11th August - National weather forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk.
Transcript
00:00Good morning, well it's going to be feeling warmer out there today with
00:04plenty of sunny spells on offer and then a bit of a breakdown for some of us on
00:08Monday. But having a look at the bigger picture and things will be settled as
00:12we've got this area of higher pressure moving across the UK and that will help
00:17draw up some hot and humid air with the winds coming up from the south and
00:22southeast. So as we go through Sunday and more so into Monday it could get hot
00:27especially across parts of southern England and central England too. But
00:33you'll notice low pressure out towards the west with this cold front and where
00:37this interacts we could see some heavy and a thundery downpours for some of us
00:41especially Northern Ireland and parts of Western Scotland. But back to this
00:47morning quite a cloudy murky gloomy start across some southern areas of
00:52England with a fair bit of cloud that should start breaking up into the
00:56afternoon. But elsewhere across northern parts of England Northern Ireland and
01:01Scotland we'll see plenty of sunshine here and the showers that we saw
01:05yesterday across Scotland should start fading away now with the higher pressure
01:10becoming more established. And like I said it is going to be feeling warm out
01:15there for many of us across Scotland and Northern England up to 21 possibly 22
01:20degrees and hot and humid across the south. We could see temperatures rising
01:25at 27 possibly even 29 degrees. Now as we go through Sunday evening and
01:33overnight we'll start to see a breeze picking up across the south coast and
01:36into western parts as well and we'll see some showers breaking out as well that
01:40could bring the risk of some lightning too. And then we have this area of low
01:45pressure across the west and we'll see some thundery outbreaks of rain
01:49especially across parts of Northern Ireland and that will start pushing its
01:54way north and eastwards. Thundery with frequent lightning and some strong and
01:59gusty winds in this as well. As for the temperatures overnight though it is
02:05going to be feeling warm out there we'll see temperatures rising up to around 18
02:10possibly 19 or 20 degrees further towards the south. So a muggy uncomfortable
02:17night for sleeping for many of us as we start Monday morning. Now through Monday
02:23morning we will see this band of heavy thundery showery rain move its way north
02:27and eastwards affecting western parts of Scotland during rush hour so do take
02:32care here. There could be frequent lightning some heavy and torrential
02:35downpours as well and some strong and gusty winds that could cause some
02:40impacts. That then moves its way north and eastwards and for most of us we
02:44should get away with a largely dry afternoon. There could still be the odd
02:49hit-and-miss thunderstorm but most of us like I said should stay largely dry. As
02:57for temperatures then once that band moves through across the north highs or
03:01feeling fresher here with highs of 20 degrees but further towards the south
03:05the peak of the heat is going to be Monday and we could see
03:09temperatures up to 30 possibly even at 33 degrees so do take care out there as
03:15it is going to be feeling hot. Now as we go through Tuesday and Wednesday it will
03:22be feeling a fresher and more changeable but for more details on that make sure

03:30bye bye
