Reporter Catherine Musgrove visits Formby beach for the first time
Transcript
00:00A couple of weeks ago I decided to try out Thornby Beach for the first time now
00:05I live in Preston and it's about a half an hour drive on the coastal road
00:10straight down there to Thornby. It's a National Trust place so if you've got
00:14membership parking is for free if not it's £8.50 per car. Now we parked up on
00:20a side street, walked over the road and entered through this marshland. Now the
00:26the paths really aren't very clear and we had to track all the way through
00:31bramble and bogs and it kept on going and going and I was beginning to worry
00:38until we got to this point where we hit the sand dunes and that's where we
00:42reached the beach. The beach is vast and obviously flat with some ripples on it
00:49and it was quite quiet when we were there. There were some horses on it, there
00:53was dog walkers, I think people do some kite surfing on there but yeah just a
01:00massive expanse. We walked for about a mile until we reached the sand dunes
01:04which were quite spectacular. The sand here is amazing it's not always the
01:08easiest terrain to walk through so bear that in mind but it's so beautiful it's
01:12a white fine sand and you could be mistaken for thinking you're on holiday.
01:17There's also as you've just seen some spectacular trees, twisted gnarled trees
01:22that my son was obsessed with climbing. He was getting a little bit tired though
01:27by this point so we didn't really stick around we walked back through you know
01:32the main paths we didn't really go cross-country but it is very beautiful a
01:36great place for families, a great place for dog walking, picnics so check it out
01:41just be prepared to wear the right kind of footwear.
