakely cannot join us, but we do have Noah
00:00:50Dalzell, real Bob Manning, down below, Jimmy Toscano, and the preseason is over.
00:00:57Yeah, me I wish I wish you wouldn't I wish it would never end this was this was a ton of fun
00:01:04super fun basketball game
00:01:06Joe, Missoula did not want to let it go
00:01:09He did not want to lose this game
00:01:12Bringing back the starters in the fourth quarter. He went for it
00:01:16Exciting it was fun. But you know, we've I think we've learned some things
00:01:21About the team and you know the direction they're going and I still a couple of question marks to
00:01:28To you know to kind of before the season starts, I guess that final roster spot. It's hotly debated
00:01:34We're gonna have Noah and Bobby
00:01:36Go at it
00:01:39Happen there
00:01:41Bobby I've never Bobby's is riled up as he gets over over this you don't don't you don't say I don't even know
00:01:48Don't don't say Lonnie Walker if you don't want to get your head chewed off, I'm just
00:01:55Yeah
00:01:57Bobby I just don't know what we're gonna find. Oh, no, I hate to be in that position because I like them
00:02:02I think he's done. Well, I think he's probably put on about as strong of a performance to make that as far as you can
00:02:09And it's just such a high hurdle
00:02:11We've talked about the money
00:02:12We've talked about how they can probably get away with putting him in Maine for some part of the year
00:02:17And it feels like that's the way they're gonna go after DNP tonight
00:02:21So we'll see that they have until Saturday to make that call
00:02:24but yeah
00:02:25No minutes for walk or after we can or do they already know he's made the team in the and he doesn't need to do
00:02:31nothing else I
00:02:33Think first of all, I think that the substitution patterns today
00:02:36We're just they were trying to balance out guys from who was playing a lot on Sunday like Drew Peterson didn't play today in
00:02:40Favor of Ron Harper jr
00:02:42I think they were just making sure that everybody had a big enough sample that they weren't just playing for like three minutes
00:02:46So I wouldn't read into that but I think you're right Bobby that the same considerations that have been true from the start
00:02:52Remain true and the money thing was was always a reality and the flexibility of having that 15 spot open
00:02:59but I like that you you tweeted out like the 10 million dollars thing which has always been a fact and then everybody was
00:03:05Aggregating it like you had just broken some some new like thing that was controversial where it was like that was just the correct
00:03:11Information from the beginning what is the what the tax what the tax hit is?
00:03:16Yeah
00:03:18Yeah, that's how I feel from the moment they signed him is that
00:03:23It's very expensive to have a 15th guy on this team. Now the debate we're gonna have is whose money is it?
00:03:30Whether there's whether there's anyone better
00:03:32There's probably no one better you can find for the debate
00:03:35We're gonna have is whether or not Noah's boy Jaden Springer gets dealt in his guaranteed money and that's how you make the room
00:03:41But we're gonna get into that later in the show where this isn't the Lonnie Walker hour
00:03:46I guarantee that we'll talk about it. I don't know what people are most interested in for sure
00:03:51I don't know which weird bubble you live in where people only talk about Lonnie Walker
00:03:56Ask the chat. I do not have us. There's not a single friend of mine. That's other than words Lonnie and or Walker
00:04:03any text thread or
00:04:06You
00:04:08Have entered like the QA non for like 15th men right now and you are deep into some
00:04:15Conspiracy shit with Lonnie Walker. You've got it. You got to pull yourself out. Go touch some grass like just
00:04:22Take a walk. It's gonna be alright, trust me, but we'll get to it. We'll get to it
00:04:27I would know I had mentioned there's some you know substitution patterns tonight a little bit
00:04:33With some guys in some guys out I actually tend to think outside of
00:04:38The obvious holiday and and how is are getting the night off as a rest. This was close to what you're gonna get for
00:04:46Who's gonna play this season like this is kind of it, right?
00:04:49And and you know if if Hauser and holiday are both healthy, that's gonna mean Pritchard's minutes are reduced
00:04:55He's not gonna get as many as he got tonight and Walsh probably doesn't see the court or maybe he does but like we're
00:05:01We're literally talking about who's vying for the O'Shea Brissett minutes
00:05:04And this is what's got Bobby in a lather and it appears that Jordan Walsh
00:05:08Jordan Walsh is the runaway winner right now of of the of the
00:05:13You know O'Shea Brissett Memorial, you know play you once every five games
00:05:19Award. Yeah, and that's about it, right? Is that kind of what we've learned through the preseason? Would you would you all say?
00:05:26Yeah, I think his preseason was a pleasant surprise for sure
00:05:31Yeah, and I don't know if it I don't know if it broke the threshold of reaching O'Shea Brissett status
00:05:38I think that's gonna be interesting to watch but he does have a couple weeks early on where he will be in Boston
00:05:45Maine doesn't start until November 8th
00:05:47So I'd love to see him run away with that spot and like I've said in a couple
00:05:51I don't want to see the shooting be the reason he doesn't get a chance here because I thought he brought so much other stuff
00:05:57To the table. You see the finish around the basket late. I think it tied the game, right?
00:06:01You see the reads he's able to make screens ten rebounds again here in this one. So he's been all over the boards
00:06:10Defensively had that great play at the end that he blew up
00:06:14We've had this debate about million times John
00:06:16Either you shoot on this team or you're a center or you're not playing and
00:06:21Unfortunately, I have a feeling that the shooting is gonna keep him from playing right now
00:06:26And there's obviously other things he needs to work on at his early age and early stage in his development
00:06:31But it just feels like at least from what you've watched early on John
00:06:34Doesn't it seem like he can bring a little something?
00:06:37I didn't feel this way a year ago and I certainly didn't expect to feel this way coming off his horrendous summer league
00:06:42But man, did he turn it around this preseason? I thought he was awesome. He didn't shoot great
00:06:47He had a few spurts where his shot looked better, but I felt like everything else came a long way since that summer league
00:06:53Yeah, I mean, I don't think he stamped his ticket to anything so far, but he's the clubhouse leader
00:06:58I think it's very similar to how last year the Delano Benton started the year as kind of the hey
00:07:04Let's see how this guy rotates in for a few bench minutes, and it wasn't quite as good
00:07:09Rotates in
00:07:10For a few bench minutes and it wasn't quite working and then you tried Berset you tried Stevens you went back to Berset
00:07:16I think that that's what you're gonna get this year
00:07:18It's certainly Walsh's opportunity right now to lock it down. And if he keeps playing like this, it's for him
00:07:24It's as easy as if the shot falls. He'll he you're I mean, I hate to reduce it to that Bobby
00:07:29But I mean, that's what it is. If the shot falls consistently and he can
00:07:34Which is pretty much what he was in Maine last year
00:07:37He can if he can take it and make it with some level of confidence he can find his way onto the floor
00:07:42I think what kept all of those guys off the floor last year is how brutally they all were shooting in the in the in the
00:07:48Early going I mean really bad even guys who had decent career numbers couldn't hit anything
00:07:54kind of rotating into that 10th man spot and
00:07:58That's that's the problem is Walsh right now has the benefit of
00:08:01Minutes that he's not going to see in the regular season and when his number is called
00:08:05He'll have sat for three games and he comes in for a four-minute stretch and he's got a show and if he doesn't he might
00:08:12He might get the knee Smith treatment and just get banished to the bench for another seven games
00:08:16So like where it's a main or main so like I don't know that he's locked it down
00:08:20But he's definitely like, you know, and I know Noah, you know gave a very thoughtful tweet
00:08:28Earlier about
00:08:29About be nice to be nice to your friends here, you know
00:08:34Jordan Walsh everyone remember they were what they were saying about him a couple of months ago a basketball terrorist
00:08:46But he was
00:08:48But I know but I just my point is is that you know
00:08:51We get so hot and cold about these players with such a small sample size
00:08:55Like how many minutes of Baylor Shireman played this preseason like not a whole lot, right?
00:09:00And it was enough to have people really like jumping off a cliff talking about him
00:09:03So my point was just Jordan Walsh things were looking really rough in July. I was there in person
00:09:08it was rough to have to talk to him after the games because it was kind of like everything went awry he had all
00:09:13These hopes for himself and watching him a few months later
00:09:16Like it legitimately looks a different basketball player and not the shot
00:09:19But just the processing the decision-making like it looks like he was rewired and it's remarkable
00:09:24I haven't seen anybody like, you know, just change their approach so quickly
00:09:28Oh, yeah, it's fan like the last time we saw him on the floor was a completely different situation
00:09:32So I just think in general like it's easy to jump to conclusions because we're waiting so much to see these guys play
00:09:37We talked about Jordan Walsh for a year and then finally we hear him
00:09:40We know we see him in person and Baylor Shireman since the draft all this hype now, he's available
00:09:45So there's a lot of differences people were quick to point out there four years apart and I totally get that but I think it's just
00:09:51Important to acknowledge like we're seeing like little snippets here and they're very much dependent on you know
00:09:55You're in a good shooting stretch right now. Drew Peterson has looked good in preseason
00:09:58He's had some rough stretches in Maine that I've watched
00:10:00So everybody has their highs and lows and we're just trying to you know
00:10:04Put the pieces together to make you know understandings of what's possible here, but I love what I saw out of Jordan Walsh
00:10:10I still think the expectation is for him to spend a lot of the year in Maine
00:10:14But I think that the door is open and it's really less about those shape or set minutes and the schema highlight minutes because those
00:10:20Were so limited last year. It's more those guys were insurance players. They never really needed to bank on them
00:10:25but it's possible that this year they're gonna need guys to actually come in and play a real rotation role if
00:10:30Tatum Springs his ankle knock on wood for two months or whatever it is
00:10:34You know
00:10:34It's like you never know
00:10:35now all of a sudden you really need Jordan Walsh or whoever takes that position more so than just like
00:10:39Three minutes here and there that O'Shea and Svee did
00:10:43We used to call Bobby Bobby sample size
00:10:46He would he would like extrapolate
00:10:4948 like what what looks like six minutes and he would extrapolate it. I still do sometimes
00:10:56Yeah, Bobby's like Bobby's he's like three four five this priest he's shooting 60% John
00:11:08I see someone here says I I wished injuries. I knocked on wood. So there's no
00:11:14Injuries they've never had no I brought up Tatum's ankle. I brought up his ankle
00:11:18I'm sorry, I I I I love I'm just saying like I lobbied for it. Yeah. No, the bar is pretty high
00:11:33I'll coast on where you guys are saying about Walsh. I think the difference is in summer league
00:11:36He was like the guy right? So now he's back into a role where he doesn't need to be that he needs to be a
00:11:43Deep deep role player and he probably feels less
00:11:46Pressure or like less of a situation where he's
00:11:50Expected to be the guy. He just needs to be the tenth guy
00:11:54So probably a little bit of a mindset change
00:11:56You know from preseason to when he was in the summer league and probably felt like he needed to shine and needed to prove that
00:12:02He was the best player out in the court, even though
00:12:04You know, there was gonna be some really talented, you know, one in first and second year players out there
00:12:09But he's a guy that can obviously do
00:12:12Multiple things out there, you know, we want him to be a good to week to a player
00:12:15Like John said it's gonna come down to the shot
00:12:19But with a healthy roster
00:12:21We're talking about guys that you know when they are in the game
00:12:24The Celtics are more than likely either up by a lot or down by a lot
00:12:27you want to see them grow into that role and that's what I love about the preseason is is
00:12:32Finding which fringe guys which deep role rotation players are gonna make some sort of elite this year whether it's
00:12:40Still majority in the G League or whether they do crack that, you know 10th
00:12:45Player rotation or whatever it is
00:12:47And there's been there's been a handful of guys who are in that argument. Obviously Walsh is one
00:12:52I still have high hopes for Tillman to have a bigger role at some point this year or to start the year
00:12:57I mean, I just think you know with
00:12:59injuries and he obviously has
00:13:01You know experience in the league. He had a he had a good role in Memphis
00:13:05I don't know. It would be nice to see him settle in a little bit in this Boston team
00:13:09It does look like Cornette's gonna have a pretty significant role with this team. We'll get to that Bobby. Yeah
00:13:18And then she
00:13:20Yeah, I'm sure you do but I
00:13:23But I think it's it's a matter of perspective how you assess and Noah why?
00:13:29You might have some people who are quick to give up. It's on this team like, okay, fine, fine fine
00:13:36He's fine for a 10th for 10th man, sure, whatever I'll take it like but I think what people are looking for
00:13:42Is they're trying to determine like did you find is he real?
00:13:45Is it did you did you did you did we did we hit one like a really hit one?
00:13:50Not did we hit it on a guy who can come in and play eight minutes a night and not and not you know
00:13:56Embarrass himself. Did we fight did you fight did we find our Chris Middleton, you know second round gem?
00:14:01Did you find that guy who can really be something that's steel?
00:14:04And once you realize he's not that or once you've determined I don't think he's gonna be that maybe he'll be fine
00:14:10You kind of lose interest and you move on to the next thing, which is why I think people get excited about you know
00:14:16Charm, and it's like well, it's a first-round pick
00:14:17We haven't had one of those in a while and then he comes out as a guy this guy stinks and then you move on
00:14:22to the next thing so your patience is
00:14:26Well, there's also a difference between a 20 year old and a 24 year old in that spot to or whatever well
00:14:32It's not 21. Yeah, there's a difference
00:14:35But I also want to say like you could be 28 for all I care
00:14:38You've never been in the NBA before he just gained 15 pounds in summer league. He's adjusting to the pace
00:14:42He's adjusting to the fit, you know physicality and everything. So there's gonna be like regardless of your age. You're new to the league
00:14:48It's still preseason, you know
00:14:50He's barely been on the floor. Like I'm not impressed at what I've seen a bit of chime in for the record
00:14:55it's not like I'm saying I'm just you know, I think with the same, you know,
00:14:58Thinking of John of what you're saying of like people want to get excited or not excited like the same guys that we're now excited
00:15:04About I could pick a sample from in July where we things look really dire and even Jordan Walsh
00:15:08You know the first summer league everybody got so high next summer league disaster, right?
00:15:12So I think it's just we're only seeing limited things
00:15:15I know that's not there's no fun to say that but I feel like I have to I have to
00:15:19include that and again
00:15:21we can get to some of the guys that like once it's been you've been in the league for four years like
00:15:24You have to show out in those moments more so like we can talk about Jaden Springer
00:15:27I'll I'll admit maybe I was a little overzealous there
00:15:31but um
00:15:31We gave up on JD Davison pretty quick and he just keeps looking better and better and since like wait a second
00:15:36Is he something so like yeah, it is it's it's early
00:15:40you know Walsh as Bobby said Walsh the the benefit you have is his youth here is
00:15:45He could be a totally different player in two years just because he's so young right now
00:15:51And so you really don't know what you have
00:15:54So seeing him make any sort of leap even from where he was last year
00:15:58I know you saw a player in Maine that you thought more closely resembled this one
00:16:02But he was doing it against that competition
00:16:04Not this competition and if he can do what he's doing now or what you've seen in a preseason
00:16:10In a semi expanded role
00:16:12Then you did get something and that that that is a real thing and I think it is worth getting excited about
00:16:17I do think that again not to move off Walsh completely, but if you're gonna flip it to the Shireman conversation
00:16:24I think it's a bummer for fans seeing what he looks like now because you realize he's I thought he's gonna hit fast
00:16:31I thought he's gonna hit faster because of his age and because of his style of play
00:16:35I thought
00:16:36He'd be able to handle it and right now the game is really sped up for him
00:16:40And it's because he changed his hair and everything. He just
00:16:45But you don't have the benefit of time with him to figure it out, so I think this is a redshirt year
00:16:51for for Baylor right now
00:16:53pretty much because I
00:16:55You know
00:16:55I don't know where you're gonna stick him in there and figure out whether or not he can he can play or not play at
00:17:01Once the season gets rolling unless the thing that Noah hopes happens everybody gets hurt and in which
00:17:14He said like I'm you know, there's a possibility that someone gets hurt
00:17:17I don't want that but I have to be ready for it. So it's a blame taking a pressure to think of his development curve
00:17:23I mean
00:17:25We liked him early on. I like the pick
00:17:28Now he's the best player in the preseason and looks like he's a real breakout candidate for this team five years in so even as
00:17:34A guy who came out older even as a guy who looked like a pretty finished product out of Oregon
00:17:39He added layers and you know
00:17:41You had the possibility they could have got traded there at one point and it's these guys go through such swings in their arcs here
00:17:47You never truly know how or where it's gonna end up
00:17:51so there are a number of different interesting guys on this team and the Pritchard example is a good one of
00:17:58might get lost in the shuffle at a certain point whether it's earlier in between as it was in Pritchard's case, but
00:18:04You could come out the other side looking amazing and man
00:18:07He I know it's preseason and I know we've watched him in different spots look good, but he looks like
00:18:14World B. I don't want to throw out six man. I see a lot of people doing that. I think that's a high bar
00:18:20Yeah, you do but wow, I mean he's
00:18:23world I
00:18:26Prediction John I smell a bold prediction. I mean I could see him finishing in like the top three to five maybe but
00:18:34Why he he's just looks incredible. He said he worked on the pull-up shooting. That's evident. He was stronger leaner
00:18:41I know you mentioned that John he does a bit leaner. I don't think you can win sixth man as an eighth man, though
00:18:47Like that's right
00:18:50Like I just you know, a sixth man is a de facto, you know is a starter essentially
00:18:55They're playing starters minutes for the most part coming off the bench
00:18:58But when it what you know, and they're closing some games, but they're getting typically, you know in the 30 minute per game range
00:19:04I just don't think Pritchard's ever gonna get there
00:19:06so I think that that's I think that that's wishful thinking but that being said is
00:19:12He's not a brick glass in case of emergency player anymore. He's a guy when he comes in the game
00:19:16You're like we could use what Pritchard's do it what Pritchard brings to the game and that's that's that's what makes it better
00:19:23And different is you're not surviving bench minutes. You're actually like, oh, maybe they could get a little spark from Pritchard here
00:19:30The offense is stagnated and they could use that, you know, and that's what's great
00:19:34Is that that's what he's that's what he's bringing now
00:19:37And especially like playing, you know against those second units
00:19:41So yeah, I mean, I mean he's ended up he played 22 minutes a game last year it you know
00:19:47I don't know how much I don't know how much higher that gets this year. What do you what do you guys think?
00:19:52I mean not I'm with you. I don't think he's gonna have a big enough again
00:19:55He's gonna have a big role, but he's not gonna have six man of the year rule
00:19:57I mean, don't forget like those like John said I mean
00:20:01Who is that? Who is the Knicks player who?
00:20:04wanted
00:20:06Quickly, he didn't win. He lost he lost to Brogdon. Yeah, that was the you lost it
00:20:10but the argument was that the only reason he lost is because he ended up starting like for the second half of that was
00:20:15One of the broad that was one of the pro Brogdon arguments that was being made on the Boston side of things
00:20:19Yeah, he's a true sixth man and somehow that entered the equation
00:20:23Yeah
00:20:23quickly quickly started more games and also his starting numbers were
00:20:28High and kind of skewed his overall numbers because as a starter he was he was he was scoring 20 something a game or whatever
00:20:34It was awesome. Anyway, anyways, I don't I don't see Pritchard with that type of heat when he is in the core
00:20:39I mean minutes aside
00:20:41There's just too many other guys who are gonna command the ball and be more of a focal point
00:20:47He's gonna come in and play his role awesome
00:20:49I have a lot more confidence in him like just like you guys do like now that I ever remember what Jalen said when they
00:20:55Played Detroit. They're just gonna let him score it there. Yeah, and they'll still win
00:21:00Yeah
00:21:03No, he's I mean I Pritchard's one of the guys that you have to feel great about going into the year
00:21:07I think he's one of the guys who has
00:21:09You know if you're talking about preseason takes like he's he's up up there at the top. I think for most people
00:21:14just somebody that's
00:21:17Making some sort of a leap here, you know and whether that's just the confidence that he's had
00:21:22I know but he's one of those guys that seems to put in a ton of work
00:21:25So you're talking about Sherman and some of these other guys and you want to make comparisons to Pritchard?
00:21:29I hope that they're in the gym and they're working on their game as much as Pritchard does because he is
00:21:34Definitely a guy that has had to work for everything to be where he is today
00:21:38I mean just cuz you know a bit of an undersized and everything like that, but he's when it comes to confidence and
00:21:44Those steep threes man, I mean how many times in the playoffs?
00:21:49Did we see one of those go down? So I think he's gonna have a good role for them for sure
00:21:54yeah, um, so
00:21:57We're gonna definitely go over a few more things that we didn't talk about it at all tonight
00:22:01But I think Jason Tatum and the game that he had tonight, I think
00:22:07Definitely
00:22:09deserves all deserves a little bit of attention and
00:22:13You know, we'll continue kind of going through some of the you know fine-tuning of the final roster positions here
00:22:19We talked about al first chance. We got to see him, you know, obviously a little bit rusty here
00:22:24But we are officially now what we are a week a week away
00:22:30From this game and and again, I gotta tell you if you if you if you guys want to get in on the action here
00:22:36Oh boy. Oh boy
00:22:39You can you there were you there? Oh nine John opening night. Yes, I was
00:22:44When when Paul when Paul Pierce gave a speech about how he like saved America
00:22:50And like single-handedly won the title it was it was here comes John's beers Pierce bashing Bobby's
00:22:58Every few weeks
00:23:01It was bad anyway
00:23:03Yes, it was anyway, by the way, I can't see my face right now. I hate how this looks
00:23:09I
00:23:11Like just cuz we can't see your face. Yes

00:24:46But real quick on game time
00:24:48I just used game time for Coldplay tickets that Coldplay is doing their world their world tour here coming up next year
00:24:57tried to get him on on
00:24:59Tried to get him when they went on sale
00:25:01couldn't do it jumped over to game time as they were still on sale and
00:25:06Bought them on game time and by the time other people realized that they weren't gonna be able to get them like the regular way
00:25:13I
00:25:13Heard I had already got my tickets on game time and the price price is shot up like after the fact
00:25:19So I kind of did the opposite of what I usually do. I bought them immediate bottom early

00:25:47I don't know. Does it is it that important? Yeah, because I want to know who he is. Who is he?
00:25:52I don't know what it says Faker, right?
00:25:55Is that what it says?

00:26:45Hey everything more more more more on show. Hey, but yeah
00:26:49It's a ton of fun and it's super fun with basketball because there's so many so many stats to pick from and so many players
00:26:54And so much stuff and I always feel like it's a guy
00:26:57Anthony Edwards free square right now to and the Anthony Edwards free square. That's a gimme
00:27:02You can stack it put Anthony Edwards in he's just has to score more than one point
00:27:07That's a freebie on game time
00:27:09You use that for opening night when those games play use Anthony Edwards and that's a free square, right?
00:27:16More than what I don't know, but I think he'll get the one
00:27:19Yeah, I think he'll get it is he definitely playing yeah, they're playing the Lakers
00:27:25So, let's let's let's let's go over Tatum a little bit because preseason storylines there was some Tatum concern after his shot
00:27:33Some you know some not-so-great, you know moments in the Olympics
00:27:37Some some offseason sulking and pouting and then you know
00:27:41What's he gonna be like and how's he gonna handle the pressure and everyone thinks he's overrated and he won a title and nobody's giving
00:27:48him respect
00:27:50He looked pretty awesome to me tonight
00:27:52And it was not just a shot falling which I was curious to see whether or not he'd still have some yips
00:27:57Left over from you know, his little spell, you know from the summer
00:28:02But it looked like it looked like everything was just moving in slow motion for him tonight
00:28:08He's still getting doubled as you mentioned Bobby when we were texting
00:28:12But he's able to just kind of see his way through everything and he got the ball out of his hands super quick
00:28:17Tonight I felt like every time the pressure was coming. He was feeling it. He was sensing it
00:28:22He was kind of waiting and a second somebody came over. He'd kick it. He moved it fast. He made great passes his length
00:28:30Being disruptive in passing lanes and the defense that he was playing especially in that second quarter
00:28:35They went on the 19-0 run was just beautiful and I hate to say it Bobby
00:28:39But I'm gonna do it though
00:28:40Maybe the most fun two-man game that we have on this team right now is Tatum Tatum and Luke. Oh
00:28:47Love these guys
00:28:50Love them. I'll punt on that one because I don't want to veer that in the corner direction
00:28:56But I love
00:28:59Yeah, I
00:29:01Love on the Tatum piece
00:29:03Yeah, I think like what was he 5 of 13 from 3?
00:29:06So it's not you know, it's not like he was you know lights out
00:29:09But you could just tell that whatever it is that we saw during the Olympics and it's very
00:29:13season
00:29:14Yeah, it was just yeah
00:29:16He started three of six and he took some tough ones down the stretch there
00:29:18I feel like he always takes like one or two ones that are like have a very low chance of going in that skew his
00:29:21Numbers a bit
00:29:23But yeah, he looked I thought he just looked very solid
00:29:25He looked very solid across the board through his you know
00:29:27Somewhat limited preseason showings and I think it just goes to show you you know
00:29:30He was he was just in an uncomfortable situation in the Olympics. So you could just see all over his face
00:29:34He didn't know who to be able to do like we talked so much about situations and guys struggling when they come in
00:29:39You know like the shaper sets of the world and have limited shots
00:29:42I think it was just something that he had never experienced before and it probably wasn't so much that he had like a mechanical
00:29:47Overhaul and more so just like being back in the environment that he's used to though
00:29:51I see that light differences though. We've noticed but I mean, I thought he looked just really solid across the board and
00:29:58Jalen's looked really good through preseason
00:29:59I thought he had a pretty tough third quarter there that kind of derailed them
00:30:02But generally speaking they've both been like they've seemed like they've both taken positive
00:30:06Orange took it to him there Barnes look great tonight Jalen looked like he was all set with the preseason
00:30:13Tonight, you know like because he had been playing well, and he'd been passing the ball really well
00:30:17I'm doing a lot of different things, but he looked he looked like he wasn't interested in playing defense tonight or really
00:30:24You know part of this that that whole starting unit was rough with what you know, Horford was rusty
00:30:30Jalen was checked out and white couldn't shoot at all
00:30:33And those guys were like a combined minus 70 between the three of them, you know, they did, you know
00:30:38They had a they didn't they didn't fare. Well, it was Tatum and the bench that kept these guys alive
00:30:45Those are the only two guys in late white and Tatum
00:30:48You just got to get back to basics get back to what he knows
00:30:50He's you know, the the guy or you know player one on on this team and he doesn't have to think about the Olympics
00:30:57the whole like national
00:31:00Spotlight of the playoffs and the and the NBA Finals are behind, you know, they're gonna raise the banner on Tuesday and then
00:31:07Hopefully they realize and find out that none of that matters anymore. Yeah, it's it's what have you done?
00:31:12It's always gonna be what have you done for me lately, especially in Boston?
00:31:14So they'll find that out quickly if things start off slow and if they struggle
00:31:19But if they just play the game if he just plays his game and again
00:31:23That outside shot ticks up a little bit and and it doesn't look like he's you know, forcing it or overthinking it
00:31:29and he's not
00:31:31obsessed or or or you know
00:31:34paying too much attention to what
00:31:36people like us or the media or the national media Stephen a Smith and all those guys are saying if he can just focus on
00:31:43The game he'll be fine. I
00:31:45Mean, that's not a hot take. I mean, he's one of the best players in the league
00:31:48He just has to I think he just has to remind himself about that
00:31:52And he enters this year John
00:31:55Eighth ninth depending on what list you're looking at here in terms MVP odds. So I
00:32:03Did the look the low?
00:32:05Perception of him from the summer. It's so crazy it coming off what he did and John thinks that's accurate eyes he made I
00:32:13Mean it's
00:32:17You think you should be behind one banyama
00:32:20I
00:32:21Think I think by the end of this year Wembley is gonna be a top three player probably
00:32:26I actually thought about betting Wembley as well
00:32:28You're even higher than me item at seven, but I don't think he's I think I think Wendy's a top five MVP finishers here
00:32:34I really do. I think he's gonna
00:32:36I think this is the last year
00:32:38We're like not talking about him as maybe the best player in the NBA like I I think by next year
00:32:43The conversation is completely different and we're like, what are what are what rules?
00:32:47We have to change now exactly like how do we have to change all of the basketball rules because of Wembley now?
00:32:53Like you don't think Chris Paul. We're not far away from that. Yeah 80 lobs a game
00:32:58I mean Chris Paul is a nice addition there, but they need more
00:33:02Yeah, whatever. That's two different topics like point is he's gonna he's gonna continue to have MVP
00:33:10Conversations and I hope Tatum doesn't want to have him either. I honestly like
00:33:14No, I'm surprised he's that low
00:33:16I mean remember who the leader in that in that department was to start the last couple years here
00:33:21So that could happen again. I think he's gonna get off to a hot start
00:33:24I like how the shot looks the passing adds a new layer to that and as you mentioned Johnny seeing the double teams
00:33:30Again, and that's gonna only I think boost his effectiveness by being able to get other guys involved there
00:33:36So I like where he's at. You mentioned Cornette. I
00:33:39Really like the fit with the starters like I think it accentuates Tatum accentuates
00:33:45but accentuates everybody because Cornett's just looking to pass out there and
00:33:49He actually draws defenders away from other guys and we've talked about in the past
00:33:53Finding ways to actually draw attention away from Tatum would be helpful for him at least his percentages
00:34:00So I'm there, you know, I'll give Karaus the credit. It wasn't my idea, but I
00:34:04Would start Cornett Tuesday with the starters and bring out off the bench
00:34:10Why and is that Bobby is that thinking about what the fit is like you think I like the fit with the lineup?
00:34:16Or is it just thinking about how long-term there it is. No, it's a little bit of everything
00:34:20It's it's the fit you look great in the preseason with that group. By the way, another really good game tonight from Luke
00:34:27Bench unit you can go Tillman Horford. I think that's back to our Walsh discussion
00:34:32I knew why I was I should have known Bobby's been like wow Horford looked really bad tonight. He looked really bad
00:34:39Stacking stacking the bricks of his argument here
00:34:47Now I get it Bobby you were just setting us up for this
00:34:50I like the Horford Tillman combination off the bench and then three it naturally scales back Horford's minutes
00:34:57and then you could actually close with Horford, so I
00:35:01Think it just makes sense across the board
00:35:03I
00:35:05Think it's gonna come down to matchups too because it's the
00:35:09Thing yeah, like it with Horford and being able to kind of get out on guys in the perimeter
00:35:14Do you want to have one of those matchups? No, I'm sure you were going there
00:35:17but like you want to have one of those matchups where Luke gets put in a pick-and-roll over and over and over and over again because
00:35:22That's just what the other team does and plays his way opening night
00:35:26Opening night. I'll put him on Josh Hart and you don't have to worry about that. Okay, anyway
00:35:33You think they're not hunting him with Brian? Anyway, go ahead Noah
00:35:36No, I was just gonna say I'm on the Al Horford piece
00:35:39Like this is the same Al Horford that was pivotal to the championship
00:35:43It's been a few months like I don't think that he had the type of offseason some of these guys did he's made it clear
00:35:47He spent the offseason with family and friends and he's just ramping up. That's why he didn't play
00:35:52So we right now we have no reason to think that this is not the same Al Horford that it it was in May and June
00:35:58And that Al Horford was one of the key pieces to the Celtics winning this championship
00:36:02So at the end of the day with Luke Hornet wasn't in the playoff rotation largely for a lot of big stretches
00:36:07He really wasn't in the rotation
00:36:08And so there are matchup reasons for that like I've really been impressed by Luke and everything that we've seen from him so far
00:36:14But I think it's still important to keep in mind like
00:36:17Playoffs wise like there was one guy that was on the floor
00:36:2035 minutes a night and one guy wasn't really playing and those same
00:36:23Considerations are gonna come into effect again this year and some matchups and but when you can save his leg talking regular season
00:36:30Playoff time will be poor Zenga starting
00:36:33right, but no the point Noah's making is there's a reason why Al Horford is playing those minutes because he's better at basketball and like
00:36:40He fits what they do and like it makes more
00:36:43Basketball sense to play him and regardless. It's a regular season. It's still a basketball game. So like this is Bobby's
00:36:51Bobby's drew off the bench take this is cuz I'll tell you right
00:36:55I
00:37:05Wanted them to keep double big but also even hit work, but it began with maybe poor Zingas comes off the bench
00:37:12Well, I also didn't know if Horford could move to the bench effectively and that worked out again with
00:37:17Position issue and then it rotated to holiday all in an attempt to keep Horford in there
00:37:23So the agendas are real here and you guys I get what you're saying
00:37:28You guys think I have agendas
00:37:33Yeah, go ahead
00:37:34Just I think the owl off the bench thing worked last year and that's kind of what you're leaning on Bobby's my understanding at least
00:37:40like there was questions around whether I'll how I'll even felt about going off the bench and
00:37:45Whether that was gonna impact him and he embraced it
00:37:48But I also think that he showed that when it mattered, you know
00:37:51He was very much capable of playing serious minutes and being a starter. So I like the idea
00:37:55I mean, I think there's a reason why he didn't play in the first four preseason games
00:37:57like they're trying to do what they can to save his legs and if you know, probably the
00:38:02Saving Al a long term is gonna go above who's the better fit a lot of the nights or like maybe it's maybe we'd rather
00:38:09Have Al play a little bit more minutes
00:38:10But we're gonna have Luke because a long term at age 38 matters more
00:38:13So I can be sold on this idea that Al comes off the bench
00:38:16but I think there's still gonna be moments or certain games where
00:38:21You know, it's gonna bite them more. But you know, he's also improved a lot. Like I think a lot of that
00:38:29Yeah, like I think the people just bigger guys out there just bigger guys will beat smaller guys just put five bigs
00:38:36I like that idea
00:38:37Bobby, I don't I'll put it this way. I don't hate it. I just I don't see it. I think it was good
00:38:43I I have some doubts too. It's just
00:38:47We're one week. We're one week from open and this isn't a Horford discussion Horford's gonna be fine
00:38:52Like Noah said, but we are one week from opening night
00:38:56He's just sort of getting his legs under him. There's a practice or two left
00:39:02It's Carl Anthony Towns
00:39:05The do you really want to throw him into 30 35 minutes that first night and it just full go
00:39:11I think you just want to move very slowly with him and
00:39:15There's gonna be a handful of back-to-backs early where Cornette has to start anyway
00:39:19So why not just keep them and I'm not saying play Cornette 30 back to that thing from last year
00:39:24It's same with drew. I wasn't saying play drew 20 minutes and play Horford 30
00:39:29Just start Luke have them set the tone with that group the starters
00:39:41That's
00:39:44That's called trying too hard
00:39:51Legitimately and convinced that holiday could come off the bench at least John saw it was that Luke wasn't gonna play at all
00:39:57I just do that
00:40:01Here oh we had we had a million. Yeah, I think Jimmy's was that poor Zingas will rescue a kid from a hospital
00:40:08burning hospital
00:40:10Yeah
00:40:12Yeah, first sources that that was close to happening. So that wasn't
00:40:18Yeah
00:40:20No, you will have to make a few this year as well
00:40:23The goal of against my religion and by the way the goal of these and Bobby still hasn't figured it out
00:40:29We've tried to explain it to him and just way every year
00:40:31The goal of them is they're not supposed to really become right but you're supposed to be able to make your point
00:40:37while making a ridiculous
00:40:40Take
00:40:48Yeah, the assignment is everyone has to come up with a hit with three or four and
00:40:52Maybe could you see this happen? I'm all out there. Yeah, could I see it happening? Yes
00:40:56It's not and they have to be bold. It can't be like Jason Tatum will average 26
00:41:02Because that's what like
00:41:04Joe sway and charade do and it's not bold enough. Yeah, Jimmy's goes Jimmy's goes to the like impossible and theatrical
00:41:12you know, like you know, like
00:41:15Jimmy one of yours is Jalen Brown. It's finals MVP
00:41:18Yeah, I got it. I got that. There you go. They got it
00:41:21I also said two years ago that the team would forget Derek White on a on a road trip like the here
00:41:28They were just bored the flight without
00:41:30Because he was
00:41:32Because he was gonna be so unimportant to the team
00:41:35So I was way wrong on why they forgot him, but they did leave him behind. It was the year it was after
00:41:41He had a lot of injury. Yeah, he and I he got like his ear ear burst his ear burst
00:41:47And they had to leave him behind on the flight. So I kind of wait that one, right?
00:41:50Is that where we got first? Is that where burst entered the?
00:41:54No
00:42:01Stitches it burst. I thought it said Burris. What was the real word?
00:42:15No, he said in the presser his hand busted open or something and I said his hand burst
00:42:20Yeah, it caused a panic or no. It was split open his hand split open because he had the cut
00:42:25At some point I would like to find out what actually happened there, but that's this is fine
00:42:29Yeah, that is still a mysterious one. I'm just stressed out to come up with three hot takes. Oh, maybe more
00:42:36Predictions they're not hot takes their bold predictions. I'll be right back his hand first. Jimmy. You can't do that
00:42:44Yeah, that's not how it works remove him
00:42:47Okay, that's how it works for me. You can't just leave like that
00:42:52You can't just leave like that, all right, well Jimmy's gone

00:44:17Garden, we are back. I believe still no Jimmy, but we can continue on
00:44:22We've hit on a few of these people but I didn't want to get your take going all the way back to Abu Dhabi and
00:44:30Through here in these games backstage side
00:44:33What or who impressed you the most and that doesn't have to necessarily be a player it could be anything
00:44:39You know about the team right now. What what what has impressed you the most or stood out? I
00:44:46Would say I think Peyton Pritchard has impressed me the most
00:44:50But it wasn't a surprise. I think the the surprise that impressed me the most was Jordan Walsh
00:44:55Just because I never would have seen it coming on this turnaround after being in summer league for two weeks and seeing no none of
00:45:02This so that was the most positive surprise
00:45:04But I think still like just seeing the way that Peyton Pritchard could control the game when he's on the floor
00:45:09When all these other guys are out like it really makes you feel hopeful about what he can do in this league and I
00:45:14Famously said last year. I think he has an all-star ceiling. I was attacked for it
00:45:19I think now it's still a hot take but it's slightly less hot. So
00:45:22Maybe maybe it's still really hot. Maybe I'm what's hotter six-man or all-star
00:45:27Well, nothing this year. I think six man is just not gonna work unless he he needs to score more points
00:45:31This is just sense of being a points competition six man of the year
00:45:35But I think what can he achieve in his career like he could easily achieve six man of the year at some point
00:45:40In the right situation. Yeah, we talked about it last last show
00:45:45I believe Noah that or last time I was on I think I kind of you know
00:45:49Knocked it around like if he were on a losing team right now playing starters minutes
00:45:55Would he be scoring 17 18 19 20 points per game?
00:45:57I think it's very possible. Like I think that's his skill set right now
00:46:01Maybe it would be in coming off of bench role
00:46:03But he could absolutely be that type of player somewhere else where his role was you get out there
00:46:08You know tonight may get out there fire, you know, right? Yeah, they almost traded Pritchard and gallon Ari for perdo that year. Yeah, and
00:46:17Who knows where Pritchard's career would have gone from there? Maybe starts in San Antonio and it is close to 20-point guy
00:46:24So for you for you Walsh Noah, what about you Bobby?
00:46:28I
00:46:30Think that bench collective as a whole Pritchard certainly
00:46:33Hauser was really good
00:46:36Shooting to shooting fade away doing stuff. We don't see him do to that's what's that's what's neat about Hauser, right?
00:46:42Yeah, he didn't play tonight. Did he but no but that like that dribble that dribble fade away
00:46:47The other game was was ridiculous and it looked like he's been doing it his whole life
00:46:53Yeah, and he came off that extension too. So you want to see him add layers to his game?
00:46:57We've making a little bit more money and you know
00:46:59You start to make some decisions into the future who's gonna fit in here and if he can do more stuff
00:47:03That's super important for this team
00:47:06Cornett obviously as I mentioned, but I'll go Tillman who I had
00:47:11Concerns about going into this year. I didn't love the fit last year and he ended up stashed away on the bench
00:47:17I think Jimmy brought him up earlier right start six for eight from three. He missed three shots tonight, I think but
00:47:24whatever
00:47:25The threes there
00:47:27to start he looks
00:47:30Better moving around after that surgery. He definitely isn't as plotting or
00:47:35Burdensome him and moving around and the defensive numbers weren't great in Boston last year given some of the knee
00:47:41Issues he was dealing with and so you factor all that together shots are falling even use them inside a little bit
00:47:48I felt like his off ball activity just looked much more in line and Joe's praised him a lot to this preseason
00:47:54They've obviously used him. He was the first big off the bench behind Horford tonight
00:47:58So I'm much higher on him coming into this year than I was a year ago where it really didn't look like he
00:48:04Fit in great, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Is he gonna shoot amazing from three?
00:48:09that still hasn't been there for him in his career, but
00:48:13It was this preseason and they're gonna encourage him to shoot and shoot more than he ever has before and he'll obviously
00:48:19Get those minutes off the bench for all the Walsh debate we had here
00:48:22I think it's pretty clear Tillman at the four is much more likely than Walsh playing
00:48:28Significant at regular minutes. Yeah, if I could change the who to what mine would kind of be the
00:48:35the jet like I think almost like the Missoula led vibe around the team of like I don't sense I like I
00:48:43don't
00:48:44You'll see what happens in the regular season
00:48:47I don't for a second believe that this team's gonna just kind of cruise a little bit because they've got the championship and
00:48:54Have a too cool for school attitude. I think exactly the opposite
00:48:58I I'm feeling exactly the opposite and this to me
00:49:01I've made all of the
00:49:022008 comps with the roster construction with this team and people coming in here and once they learn to
00:49:07Let go of whatever it is that they thought was important once in their lives and kind of you know
00:49:12You know bond together for it for the greater good here that that's when they'll you know, you know
00:49:18Get to where they where they need to get to
00:49:21I'm gonna I'm gonna continue that comparison and say that makes our that next year following 2008 that
00:49:272009 team was the best team I've ever seen
00:49:31and was
00:49:32better than the year before and I
00:49:36Do think that that's a possibility with this team just the like I said that the kind of early vibes
00:49:42I'm getting off of that like I do think that they're feeding off of kind of Joe's
00:49:46Insanity and craziness and focus and I think that's gonna keep them focused
00:49:50I've always thought the adults in the room help keep people focused as well with the holiday and whatever
00:49:56So just how locked in they look even for preseason
00:50:00It has been really really impressive to me where they could just totally have
00:50:06Had a different kind of yeah
00:50:08We'll get through it and like I'll see you guys in the conference finals sort of vibe because that's what it feels like they're not
00:50:13Gonna play a meaningful game until the conference finals
00:50:16But I don't I don't get I don't get that vibe with them at all
00:50:22So that's kind of that's kind of my thing Jimmy any standouts for the preseason for you
00:50:26Well, we talked about Pritchard already a little bit. I really like I like, you know
00:50:31I think Pritchard's gonna have a good a good showing that was part of that one. Mostly. I mean, I think
00:50:36We've all talked about
00:50:38Tatum having a solid preseason, but I wouldn't say that, you know again when it comes to the starters
00:50:43I don't really put them much. I don't really care a whole lot about how they look in the preseason
00:50:47I look at like the bench we talked about Walsh possibly mate being able to be a guy that could jump into that
00:50:53fringe rotation role
00:50:57Yeah, those are probably some of the guys that stand out to me more than well
00:51:01Definitely the biggest surprise
00:51:03Cornet, I think it falls into the category similar to a picture where it's like a guy where you're like, okay, I can see this guy
00:51:11Being able to contribute, you know when called upon sort of sort of he's in that bucket for me
00:51:16So I John I'll just echo what you were saying
00:51:19I think the mindset piece like especially in Abu Dhabi then coming back to TD Garden and like different rotations different combinations
00:51:26Like there was a level of focus and it's not just what we saw
00:51:29But also everything we're hearing out of training camp
00:51:31I wrote a story about this for SB nation
00:51:33But like Mike Malone was complaining about how all his team's out of shape and like guys are conditioned, you know
00:51:37Yeah
00:51:38we got a contrast there every single every single quote and every single interview we've had out of
00:51:43training camp and
00:51:45Media and all that has been like great day great practice and Al Horford somebody that will tell us like it wasn't a great day
00:51:50We weren't super focused and we've only heard positive things and Joe's been really impressed
00:51:55So I think that's all those are all good signs and that's that's kind of like a mindset thing that you can just pick up
00:52:00From being around the team over the last month that mentally everybody's in kind of a good place here
00:52:04yeah, and I think it's like, you know, all of the bullshit aside with the you know,
00:52:11The national media getting bored and deciding that you know
00:52:14They were gonna you know
00:52:16pick
00:52:16Dallas or pick somebody to beat the Celtics because they were bored with the Celtics dominance all year long and we're just looking to stir
00:52:22things up I think really skewed the perception of like
00:52:26You know who these guys were all year long, which was a legit
00:52:30tier above the entire
00:52:33rest of the league like a full tier above the next wave of teams and that's who they were all year long and
00:52:41They're kind of entering that again. And I think you know, I think Stan Van Gundy had a quote today
00:52:47Was that was that recent? Did you guys read that?
00:52:49Yeah, Gary tweeted it today, yeah
00:52:52Gary Gary had tweeted it and it was uh, that's probably the best NBA roster I've seen
00:52:58And I think that's gonna kind of sink in for people a little bit this year is like
00:53:02Oh, these guys are really fucking good
00:53:05You know like all over the place and we're sitting here and talking about like the bench players who were
00:53:11surprisingly pretty good last year when we thought it'd be an area of weakness all got a
00:53:15Little bit better or look a little bit like they're fitting into their roles even more like well
00:53:20Who haven't you said something positive about coming off of the bench last year Hauser?
00:53:25Pritchard Cornette and Tillman all of the people who you expect to be playing those minutes outside of the starting six
00:53:32All have shown something which is Tillman, you know, he's a you know
00:53:36Knocking down some of the threes Cornette has had a fabulous preseason Pritchard
00:53:40We just gushed all over, you know the beginning of the show and even Hauser
00:53:43So like everybody's ticking up a little bit Brown for those couple of games looked ridiculously good
00:53:48I thought Tatum looked, you know phenomenal again tonight
00:53:51I'm never gonna worry a second of my life about how Derek white or drew holiday play
00:53:56In a game and really you're talking about the poor Zingas wild card of like
00:54:02All right, if he comes back and he's himself again, it's it's just it's it's really stupid impossible. Yeah
00:54:08Yeah, and so again the way they look very impossibly good. Yeah
00:54:12I mean, it's it is an embarrassment of riches
00:54:15They're so ridiculously far ahead of everybody else
00:54:18Even with all of the additions everybody made that goes back to my third center comment
00:54:23And and you're not even thinking so much about that for Zingas absence right now
00:54:27Because of how all those guys play I even thought hey
00:54:31But that's fine
00:54:33No, I mean the depth on this team is so absurd. You think we didn't make third center t-shirts Bobby wants in the first center
00:54:42I
00:54:45Mean that's your third center and you're getting this
00:54:50Tillman's your fourth center and you're getting great minutes out of him
00:54:53And then you go all the way down the Cato who had his ups and downs this preseason
00:54:57But looks like he's going in a good direction. So that was a big concern of mine going into this year
00:55:02I felt like people are actually under rating a little bit the poor Zingas absence and how long it is and
00:55:07You're trying to manage Horford at the same time
00:55:09but I come out of the preseason less concerned about it just given how those other guys played there and the
00:55:15Variety that they have at that position again. They got so fortunate. I talked to Luke the other day
00:55:20He said he had don't ever
00:55:24Just don't ever change I talked to Luke the other day
00:55:28he
00:55:30He said he had multiple
00:55:32Really good offers and free agency to leave the Celtics and he just couldn't do it. He'd want to stay
00:55:38He wanted to keep playing with these guys
00:55:40Whole roster. He knew the whole roster was gonna be pretty much back. So you could have lost Cornette this summer
00:55:46I don't know what the deal was with Tillman
00:55:48he signs for two years at the minimum feels like he could have probably got more and
00:55:53All these guys just decided to stay and if you think you even lose one of these guys they extended Pritchard
00:55:58For six million a year for three more years
00:56:01They had some good foresight of suspension even that Hauser extensions looking pretty good now, too
00:56:06So that matters now in this league and we're gonna get into eventually like who's staying who's going with the tax and all that kind
00:56:13Of stuff but for this year to have this depth to have this much like you've said no
00:56:17It's it's unprecedented the amount of guys that bring it back from last year. And that's why you hit the ground running like this
00:56:23It's the same team
00:56:24Yeah, I think also honestly like the backup bigs are gonna end up aging similar to how like the Pritchard Hauser
00:56:32Convo ended up like I think people were worried about the lack of scoring on the bench previously
00:56:36Like are they enough these guys have these clear flaws?
00:56:38I think this group is gonna surprise people and they're already starting to but there's a reason why the Celtics went out and made sure
00:56:44To resign but all three of them like I don't think it's you know
00:56:47You can go out in the open market and try to recruit on a drum and if you want like there's there's other guys out
00:56:51There and their intention and their goal was to get guys that they trusted and that they are familiar with the system
00:56:56And I think that they were really happy they could bring them all back
00:56:58So I think it's not gonna be like any of them are going off on the statute
00:57:02but I think all three of them they
00:57:04Believe it and they rely, you know
00:57:05They think we'll understand those schemes and there won't be like a major drop-off when they when they come into the game
00:57:10Yeah, the reason they signed them. It was screw you dad. I'm gonna do what I want. It's my team. Yeah
00:57:17I don't care if it's your money screw you I'm signing
00:57:21Yeah, you say it's my birthday
00:57:26Because I can sign Luke and I'm signing Luke yeah
00:57:34Wow, this would be good I don't know about the name but that'd be a good podcast
00:57:44Because some of these have just been killing me and then you you pick the best one
00:57:47I
00:57:50Make that happen
00:57:55Finals didn't you didn't you have Luke for the find the finals you did a little sit down. Yeah. Yeah, we had Luke on a couple times
00:58:02Yeah
00:58:05Let's he would let's uh, let's finish this conversation quickly
00:58:10With the last bit of business which we alluded to off the top
00:58:16Is the Lonnie Walker situation just make your predictions. What do you think happens here Bobby last?
00:58:22Noah, what do you think happens here? What do you think will happen?
00:58:26What do you think should happen with the situation for everybody at home?
00:58:29Who doesn't know Lonnie Walker if they do sign him to a deal might was gonna cost a little bit of extra tax dollars
00:58:37Here if he gets a guaranteed deal, he's on like some weird made-up thing that didn't exist before he signed it type of contract
00:58:46Exhibit 10. What's it called?
00:58:49Exhibit 10. Yeah, exhibit 10 contract totally made up, but he's on one
00:58:54So he'd have to he might have to accept assignment to Maine and kind of ride that shuttle back and forth
00:59:00This season. I wonder if he's the best player to ever play on exhibit 10. I don't know but I mean or
00:59:07So what what will they do what should they do Noah I
00:59:11Think that it's I would be stunned if he didn't start that he's in in Maine just walk off what we're hearing
00:59:16This is not like what I want or my my take from watching him play
00:59:20I think that all the reports are leaning towards him being in Maine to begin
00:59:25What should happen? I
00:59:29Mean he should be on a guaranteed deal somewhere, but clearly that hasn't happened
00:59:33so I don't think it's the end of the world for him to start in Maine and to show that he can commit and that
00:59:37He can produce there and you can stay sick to the schedule and all that and I don't know
00:59:42I can't I don't know if I can say what should happen
00:59:44But I don't think that he's gonna I think he's gonna start in Maine almost for sure. I'd be I would be
00:59:50Predictions if you can't even tell me what you think they should do with Lonnie Walker
00:59:54You put on your GM hat and you do it. Okay
01:00:00I mean you pop honestly what you probably do is clear a spot for him by getting rid of somebody else
01:00:07I can't call for anybody to go
01:00:14I
01:00:16Think that he can contribute right now more so than other guys on this team
01:00:20And this is the team that could have a limited championship window
01:00:22And so I think you you pick the guy that can help you right now, but it's not it's not as simple as that
01:00:27So, I don't know if they shopped in Springer around. I don't know if there's a market for him, you know
01:00:34Information
01:00:38Springer or Walker
01:00:39No that that whole thing's ridiculous and I saw people saying if you want to keep them sign them pay the tax
01:00:46It's one year
01:00:48That's that's absurd and I get that there's other things involved here, too
01:00:53You know, you're looking to see him play consistently you're looking to see him adapt to the system
01:00:58but if you like him and I've said this from the start and I agree that he's probably gonna end up in Maine if
01:01:03You really like him and want him here don't fool around with it
01:01:07And I know that like the longer he stays in Maine you save some money there and that it's all prorated, right?
01:01:13So if you keep them for the whole year, it's 11 million if you keep them for half the year
01:01:18It's like that's five and a half million
01:01:20I
01:01:20don't want to see him in Maine first they want to see that he can contribute and that he can stay consistent and
01:01:26Save some money by not having him on the payroll in November
01:01:29And if everything goes as best as it possibly can I do think there's a spot for him down the road here, right?
01:01:34But I don't think I don't think it's about him or him or Springer
01:01:37Like I don't I don't think that's how you look at it
01:01:40If you want him here and maybe there's some agreement behind the scenes that he will
01:01:44You know spend that amount of time up there and then eventually get that opportunity if all goes well
01:01:48I think that's pretty evident that he wants to be here if he's gonna do that
01:01:52but I don't think it's
01:01:55Try to save a couple million, but you've spent 500 million on this roster already if you really want this guy
01:02:01You're not trading Springer and attaching picks to him or whatever. You got to do there to save a couple million bucks
01:02:07And I would agree with that. I don't think you would go out of your way and attach picks and yeah
01:02:11That's why I don't think it's really possible right now
01:02:12So at an ideal world like you just had another spot
01:02:14But I think you just sent him to Maine and to see that he can be consistent and that you know
01:02:18It's like like what they did with a lot of guys
01:02:24No, because if he goes to Maine anybody can pluck him and put him on the roster, so you're putting there you're
01:02:30I know that what I'm saying is what I'm saying is at this point if you're doing it with the idea that like and when
01:02:37We're ready for him. Like if yeah, he's close to being ready for the best team in basketball
01:02:43That has to mean that anybody who's seen him play a little bit this preseason and watches him go up to Maine and score 50
01:02:50Points a night, you know for a week or two the likelihood of him still being there for too long
01:02:56I think is small ish and I could put up monstrous numbers
01:03:00I understand like it's not like you're not gonna lose like this isn't like oh my god
01:03:05the championship window has closed now that someone has pried Lonnie Walker away from us, but like
01:03:11It's as simple as if he's good enough to make the team
01:03:14He should make the team if you think you can help you should make he should help you
01:03:18I don't think you should be factoring other stuff in but it does factor in I don't think the Celtics Celtics aren't immune to it
01:03:24We are watching the Denver Nuggets give up on a player of you know of KCP's caliber for money
01:03:32So that's the question John you believe. Yeah. I mean, this is a ridic not enough
01:03:36This is a ridiculous luxury item where like again if Brad's like hey guys
01:03:42So what do you think and they're like how much it's gonna cost us an extra 10 mil
01:03:48How much are you gonna play?
01:03:51Maybe a few minutes here and there but he's good to have just in case you'd be like
01:03:55Can we live without like do we really have to have them?
01:03:58So like yeah, the money the money the money thing is real. But what I don't want to do
01:04:04Like I don't want to disparage Lonnie Walker just to just to make a case for white like oh
01:04:11They don't need him and this and that
01:04:13Sure, you why wouldn't you want to prove an NBA scorer?
01:04:16Sitting there who could come in and give you buckets, especially if you have
01:04:20Yeah, who's still young? Who's a former first-round pick?
01:04:23I think it's a no-brainer that he should obviously be on the roster
01:04:27But if it doesn't happen, I don't think it's it's not gonna I don't think it
01:04:35It doesn't tank that you know the the season but I think I think not only is in here
01:04:40I think he's I think he's in that I think he's he's a key
01:04:43I think he's in play for in the 10, you know, like I think he could push for minutes. I think it's possible
01:04:49So, I don't know
01:04:52If Brad Stephens wasn't so clear that he is going to keep that 15th spot open
01:04:56I would be saying like let's get in let's you know, they should they should sign him
01:05:01This week, but it would go against everything. We've heard about this team both on the record both talking to people like
01:05:08There's no, you know, that's that's my that's why I land on that. I don't know why he's so insistent upon that
01:05:12I didn't understand why they didn't convert Kata earlier last year when it was clear
01:05:16He was spending all of his time in Boston. It was like why just it was not a guaranteed spot
01:05:20Yeah, so I think that this is gonna be their approach again
01:05:24so the difference
01:05:26Yeah, the difference with Kate is he was on a two-way deal see the way 50 games before doing it
01:05:32You controlled Kate is right you you're it's not it's not as much of a risk here with Walker going
01:05:38So you think the Celtics knew I mean they obviously knew what it was gonna cost to keep him
01:05:45When they brought him on to the roster for this stretch, I mean it was there
01:05:51Zarin and that I think he wanted to be here Jimmy, but why?
01:05:55Because it's a great system his stock hit rock-bottom. He knows a couple guys on the team Derek and drew
01:06:02So I think he felt like he could redeem himself here
01:06:06It goes a situation and go, okay, so you're saying he would be willing to go to me I'm saying
01:06:10But why would it go to a situation where so unlikely for him to get signed unless the Celtics?
01:06:18Think that there is an opportunity for him to get signed. Well, that's what like why would him or his age?
01:06:24I think they could be down the line
01:06:27Someone has to explain to me what it is. He's gonna learn in Maine though. That's the thing
01:06:31I think he's already better than he's a seventh-year NBA veteran like
01:06:37We're not talking about an all-star or starting caliber player, but it's a guy who's played 20 plus minutes a night for in it for
01:06:45NBA team scoring in double figures like this is not the type of guy you send to Maine typically, right?
01:06:52Like he's definitely he's not 22, you know, he's he's he's played seven years
01:06:59You're in the league like he'd rather go to to probably Europe or something who knows what he wants
01:07:06I think he likes it here because of the guys I just find it strange to think like
01:07:10Go there and learn the system or benefit from being in Maine. I don't think he benefits at all
01:07:13He's just biding his time until I don't think there's zero benefit John. I mean, he still seems pretty zero benefit
01:07:20I think zero, you know, it's just simply a
01:07:24Comparison go down there and we'll bring you up in a little bit, you know
01:07:29Look, yeah
01:07:30No
01:07:30It won't be a long he's experienced a great deal more success than Luke had in his career before Luke got here
01:07:36Luke was fringy
01:07:37End of the roster on on not great teams and Lonnie Walker has been a contributor on not great teams
01:07:44They definitely have a different career path. You know, like I said is 20 20 something minutes a game 11 12 points per game
01:07:51That is a different. He's a different category of players. I I don't fully understand the main thing. I don't I don't understand it
01:07:56Sorry Luke. Sorry Luke
01:08:00I
01:08:05Think that they should listen, I think they should fork over the money because I don't give a shit if
01:08:13Dad or whoever has to spend the biggest motivator here. There's no doubt
01:08:18That is it. Otherwise it'd be on the team. There wouldn't be there wouldn't be a question about it. He's better than anybody
01:08:23It's a real thing
01:08:24I mean when you're spending
01:08:25This much money on this roster and you're about to spend the amount you are next year on it and you're losing money as the report
01:08:32Put out there. Are you paying 11 million dollars to a guy who has zero minutes right now?
01:08:37Like let's be real opening night. Holy healthy rosters zero minutes. I would keep him over Springer
01:08:43Sorry, no, I would I would keep him over if you have to I wouldn't I wouldn't lose
01:08:48Oh, it's a no-brainer if you could get off springer and keep Walker. I don't I I'm not going that far
01:08:53I still think there's a little something there with Springer, especially
01:09:06So, what are you holding on to you already know you've already seen more out of Lonnie Walker and
01:09:11Again, these are players that you want to come in and give you what you know
01:09:15They can give you you don't know what Springer can give you if anything, you know Walker can
01:09:20I
01:09:21Mean just just to be fair though
01:09:23like Jaden Springer had played one game in summer league was the best player on the floor was impressive on both ends and
01:09:30While other guys that now we feel really good about struggled, right?
01:09:33and so he had a tough stretch there on TD Garden on Sunday where Joe wasn't happy with him and some things went awry and
01:09:39It wasn't disastrous, right? So I don't want to get like carried away here, but
01:09:45He didn't take a charge that's what it was that's what I saw then John tweeted
01:09:51I saw that he was annoyed with
01:09:56Already like balled out in the league at certain points like you can just look at his
01:10:03Do that
01:10:07Put him on the team the fact that he's capable of doing it
01:10:10I know that that's why I keep going back to the thing with John and we disagree on it
01:10:14He can alter his game to do things that would actually be useful for they did
01:10:18He's not gonna be able to play with the ball in his hands and take ten shots and cook them out there
01:10:23That's he's not gonna have that opportunity here. So he's got to play a different way if he's gonna fit in
01:10:28No, he just said he's just bench scoring. He's just bench scoring. He's not gonna fit in why the who doesn't want bench scoring?
01:10:36They have bench scoring. Come on
01:10:39Well, what Joe said the other night was that what impressed him about Lonnie Walker is not the things that you guys
01:10:45With us
01:10:47Keep reminding us that he's smarter than we are. But like, of course, it's the scoring like I know Joe's gonna say that
01:10:52But anyway, go ahead
01:10:54No, I feel you John
01:10:55But like I also think that there's there are things that like he's not gonna be willing to sacrifice for a bucket and I'll bring
01:11:01up Malcolm Brogdon who was before my time covering the team
01:11:04But I felt like there's a lot of times or Malcolm Brogdon was sat you was you were sacrificing other things
01:11:08By having him on the floor whether defensively or passing or playmaking in the name of bench points
01:11:14and I don't know that that's always
01:11:15the sacrifice that you want to make when you have a team with so many stars and with already so many shots to go around so
01:11:20I feel like you don't want us you don't want to sacrifice other things just because Lonnie Walker can score
01:11:25I don't I think he can I don't know
01:11:26I'm not saying that he's an incapable defender or anything like that
01:11:29Not at all
01:11:29But I get what I get the Joe is now looking at other
01:11:33Elements of his game because those are the things that are going to keep him off the floor
01:11:36I know just the scoring is not enough, but it goes both ways
01:11:39It's so funny because when we talk about a player who lacks something
01:11:43Like
01:11:44And that's what's keeping them from playing. I'd like I that's kind of like the reverse of like
01:11:50Everyone who's on the team right now who can't shoot well enough and that's the reason they're not playing
01:11:54So like yeah people coming in off the bench are imperfect players
01:11:57If everybody was a lockdown defender and could create their own shot and score at will
01:12:04They'd be making 30 million dollars a year. We're not having a conversation about him
01:12:08So all of these guys are flawed their role players Lonnie Walker's role is to get buckets not to lock, you know
01:12:13To play defense, you know
01:12:16Sam Hauser has a role Peyton Pritchard has a role like Luke Cornett as much as Bobby loves him doesn't do everything well
01:12:21But his minutes are valuable, you know
01:12:23like when you get down into the guys who are 10 and 11 on your bench like of course, they're gonna have warts but like
01:12:31being able to score the basketball in the NBA is a premium skill set and you know
01:12:38having that on
01:12:40the bench at your disposal is better than
01:12:44You know and again not to crapple over Jaden Springer a guy who might be able to go in and play some pretty okay defense
01:12:50But do literally nothing else for you, you know, like that that's what you're weighing it against
01:12:55You're not weighing it against like what the ideal player would do on this team, right?
01:13:00Are you in your best score off the bench? Okay, let's remember one year ago or even less than a year ago and at the deadline
01:13:08Lonnie Walker was available. No one traded for him
01:13:12They didn't trade for him and they went and traded for Springer. So maybe things changed in that span
01:13:18But I have a hard time thinking that they're gonna move Springer to make room for Walker
01:13:23and I think that's just a little convoluted because at the end of the day and
01:13:28I know you're gonna say John like that's not a reason to not do it
01:13:31But he's not gonna swing whether or not they win the title
01:13:34And so if they feel good about him fitting in and doing the things that they need to do
01:13:39You you'd sign him anyway, and if he's not there yet
01:13:43You send him the main and hope that you can figure it out there and develop it there and maybe it's half a year
01:13:51Because he's not gonna play
01:13:53Why won't he play?
01:13:55There's no minutes available
01:13:58People are in and out of the lineups people have rest days. He could earn some more minutes
01:14:02Yeah, but that's Pritchard Hauser like those guys in front of them
01:14:07Those guys play different positions
01:14:16You're just writing the guy off he could probably be one of your best scores
01:14:19What I find it I find it weird how how we're writing it off as if it's nothing
01:14:23I I think he's clearly one of the best 15 players that they have
01:14:28It doesn't mean he's going to play a lot right and so that's what's
01:14:33Yeah, exactly. He's better than you could go down the current roster right now, and he's probably
01:14:39Better than every bench scorer you have
01:14:42Not Pritchard
01:14:45Pritchard and Hauser score Pritchard and Hauser score in different ways, but Walker
01:14:49He they're more efficient than I just want to say just before it before we end up wrapping this up. I love Lonnie Walker's game
01:14:55I've always loved Lonnie Walker's game when they signed him. I was so excited
01:14:59He's been one of my favorite bench players on another other teams
01:15:02So none of my like hesitancy is coming out of like a lack of appreciating what he can bring to the table
01:15:07It's genuinely like based off reporting and and speaking to people and trying to understand the situation
01:15:12The sense that I've gotten from this team and so if this is not like what my hot take is of like he shouldn't be
01:15:18In Boston, you know, it's it's trying to actually and and I think Bobby got a lot of flack for it early on
01:15:22But he he you know, he was he was doing the math and the full equation of this ecosystem here
01:15:27and you know
01:15:28there was concern around whether
01:15:29Prezinga's injury ends up lasting longer and maybe Xavier Tillman who had knee surgery in July like we don't know how that's gonna hold up
01:15:35When he's playing night in after night out like last year. He really didn't play consecutively nights
01:15:39you know his knee got inflamed so I think part of the
01:15:42concern right now is like there's a lot of question marks with the health of the bigs and
01:15:46That's gonna be the team's priority because that could actually
01:15:49Hurt a lot. It's a good point. Yeah, and Cornette's had his like caps off and you know, he had his surgery
01:15:55Which I don't think is any factor, but a lot of it is like from a team-building standpoint
01:15:58I think the post players is where they're most
01:16:01You know more sensitive because they recognize how quickly that can turn into a major problem and right now they all looked great
01:16:08Prezinga's is on his way coming back Al Horford still seems young all that but that can all change and I think they feel like
01:16:14That's a more volatile part of the roster than the backup scorers
01:16:18yeah, there's no question like
01:16:20the reading the tea leaves
01:16:22It sounds clear. He's not going to get a spot to start the season. It's just it's still a little
01:16:30You know perplexing but the reasoning there I think is sound in the sense that
01:16:35The flexibility of the 15th roster spot and what you may need to do with that
01:16:42Probably, you know supersedes
01:16:44Whatever contribution you think you might get from someone who's filling up a 15th
01:16:49I've said it from the start the positive here is
01:16:52He he isn't going to Maine saying what the hell I'm out of here the first he's going to Maine saying listen
01:16:59My stocks dropped to rock bottom. I gotta do this. I'm gonna do it
01:17:03I'm gonna make the best of it and he seems well, I mean if
01:17:08Chicago or someone comes along I don't even know who it would be and offers them the mid-level or like even a minimum
01:17:14You probably have to take that if you're him
01:17:16But in the meantime if that doesn't come I don't think I actually think it could be a good thing him going to Maine taking
01:17:23That time adjusting and then signing later in the year and I actually think that's what will happen
01:17:27Do you read nothing into his his his minutes over the the two games prior to this one?
01:17:33I know he didn't play tonight, but that he did, you know, cuz we saw
01:17:38No, I think he's
01:17:40He was in Abu Dhabi, he was in you know, the the
01:17:45What what's what's what's worse than stay ready? You know, the don't even bother getting ready
01:17:51Like the like it's okay. If you have a full meal before tip-off crew, you know, like you're not
01:17:57like he was playing with those guys and then the last two he's getting in into the rotation without with the second unit and
01:18:05You know and obviously had a really had a really good game last, you know last time out
01:18:10so did you read anything into that where I think that's what sparked everything because it's he seemed like a goner the first couple of
01:18:17Games and then he plays the next two and I was like, oh he's rotating in. Did we get this?
01:18:22No, I think he's had a good camp. I mean he's been
01:18:25Tonight so I you know again, I don't know what you read into that stuff or not
01:18:29No, I think they they were rewarding
01:18:31The work he's put into this point so far and I think he's been that that facility non-stop
01:18:36I think he's done things that they've wanted him to do
01:18:40Even that first game where Joe praised them. I went back and watched the tape today
01:18:44He did some really good stuff in that game like setting off ball screens and that pass to Pritchard for the three in transition
01:18:50I thought it was you know a small move but like a
01:18:52Really good intention move and he had like what seven assists in that game though
01:18:56So that game was pretty impressive in terms of just the way he approached things
01:19:00And then the next night he comes out and scores 20 and it's great and we know we can do that
01:19:05But no rebounds one assists. I think he had a turnover
01:19:12He's gonna have a different role Joe on this team his role is gonna be to score he's not if he's a complete
01:19:20And I keep hearing this thing like oh what if
01:19:24He's not
01:19:26Shoot grab boards and and and and block shots. No, but he does all the little things
01:19:33So, but that's the point is like are we gonna remember when we used to talk about?
01:19:38Are we just talking about what the person can't do like it's what's the point if you like a guy you point out what?
01:19:45If you don't like a guy you point out what he can't do. No, they don't need him to do anything
01:19:51He's bench insurance
01:19:53Scoring as your 10th or 11th guy. He's just coming in to put points
01:19:57And that's why they're not paying 11 million dollars for that because they don't need that right now
01:20:03What are you laughing at Luke
01:20:07It's never gonna get old for me the first time I ever did one of these
01:20:12Yeah, anyway
01:20:15I look forward to the season this part of the season being over so we can just also I'm excited for Lonnie to be in
01:20:20So I can go over there and grab him for a one-on-one main PR is so helpful. I'll do some stories on him
01:20:26We'll see where he's at
01:20:28He ain't gonna be me. Yeah, you don't think he's gonna be main right now. I
01:20:32Think he's gonna find a place to play not in Maine before before November 15th
01:20:38Yes
01:20:40Okay
01:20:42So we're gonna wrap it there. We have we'll do we're gonna do our that is the risk you're taking
01:20:47I mean if he's gone next week, we'll have a different conversation
01:20:51We'll do it
01:20:53We'll say how you guys kicked him out of town. That would be what the show
01:20:57And we'll do it. We'll do a preview on Monday. So we're gonna have more garden report stuff if there's breaking news

01:21:17But the Celtics open the season hot topic next Tuesday at home against the Knicks
01:21:21Bobby Bobby's just got people buzzing all over him right now in his ear. I've been very mad from the start
