19 August - National weather forecast with Craig Snell.
Transcript
00:00Hello there. As we look ahead to Thursday and a rather cloudy theme continuing for most
00:05of the UK. There will be some brightness around, but that may in turn trigger a few showers.
00:12Back to Wednesday evening, you can see a lot of the UK covered in cloud. There will be
00:15a few clearer slots every now and again, but for most of us the cloud continuing right
00:20throughout the night and that will be thick enough at times to produce the odd spit and
00:24spot of rain. In fact, later on in the night we could even see some lower cloud towards
00:28south-west England and south Wales, so a rather murky end to the night here. But with
00:32all the cloud around, certainly no real major problems with temperatures staying comfortably
00:35in double figures for most of us. But that does lead to a rather grey start to Thursday.
00:41There will be some sunshine around, chiefly probably central and eastern England during
00:46the morning, then later on in the day across parts of Wales and south-western England.
00:52For parts of south-east Scotland, north-east England, here we've seen lots of sunshine
00:56last couple of days, a very different flavour to the weather here as we go through the afternoon.
01:00Rather grey notes and temperatures struggling, only reaching 16 to 17 degrees compared to
01:05the 23s and 24s what we had on Wednesday. The sunshine though may also trigger a few
01:11showers, especially across Wales and the Midlands as we go into the afternoon and some of them
01:16could potentially be on the heavy side. And then showers will then gradually work their
01:21way eastwards across many parts of England as we go through Thursday evening. But as
01:25we go into the early hours of Friday, most of us turn in fairly dry but there's still
01:30a good deal of cloud around. But we can just see the winds beginning to whip up over towards
01:34Northern Ireland, that's ahead of an area of rain which will then gradually work its
01:38way eastwards as we go through Friday. It doesn't really make many inroads, probably
01:42reaching south-west Scotland and Wales later on on Friday afternoon. So for most actually,
01:48Friday should be fairly dry with plenty of cloud but maybe a little bit more sunshine
01:52then Thursday. And you can see that with the temperatures a little bit warmer on Friday
01:56compared to Thursday, potentially reaching 24 down towards the south-east. But a rather
02:01wet end to the working week for Northern Ireland and we are keeping a very close eye on that
02:06rain band because it will gradually stall across the country as we go into the weekend,
02:10potentially giving us a spell of very wet weather. So we are keeping a very close eye
02:14on that and we always will keep you up to date on that as we go through the weekend
02:18through our website and also through our social media channels.
