00:00Hello, everybody, and welcome to the highlights of the third
00:13one day international between Afghanistan and South Africa.
00:15It's the Eversella Cup powered by Super Cola.
00:18And we're coming to you from the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
00:24Afghanistan, two nil up in the series.
00:26We head out to the pitch to have a look which one they're going to use.
00:28Well, it's the same one that they used for the second encounter,
00:30where they managed with three hundred and eleven on the board
00:32and beat South Africa comfortably.
00:34I think it was about one hundred and seventy seven runs.
00:36It had obviously been rolled a little bit.
00:38You put a little bit of moisture put onto it.
00:40But in general, I still think it was going to play similar to that.
00:43So whoever was going to win the toss would probably decide to have a bet.
00:46First, the coin went up and it was Afghanistan that won the toss.
00:51Bimba Bimba Bimba not getting the right call.
00:53And no surprise that after winning the toss,
00:55they decided that they would have a bet once again
00:58after where they went in the second one day international.
01:01As far as the teams go, well, there's some changes.
01:04Hassan and Rashid Khan and Faruqi were arrested for this encounter.
01:09And it gave an opportunity for at the top of the order for Malik
01:12to make his debut.
01:13And then Farid Malik coming in as the fast bowler option
01:16in the middle as well.
01:18So they've been really good.
01:20And they were obviously going to try and put South Africa under pressure.
01:22South Africa just making the one change.
01:24Nandre Berger was out and they decided to go with the option of Ndile Pethakwa.
01:28So one only one really recognized fast bowler in that equation.
01:32And then obviously going to rely on the spinners in the middle overs
01:34to see what they could possibly do.
01:36So South Africa were fighting for pride.
01:38Afghanistan were trying to make a clean sweep of the series.
01:42It's up to the commentary box.
01:43We've got Nala Brown and Vernon Phillip.
01:54Well, beats Kyle Varena down the leg side.
01:57Now, was there a little bit of glove?
02:00Yes, I think there was.
02:01First boundary.
02:08Nice sweep.
02:09Very, very efficient from Gherbaz
02:12because he knew exactly where the sweeper was.
02:19We're talking about not much aggression.
02:20There's an example of perfect aggression.
02:24Shout for LBW and the finger goes up.
02:34Looked a decent shout, I have to say.
02:40Malik will consider the review.
02:47Pitching outside off, inflicting line.
02:50Wicket is hitting.
02:52Stay with your original decision.
02:54Langton, you're on screen, signal now.
02:59Langton Razzeri got that one spot on, didn't he?
03:03So a first wicket for South Africa
03:06and the debutant Malik has to go for nine.
03:08LBW to Ngidi, it's 27 for one.
03:15That's not accurate, that's short, that's wide.
03:19And Gherbaz just gives himself a little bit of room,
03:21waits for the offside.
03:22It was going to be down to placement.
03:24Could he get it through the inner ring?
03:32Whipped away over square leg, that'll be four.
03:36Not sure that was exactly where Gherbaz was meant to be hitting it.
03:45Well, that's remarkable.
03:48Ngidi has parried that on to the non-striker
03:51and then it's ricocheted off Ramachar onto the stump.
04:02OK, there's a clear contact.
04:05Satisfied with my decision for Big Screen?
04:07Yeah, so the decision is made.
04:17It's Ramachar run out by Ramachar for one.
04:21Afghanistan, 38 for two.
04:26Gorgeous stroke from Gherbaz, down the ground for four.
04:30Down the track, tries to get through the offside.
04:37Challenge for the fieldsman, he gives it up, it's gone for four.
04:45Smacking it through mid-wicket, six.
04:48Stunning stroke from Gherbaz, flat, hard and over the boundary.
04:56Oh, that's beautifully played.
04:57Got into position early, was looking for that shot.
05:01And then executes a fantastic sweep shot.
05:04It will take him to another milestone in the series.
05:07Yeah, he was always going to look to impose himself on the youngster.
05:11He brings up the sixth half century for Romanulov-Gherbaz in ODI format.
05:19Yeah, he's got this crowd going once again.
05:24He's an excellent player, he's an entertainer.
05:31It's good running, but is it good running?
05:41It was well thrown in the end from Justin Stubbs on the boundary.
05:43He's got a strong arm and it's going to be sent upstairs.
05:46It's going to be a shock of the shoulders.
05:48He's not 100% convinced that he's made his ground.
06:00Yeah, no doubt it is.
06:13That was brilliant by Justin Stubbs.
06:15As it was angled past backward point, I thought it was a comfortable two,
06:18but he's got a strong arm.
06:19He ended up bouncing it on the other bit of the square and it got to Varina quickly.
06:24The ball was right next to the stumps,
06:26didn't take much to get it onto the wickets.
06:29The chance came off.
06:36Oh, brilliant. Slides it through.
06:38We talked about how often he just gets the ball to angle back towards the right-handed batter.
06:44This time it angles back beautifully.
06:46Just drifts in, goes between bat and pad.
06:49Aberpeter has his first of the evening.
06:52Yeah, this is absolutely brilliant.
06:54We've seen him in the first game using that drift from time to time,
06:59but on this occasion, he gets it absolutely spot on.
07:04Gets rid of the dangerous Umazai, goes for two.
07:06Afghanistan, 79 for four.
07:13That's beautifully struck.
07:13And it doesn't even look like he's going to run.
07:15No, he isn't.
07:16Just stands his ground, Gobez.
07:18He loves to move around the crease this time, giving himself room.
07:20And the target straight back over the bowler.
07:22And a wonderful execution.
07:27Globbered down the ground by Ramanula Gobez.
07:31Goodness me.
07:32Long on, he was only about five to ten metres away from that.
07:36He had absolutely no chance of getting around to his left to stop it.
07:43Catch it.
07:45Catch it is the call.
07:47Catch it.
07:48Catch it is the call.
07:51He will only be caught by one of the stewards back there at deep backward square leg.
07:55It's gone all the way for six and that brings up the Afghanistan hundred.
08:02They don't know where to bolt him.
08:03They've got no answers at the moment for Gobez.
08:09If he plays, the game scenario is what I'm trying to see.
08:12They're going to send it upstairs.
08:14Roll forward, forward, forward.
08:16It's not grounded yet.
08:17Forward.
08:19One frame, yeah.
08:20Bills is dislodged.
08:21And he's outside the ground.
08:23Unsatisfied.
08:24My decision for big screen.
08:33So, Ikram Ali Kale goes.
08:36Run out for four in Afghanistan.
08:38Well, they lose that wicket that they were so keen not to do.
08:41113 for five.
08:52Off the toe of the bat.
08:53But it's still gone for six.
08:55Tristan Stubbs was down there at long off.
08:57He thought he was in business at one stage.
09:00It's quite a short straight boundary here at Sharjah though.
09:03And Gobez takes advantage of it.
09:08Beautifully bowled.
09:10A magnificent delivery.
09:12Nothing from the umpire.
09:15You know, conditions rule now.
09:18But Uma has asked for the review.
09:20No matter what, I'm going to take the review.
09:25Roll forward, forward.
09:26Okay.
09:27There is spike.
09:28The ball is near to the bat.
09:31Confirm.
09:32Change your decision.
09:34Not out.
09:35Go out.
09:37You're on screen.
09:38Signal now.
09:40All right.
09:40So it was like maybe Timbaba Uma missed his Monday morning alarm.
09:44But he got another chance.
09:46And Navi departs.
09:48Not making any extra run after that missed opportunity.
09:51Departs for five.
09:52Afghanistan in sort of trouble.
09:54132 for six.
10:00Gurbaj goes to the offside.
10:03Felder.
10:04Felder takes the catch.
10:05Heji.
10:06Yes, he's taken the catch.
10:08He's out.
10:09Gurbaj is out for 89.
10:12Well, look, Vajo with the wicket.
10:14Jonathan Trot cannot believe it.
10:18Big, big moment.
10:19This is in the game.
10:20Rehmanullah Gurbaj departs after a well-made 89 runs.
10:24He's disappointed.
10:26He must be disappointed.
10:29Down the track.
10:30And hold out in the deep here.
10:35He took an excellent catch diving forward.
10:43You can understand the frustration.
10:45Another 100 on cards.
10:46Gurbaj is out for 89.
10:49A fantastic catch taken by Hendricks.
10:51Driving forward.
10:52Afghanistan trotting along now.
10:54132 for seven.
10:58Knocks him over.
11:00Second wicket from the over.
11:02Pelukwayo is on fire here at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
11:06Afghanistan sprinting away.
11:14Still in bowling.
11:15This is from Antelipe Pelukwayo.
11:21He's delighted.
11:22South Africa on the moon now.
11:26What a difference he's brought to the innings with ball in hand.
11:29Karote is out for a duck.
11:32He's been dragged into the leg side.
11:39He's AMG.
11:44Oh, I'll tell you what.
11:44He's taking a real liking to 14.
11:47This one is a maximum.
11:52Belting blow.
11:54Really superb.
11:59Oh, he's just to go down.
12:00Tania, did he get enough of it?
12:01Yes, that's the second maximum for Gazanfar.
12:09Oh, I'll tell you what.
12:10He's taking a real liking.
12:12Oh, what an effort by Tristan Stubbs.
12:16But he's going to pick up another boundary.
12:25Shot.
12:26Brilliant stroke.
12:28Sachin Tendulkar stand for six.
12:36Oh, chucked one on.
12:37Unfortunate.
12:38N. Giri gets the wicket.
12:40Second wicket for N. Giri.
12:44He's going the other direction.
12:45That's where off the back elbow onto the leg.
12:48And Lung N. Giri gets the bonus of the ball going onto the stumps.
12:52Second wicket in the day for Lung N. Giri.
12:55Anand, wicket down for Afghanistan.
13:00Reid Malik goes for four.
13:02166 for now.
13:07Good shot.
13:08Down the ground.
13:09Straight to the fielder on the boundary.
13:11He's caught.
13:13Markham taking the catch in South Africa.
13:15Coming with a fantastic response with ball in hand.
13:19Afghanistan all out for 169.
13:22Well, after the hearts of the second one day international,
13:26Afghanistan unable to reach the similar milestones with regards to just being bowled out for 169.
13:32Gurbaz was still brilliant for his 89 of 94 deliveries.
13:35He was immensely disappointed that he got out without getting to a three-figure score
13:40once again in consecutive matches.
13:42But Ghazanfar with his 31 of 15 showed his capability.
13:46His best score in List A cricket before this was just six.
13:49And he really did show some firepower at the back end there to get 31 of 15
13:53and make sure that Afghanistan could post something that they could maybe defend in 169.
13:58Lung N. Giri was brilliant with his bowling.
14:00Two for 22.
14:01He had a run out up front in that initial power play
14:03and really set the tone.
14:04Fontaine has built on his performances throughout the series so far.
14:08Mulder was put to the sword a little bit in his two overs.
14:11But the key was Markham, Fabapita and Pathakwai in particular who got the wicket of Gurbaz
14:16who stepped up on those middle overs and allowed South Africa to bowl Afghanistan out for 169.
14:23So 170 required by South Africa in their 50 overs.
14:27Nothing to worry about from a run rate perspective.
14:29But could they put the partnerships together and build something to get over the line?
14:37Over the top.
14:38Excellent stroke.
14:39Good footwork and will pick up a boundary as well.
14:41That's pulled away now.
14:46It's just dragged down fractionally.
14:48He's not a tall man, this Timber Vuvuma.
14:49So as a bowler, you have to be aware about making sure that you keep the proper length to him.
15:00Over the top.
15:00Excellent stroke from Vuvuma.
15:07It was again another outstanding stroke from Vuvuma.
15:10Second boundary from the over.
15:16Straight to the man.
15:17Touch.
15:19Captain Hashmat dropping.
15:22Yeah, that's not good.
15:23That's exactly what Bangladesh, I mean, Bangladesh, Afghanistan needed.
15:27They needed to pick up that first wicket.
15:28He was dropped in the last game as well, De Zorzi, against the same bowler.
15:32It was the slug sweep that time and he was dropped deep in the mid-wicket area.
15:38Good.
15:39Oh, that could have been two from two.
15:41Don't know if that drop short.
15:42It could be tight.
15:45Just need a bit of sawdust out of there.
15:48Hashmat dropping the catch.
15:51Straight forward.
15:53Straight forward catch.
15:56Maxim over.
15:58Good, accurate delivery from Mullah Mohammed.
16:01Jubilation in Afghan camp.
16:03Vuvuma is gone, he's out, he's bowled for 22.
16:07Yeah, we were complimenting Vuvuma in the last over that he seemed to have worked things out.
16:11He seemed to have it all covered.
16:13But Guzenfei gets this one perfectly directed.
16:16Just a little bit of purchase.
16:17Goes between bat and pad.
16:19Clatters into that off stump.
16:21There's been a couple of drop catches.
16:22Missed opportunities from a run-out perspective.
16:24But eventually, Afghanistan get their breakthrough.
16:28Vuvuma, he has to be on his way for 22.
16:31South Africa now, 44.
16:32Nicely worked into the gap on the offside.
16:39Good placement.
16:41Will pick up a boundary.
16:42Some relief for Hendrix.
16:45He's got a job to do.
16:48Oh, he's big shot.
16:49Big shot from Nabi.
16:51No interest shown from the umpire.
16:55Looked as though that was going past off stump to me.
17:03Pitching outside off.
17:05Impact umpire call.
17:08Wickets hitting.
17:10Stay with your original decision.
17:13Not out.
17:16You on screen?
17:17Signal now.
17:18Very good decision, I think that.
17:26Just checking to see if that last delivery was a no ball.
17:30It is confirmed as a no ball.
17:32So it's a free hit.
17:39Six.
17:40I'm not entirely sure Di Zorzi even middled that.
17:43But goodness me.
17:45Been a long way.
17:48That's how you deal with a free hit.
17:52Big share for LBW.
17:54And the fingers gone up.
17:55Di Zorzi trapped on the back foot.
17:57And he's not even bothering to consult with his batting colleague.
18:03He's on his bike straight away.
18:04Back to the pavilion.
18:06And Nabi who's bowled so well.
18:08He's got a lot of spin this evening.
18:10But this one just skidded straight on.
18:14And that's what's done for Di Zorzi.
18:21Yeah.
18:23This one with the arm angle.
18:25And this is plumb.
18:26Di Zorzi knew it.
18:28That's why he didn't bother about taking the review.
18:30Umpire took some time deciding about it.
18:33Finally raising the index finger.
18:35Saying it is out.
18:36Di Zorzi departs after making 26.
18:39South Africa are 62 for 2.
18:44There's the sweep.
18:44I don't know what just has gone on with the arm.
18:47Did it straighten enough?
18:49That'll be about the consultation.
18:54Pitching in line.
18:57And picked in line.
18:58Wicket is missing.
19:01Stay with your original decision.
19:02Not out.
19:06You are on screen.
19:07Signal now.
19:12Oh, that's straight off the top edge.
19:14Ikram Ali Kale takes the catch.
19:18Reza Hendricks goes.
19:21And Farid Ahmed makes the breakthrough.
19:28And this is a really good catch.
19:31And the reason I think is a good catch.
19:33Because just there he's calling the bowler out of the way.
19:36But also the fielder.
19:38And he has to contend with the stumps.
19:40He has to be aware of where the stumps are in relation to his body.
19:44And he makes sure he keeps himself out of the way of the stumps.
19:48Sound catch.
19:50Hendricks has to go.
19:51Gone for 18.
19:52It's game on.
19:5380 for 3.
19:55Markram trying to change that narrative, though.
19:59Dumping slog sweep.
20:04Now over extra cover.
20:06Successive boundaries for Aidan Markram.
20:09That'll break the shackles.
20:14Pulled behind square.
20:17Good shot.
20:17Brilliant effort.
20:18Not enough.
20:194.
20:24Won't be happy with that.
20:26Because Markram's got enough on it.
20:28One stage I didn't think it was going to carry.
20:30That's a bit of a gift to Aidan Markram.
20:36Oh, that's short.
20:37That's up in the air.
20:38This could be a catch.
20:40No, it's another maximum.
20:42Didn't seem like it came off the middle of the bat.
20:43It seemed like a bit of a top edge.
20:45But this has been a really destructive over from Aidan Markram.
20:52That's beautifully played.
20:54You were asking me earlier, what can Afghanistan do?
20:56And what they've tried to do there is bring an extra person into the inner ring.
21:00Saying to Aidan Markram, come on, be our guest, take a risk.
21:07It's 50.
21:0911th ODI 50 for Aidan Markram.
21:11What an innings this has been.
21:13Yeah, that's to go with 300s.
21:15And you can see the appreciation from the dugout.
21:17He's played really well as Aidan Markram.
21:20It could be close, could be close.
21:24Finger goes up.
21:25And that is the end of Tristan Stubbs.
21:28He wants to review it.
21:32Wicket is missing.
21:36Roll back your decision.
21:39Out to not out.
21:40Your screen.
21:42Signal now.
21:46Edged and down the next side.
21:47Then it'll run away to the fence.
21:49Nicely driven.
21:52On the rise.
21:54Lovely stroke from Markram.
21:58Full handsomely.
22:01Majestic stroke.
22:02And it's gone the distance as well.
22:06Six.
22:09It's got the wicket.
22:10It's trying to signal the way.
22:20South Africa have been competent today.
22:22Excellent response from what transpired in the first two matches.
22:26We win by seven wickets.
22:28So normal service resumed for South Africa.
22:34And as we thought, 169 didn't prove to be challenging enough.
22:38A decent start from South Africa.
22:39De Zorzi and Bavuma put on an initial partnership.
22:42Hendricks went for 18.
22:43And then it was Aidan Markram who shouldered the responsibility of the run chase.
22:47He made sure he got to 69 of 67.
22:50And it was there to anchor in a partnership with Tristan Stubbs.
22:54To take South Africa over the line.
22:55Winning comfortably with 17 opus to spare.
22:58Bowling wise, Zadran, he ran in and tried to bowl as best he could.
23:02Guzemfa was impressive again at the top of the order.
23:04But the pick of the bowlers for me was actually Naby.
23:06He bowled with wonderful control.
23:08And only for a late flurry of sixes from Aidan Markram,
23:10did his figures look like eight overs one for 37.
23:14Fahed Malik was too good.
23:15And so was Karoti.
23:16But in the end of the day, the 169 was never going to be enough
23:20to challenge the South Africans.
23:21And they win the game comfortably.
23:23170 to three.
23:24South Africa win by seven wickets.
23:29But an historic victory in the series.
23:31Afghanistan won the first two matches.
23:32So they had that secured.
23:33Even with the loss here today in the third one day international.
23:36And it was time to be the champions and the celebrations to begin.
23:40A massive moment in the history of Afghanistan cricket.
