00:00Aside from Edsa, traffic on Commonwealth Avenue is one of the most commonly complained areas according to the MNBA.
00:06And one of the things being studied here is to put up a bus lane.
00:11Witness, Niko Wahe.
00:17It's not new to motorists in Metro Manila to be stuck in traffic
00:21and to be stuck in the heavy traffic of cars.
00:24I'm slow.
00:26How slow are you?
00:27Just like him, it's already night and I'm still not able to ride.
00:30The traffic is getting worse and worse.
00:33There's traffic every hour.
00:35There's not a single day that there's no traffic, except during the early hours.
00:39Daisy is getting stuck in traffic everyday.
00:42She's going home to Montalban, Rizal, from work in Quezon City.
00:45She's filling up for two hours.
00:48It's already 10.50.
00:50When I was on my way to Montalban, it was already 11.00.
00:57When the truck collided, I was really stuck.
01:03There are many other reasons why there's traffic,
01:06like the roads and the lines of the train.
01:09But one of the reasons is the number of cars.
01:12According to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines
01:17in August,
01:1939,115 new commercial vehicles were added to the roads in the country,
01:25including cars, SUVs, trucks, and buses.
01:29From January this year until August,
01:31304,765 units of private vehicles were sold and used on the roads.
01:4010.3% more than 276,215 last year in the same months.
01:47MMDA says this number is random in Metro Manila.
01:51According to the LTO, 80,000 vehicles are added to the roads every month,
02:00including motorcycles, buses, and trucks.
02:04And 40% of them are registered in Metro Manila.
02:08So it's based here.
02:10If you include the ones in Karatig Province,
02:15which from time to time pass through Metro Manila,
02:21that's about 50%.
02:23On the last day of 2023,
02:26there are 3.6 million vehicles passing through Metro Manila every day.
02:30What we're doing is we're looking for alternative roads
02:35or routes for our citizens to have options.
02:41MMDA calls for the use of live lanes to reduce traffic.
02:46What's also being complained about, aside from EDSA,
02:49is the traffic on Commonwealth Avenue.
02:51They say they're looking for a solution.
02:54Including the placement of bus lanes.
02:57We talked to our Traffic Engineering Center.
03:01This week, they're targeting Commonwealth Avenue.
03:07One of the studies is to place a tunnel from Commonwealth Avenue
03:13to East Avenue and Quezon Avenue.
03:1710,000 vehicles pass through Commonwealth Avenue and Quezon Avenue.
03:218,000 pass through East Avenue.
03:24MMDA plans to place SWEST CHON in QCLGU, DPWH, and DOTR.
