Transcript
00:00I'm storm chaser Connor McCrory reporting from Sarasota, Florida. Hurricane Milton
00:05is approaching the west coast of Florida and will likely make landfall
00:08tonight as a major hurricane. Conditions have been deteriorating throughout the
00:12day here today. Heavy rain has started to cause some minor street flooding and
00:16that will only get worse. Winds are picking up and will only continue to
00:20intensify as the center of the storm gets closer. The storm surge is expected
00:24to be very problematic in this area and along the entire western coast of the
00:28state of Florida. To the east and south of this location, numerous tornadoes have
00:32been reported today with many of them resembling the types of photogenic
00:36tornadoes you normally only expect to find in Tornado Alley. This will continue
00:40throughout the afternoon and evening as the bands of Hurricane Milton that are
00:44approaching interact with the high wind shear environment over South Florida.
00:48What few businesses remained open around here yesterday seemed to have all shut
00:52down by today with gas stations all boarded up and out of fuel. Most people
00:56are not on the roads anymore. Everyone seems to have either taken shelter or
01:00evacuated. Cell phone signal has become very spotty for us. Communications will
01:04only become more difficult as the storm worsens and power outages will become
01:08widespread as the brunt of the storm arrives. At this point, there's little
01:13left for residents to do to prepare for the storm. If you're in the affected
01:17areas, it's important that you take shelter and follow the AccuWeather app
01:21for crucial updates about the storm's progress. It's going to be a long night
01:24here along the Florida coast. Everyone, please stay safe. Reporting from
01:28Sarasota, Florida, I'm Storm Chaser Connor McCrory.
