00:00Earlier this week, over 123 young Nigerians from different states in the country were
00:06arrested while undergoing internet fraud training at Awe Estates in Efurun, Delta State.
00:13According to the Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the
00:19arrest and discovery of the hideout came through after the organizers of the criminal training
00:24school failed to allow one of the students to leave.
00:28The police said, subsequently, the aggrieved student who said he does not want to continue
00:33with the criminal school, was able to send message to his mother through his laptop.
00:39The mother quickly alerted one of her relations who is a soldier and thereafter the soldier
00:44mobilized and the group of soldiers stormed the internet fraud academy alternatively named
00:49Hustle Kingdom, HK.
00:52The army raided the estates in Efurun and arrested 123 boys with some of them within
00:58under age bracket of 17 in a house learning internet fraud in the guise of learning bitcoin
01:03or cryptocurrency trading.
01:06The Delta State Police Command narrated how the teenagers from different states of the
01:10federation were lured into learning internet fraud by a syndicate under the guise of teaching
01:15them crypto and forex trading.
01:18Bright Edafe in a video he posted online made the disclosure while parading 123 suspected
01:25internet fraudsters on Wednesday.
01:28He said the arrested boys, most of whom are within the age range of 17 to 20, were lured
01:35into cybercrime by a syndicate who alternatively described the school as HK, Hustler's Kingdom.
01:42While parading the suspects at Ekpon Police Station in Uvin local government area of Delta
01:47State, SP Edafe said the suspects were engaged in the business of internet fraud.
01:53They were all placed in a particular house in one estate in Efurun, Warrior Road where
01:58where they do what they call HK.
02:01The said HK means Hustler's Kingdom.
02:04The police spokesman explained that the syndicate's mode of operation was engaging their agents
02:09who go on social media to flaunt wealth that are most often not even theirs to convince
02:14unsuspecting young boys between the ages of 17 and 20 that they want to teach them
02:19forex and crypto business.
02:22They lure them all the way from Kaduna, Akwa Ibo, Ibadan to that particular estate and
02:28beat the hell out of them.
02:30That is their own welcoming to them and they feed them only when they feel like feeding
02:35them.
02:36In fact, one of them said once they enter the bathroom to bath, before they come out,
02:42they will seize their clothes.
02:45They don't come.
02:46They don't come.
02:47That in this place, there is no going back, SP Edafe said.
02:51He further explained that the police got the information through one of the suspects who
02:56came all the way from Kaduna State but told the syndicate that he could not do the hustling
03:02and should be allowed to leave but they refused.
03:05The boy now used the laptop assigned to him for internet fraud to contact the mother,
03:10who in turn reported to a relative who is a military personnel.
03:15The military men came in their large number and raided the estate and arrested over 123
03:21suspected internet fraudsters.
03:23Adding, one Bolahan who was deceived from Ibadan in Oyo State, said he studied in an
03:29Arabic school and needed money to go Cairo in Egypt.
03:34He met one of his friends, who he asked to borrow him 150,000 liras.
03:40Edafe said, that guy told him that people that are below you are living larger than
03:46you.
03:47Come to worry, let me teach you how to make money.
03:51Only for him to come, they took him to that estate.
03:55As they are entering the estate, they were locking the gates and he became apprehensive
04:00and asked, what am I here to do?
04:03They told him it was internet fraud.
04:06He told them, I am an alpha, I can't do this and they told him, you have come and you're
04:12not going back.
04:14That was how they welcomed him with beating.
04:17The Delta State Police Command's image maker said Bolahan was beaten to the extent that
04:22he excreted and urinated on his body with no choice than to stay back.
04:27He quoted Bolahan to have told the police that he had not spoken to his parents, not
04:33allowed access to sunlight throughout the nine months he stayed in the gang's custody
04:37within the estate.
04:39Edafe then charged parents to cultivate the habit of monitoring their children and their
04:44peer groups.
04:45When we can't find them for some time, we should look for them.
04:50When they come home with unexplained and ill-gotten wealth, we should ask question, we should
04:56not continue to tolerate this.
04:59This does not speak well for us as a nation, as a people and as a society, SP Edafe said.
05:06One of the suspects, 17-year-old Gideon, who came from Akwa Ibom State, when asked about
05:13what brought him to the situation, said he came to the estate to hustle.
05:18The teenage boy said he stayed in the estate for over one month and they were only friends
05:23morning and evening, adding that they only slept between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. after which
05:29they start working.
05:30Gideon said they were shown how to hack Facebook and other social media accounts, stating that
05:36he did not like the business because it was hard for him to do.
05:41Speaking on when he spoke last with his parents, Gideon said, they always seized our phones,
05:47and were only allowed to call on Sundays only.
06:17However, what is their modus operandi?
06:26They engage their agents who go on social media to flaunt wealth that most times are
06:32not even theirs, and convince unsuspecting boys of the age of 17, 18, 19, 20, that they
06:39want to teach them forex and also that they want to teach them crypto business.
06:47Now what do they do?
06:48They lure them, some all the way from Kaduna, some all the way from Akwa Ibom, some all
06:53the way from Ibadan, to that particular estate and beat the hell out of them, that is their
07:00own way of coming to them, and feed them only when they feel like feeding them.
07:05In fact, one of them said once they enter the Betruto bath, before they come out they
07:09will seize their clothes, that they don't come, they don't come, and in this place there
07:13is no going back.
07:16Now, how did we get about this information?
07:23One of them, who came alongside two others all the way from Kaduna, told them that I
07:27can't do this, let me go home, they told him, you don't come, you don't come, that guy now
07:32used his laptop that they gave to him to do the business of internet fraud, to reach out
07:37to the mom, who quickly reported to their relative who happens to be a member of the
07:42military, and they came in their numbers and raided that estate, and arrested over
07:48100 of the interior internet fraudsters.
07:51We also have another one, he said he studied in an Arab school and he needed money to go
07:57to Cairo in Egypt, met one of his friends who he asked for 150,000, and that guy told
08:03him people that are below you are even living larger than you, come to worry, let me teach
08:07you how to make money.
08:09Only for him to come, they took him to that estate, and as they are entering each of the
08:14gates, they are always shutting it, locking the gate, locking, it became apprehensive,
08:18and told them what am I here to do, they told him it was internet fraud, he told them I
08:24am an Afar, I can't do this, they told him you have come, you have come, you are not
08:30going back, and that was how they were coming with beating, they beat him up to the extent
08:35that he even excreted on his body, he urinated on his body, and he had no choice than to
08:42stay back.
08:43This brother-in-law said for the past nine months since he left Ibadan, he has not spoken
08:48to his mom, he has not spoken to his dad, they have not allowed him access to even sunlight.
08:54This is what is happening, and this is the reason why we must continue to monitor our
09:00kids, continue to monitor our wards, their pay group, when we can't find them for some
09:07time, we should look for them, when they come back home with unexplained and ill-gotten
09:11wealth, we should ask questions, we should not continue to tolerate this.
09:16This does not speak well for us as a nation, it does not speak well for us as a people
09:22and as a society.
09:24I just want us to briefly interview some of them so that they will tell us their story.
