00:00At the beginning of the movie, we see a group of friends who have come to the Catskills
00:08to celebrate Elise's birthday.
00:10While there, they also learn that Hayley and Grant have recently broken up.
00:14After some time, they realize they have consumed all the beer, and it cannot be delivered to
00:19the mansion they rented.
00:20Paxton suggests that he is sure the place has booze locked up somewhere, and they all
00:25start searching the mansion for it.
00:27During this, they find a door with a keep-out sign on it, which they ignore, and Lucas breaks
00:32the door to get in.
00:33They enter the basement but find no alcohol there.
00:36However, they discover that the basement is filled with creepy stuff, and Hayley tells
00:41them that it is all old astrological equipment.
00:44Meanwhile, Paxton finds a box of strange tarot cards and shows them to the others.
00:50Elise asks Hayley to do a reading for everyone, and she agrees but comments that the cards
00:55look hand-painted, and she has never seen cards like these before.
00:59She explains that each zodiac sign is represented by a card in the major arcana, and by incorporating
01:04the planets into the reading, it becomes more accurate.
01:08Just before they start, a gust of wind blows, startling them all.
01:12Hayley suggests they shouldn't proceed, explaining that it's an unspoken rule not to use someone
01:17else's deck.
01:18However, when Elise insists, saying it's her birthday, Hayley reluctantly agrees to do it.
01:24She explains that there are 12 tarot cards placed in a circle representing the zodiac,
01:29with a very important 13 card in the center, which indicates the overall theme of the reading
01:34and can provide clarity to the other cards.
01:37Elise, being a Libra, often has her curiosity leading her into the unknown.
01:42She is climbing the ladder toward success, but the High Priestess reversed is a warning
01:47to perhaps slow down.
01:49Rushing could cause her to slip up and suffer a crushing blow.
01:52Next, she does Madeline's reading, and tells her that when she senses danger, she tends
01:57to run, which makes sense because her zodiac symbol is two fish swimming away from each
02:02other.
02:03However, this month, she should fight that urge and try not to get hung up on things.
02:08Meanwhile, when Paxton goes to the washroom, he notices a figure standing outside, but
02:13it disappears when the lights suddenly turn on.
02:16Here, Hayley tells Paige that as a Virgo, she always wants to find logic in things,
02:21but this month, that might be challenging.
02:24Paige may feel like she is being pulled in two directions because the magician's bag
02:28of tricks is deceptive and will prevent her from seeing clearly.
02:33Paxton returns, and upon their request for Grant to have his card readings, he declines.
02:38Subsequently, Paxton opts for a card reading, during which Hayley informs him that the reversed
02:43Fool card serves as a caution against acting impulsively.
02:48She advises him to remain close to those he trusts, and warns him not to be startled
02:53if he feels confined or restricted.
02:55Next, she tells Lucas that as a Capricorn, he is a rule breaker, down to earth, and also
03:01sensitive.
03:02She mentions that she foresees a change in his financial situation, and that love is
03:07in the air.
03:08However, the reversed Hermit card can indicate poor judgment and serves as a warning to be
03:13mindful of his direction.
03:15While he is someone who will go out of his way for love, he should remain focused, as
03:20the Hermit's light could lead him down the wrong path.
03:23Finally, Grant agrees to have his readings, and Hayley tells him that as a Leo, he is
03:29generous, loyal, and a natural leader.
03:32However, Leos can also be headstrong, arrogant, and always feel the need to be right.
03:38Grant thinks she is making things up and starts to leave, but Hayley stops him and explains
03:43that the Devil card represents his shadow side.
03:46He is walking a very dark path, and this month he will need to face his demons and make a
03:51sacrifice, or he risks losing someone important.
03:55Hayley then draws cards to read her own horoscope, which reveals that love will be the death
04:00of her.
04:01The next day, the group returns to campus, where Elise is staying in her dorm alone because
04:06everyone else has gone to a frat party.
04:09While on the phone with Paige, she comes out of the bathroom and is startled to see
04:13a ladder leading to the attic.
04:15She calls out to check if anyone is upstairs, and when she gets no response, she closes
04:19the attic and goes into her room.
04:22After some time, Elise is startled by a sound and hears someone laughing outside.
04:27Thinking that some girls have returned, she goes out to check, and is shocked to see the
04:32ladder again.
04:33A figure briefly appears behind her before disappearing.
04:37Elise thinks Natalie and Claire are trying to scare her because she can hear someone
04:41running and laughing in the attic.
04:43She climbs the stairs to check, but when she doesn't see anyone there, she becomes a little
04:48scared, and suddenly some movement increases her fear further.
04:53The dorm lights start flickering, and she hears someone laughing from downstairs, but
04:57she can't see anyone.
04:59When she looks back up, the atmosphere in the attic has changed.
05:03She sees the High Priestess card in front of her, and as soon as she picks it up, an
05:08entity haunts her, causing her to fall.
05:10The entity pulls the stairs up, and when Elise tries to reach her phone, an unseen force
05:15drags her back.
05:17Terrified, as Elise attempts to flee, the entity bludgeons her to death with the ladder.
05:22The next day, all of Elise's friends are shocked and saddened by the news of her death,
05:27and since Paige is the most affected by this, Hailey decides to stay with her for the night.
05:33Later, Paige suddenly wakes up from a nightmare, and when Hailey tries to calm her down, Paige
05:38tells her that she keeps seeing Elise's face every time she closes her eyes, and believes
05:44Elise would still be alive if she had been there.
05:47Hailey explains that whatever was going to happen would have happened regardless.
05:51She shares that she grew up in an old house in Minnesota.
05:55Her dad left before she was born, so it was just her and her mom.
05:59Her mom got sick, and despite trying numerous treatments, nothing worked.
06:04That's when she got into tarot.
06:06Initially, it was just a way for her to make sense of things.
06:10She did countless readings, and every time, they indicated her mom wasn't going to make
06:14it.
06:15She couldn't stop death, and she doesn't want Paige to blame herself for what happened
06:19to Elise.
06:20Meanwhile, the entity appears behind Lucas, but disappears when he turns around to check.
06:26Now as he reaches the train station, the lights begin flickering.
06:30Deciding to ignore it, he moves forward, but soon he hears scary noises and is startled
06:35to see a figure standing at a distance.
06:38The entity begins moving toward him, due to which Lucas gets scared and starts running
06:42away, and enters a restricted area in an attempt to save his life.
06:47There, he steps on a newspaper that reads, You Die Today, and is shocked to see his photo
06:53printed on it.
06:54As he tries to comprehend the situation, the horoscope that Hayley had mentioned starts
06:59echoing around him, and before he can make sense of anything, the entity haunts him.
07:04In an attempt to save his life, Lucas boards a train and hides, but the entity haunts him
07:10again, leading to his death by a speeding train.
07:13The next day, the friends are shocked to learn about Lucas' death, and Paige suggests they
07:18stay together that night for safety.
07:20Hayley observes that each death corresponds to the tarot readings, leading the group to
07:25suspect something is wrong with the deck, though Grant remains openly skeptical.
07:30Paxton suggests they need an expert or someone who understands what's going on, and when
07:35Hayley searches about the dangers of horoscopes, they come across the name Alma Astron, an
07:40expert on the occult and tarot readings.
07:43They read an article and learn that a group of people in Mexico died after a reading.
07:48The group decides to visit Alma Astron, but she initially asks them to leave.
07:53Hayley explains that their friends are dying because of their readings, and if they don't
07:57do something, they are going to die too.
08:00Hearing this, Alma opens the door.
08:02Hayley explains that two of their friends have died exactly as their horoscopes predicted.
08:07Alma asks to see the deck, but Hayley admits she doesn't have it because she doesn't own
08:12it.
08:13Alma asks Hayley if the cards were in a wooden box with a zodiac wheel on it.
08:17Hayley confirms, and insists Alma explain what's happening.
08:21Alma explains that these cursed cards are responsible for several tarot reading group
08:25massacres, including an incident in London that she narrowly survived because she did
08:30everyone's readings but her own, and since then, she has been looking for those cards
08:35to destroy them.
08:36She then reveals that the cards belonged to an astrologer in the late 18th century who
08:41served a Hungarian count, predicting the future for him.
08:46After a reading predicted the count's pregnant wife and child would die in childbirth, and
08:50this came true.
08:52The grief-stricken count accused the astrologer of witchcraft and ordered his men to kill
08:57her daughter.
08:58Enraged with grief, the astrologer performed a reading on the count and his close friends,
09:04dooming them to death, and then killed herself.
09:08She bound her soul to the cards, sealing their fate and hers.
09:12Not long after, the count and those closest to him died horrible deaths.
09:17She got her revenge, but cursed the cards and inverted the zodiac, and now anyone who
09:23has their horoscope read using those cards will have to face the dark side of fate.
09:28She urges the group to destroy the deck, which is still at the mansion, if they want a chance
09:33at survival.
09:34While driving to the mansion, their car breaks down for no apparent reason, and stops on
09:39a bridge.
09:40They become worried because, according to Haley's reading for Madeline, technology
09:45will fail unexpectedly.
09:47Madeline freaks out, and soon after, she notices a hanged man being drawn on the window.
09:53Terrified, Madeline runs out of the car and the others sense an entity circling their
09:57vehicle.
09:58They then see the entity rushing toward Madeline with a rope, and meanwhile, when Haley tries
10:04to stop Madeline, suddenly a noose falls around Madeline's neck, and before she can react,
10:10the entity pulls her up.
10:12Grant and other reaches there, only to see Madeline's lifeless body hanging there, before
10:17the entity pulls her up once again.
10:20They all get terrified and run away from there, and after going some distance, Paxton decides
10:25to leave, stating that he's done with all of this.
10:28On his way back to the campus, Paxton gets startled when he hears someone laughing, but
10:33finds no one when he turns around.
10:35Scared, he tries to flee, but to his horror, he sees the reflection of the fool on the
10:41door, and his terror intensifies when he sees the fool standing in the distance, staring
10:47at him.
10:48Paxton, terrified, enters the elevator to escape the danger, but notices the ascending
10:54numbers, and he is boxed in just as Haley had described in his horoscope.
10:58As the door opens, Paxton finds the fool standing right in front of him, and before he can react,
11:05the fool enters the elevator and attacks Paxton.
11:08On the other hand, Paige books the mansion, and they revisit it.
11:12From a website, she reads that some cursed objects need to be physically destroyed, while
11:18others have a connection that needs to be severed, and the best way to remove an ancient
11:22curse from an object is through destruction by incineration.
11:27Haley throws the cards and the box into the fireplace to destroy them, but they are shocked
11:31to see that the cards are not burning.
11:34They call Alma for help, and explain that something resembling the hanged man has killed
11:38their friend.
11:40Alma reveals that the astrologer embodies the cards like a shapeshifter, bringing the
11:44final outcome card to life.
11:47Alma tells them they need to turn what the astrologer created against her, by separating
11:51the astrologer's spirit from the cards.
11:54She attempts to communicate with the astrologer, and after a while, she successfully summons
11:59her.
12:00Haley notices that Alma is bleeding, and Alma tells her she can't move.
12:03The astrologer then rises and takes control of the cards, and Alma explains that the astrologer
12:09is reading her horoscope.
12:11The astrologer draws the six of swords, and soon after, Alma is dragged into the darkness.
12:17Terrified, the friends try to flee, but their horror intensifies when Alma's lifeless
12:22body falls in front of them.
12:25During their escape, Paige accidentally gets separated from Grant and Haley, but she hears
12:29Haley's voice coming from the basement, calling for help.
12:32As she enters the basement, the door slams shut behind her, and Haley's voice turns
12:37demonic.
12:38The light then begins flickering before the bulb explodes, and Paige then encounters the
12:44magician, who traps her in a box and saws her in half.
12:48Upstairs, Grant and Haley discuss how to undo the curse.
12:52Haley suggests that if she reads the astrologer's horoscope, they might be able to turn the
12:56curse back on her.
12:58Grant is hesitant about the idea, but Haley insists, saying they are already as good as
13:03dead, so they have to try.
13:05Suddenly, Grant is pulled out of the window, and Haley is terrified to see the devil moving
13:10towards her, which then disappears into the darkness.
13:14The death then appears, and just as it attacks her, Haley manages to escape the room.
13:19She tries to flee but is attacked again by the death, who tries to kill her.
13:23However, Grant intervenes and saves her, and urges her to finish the reading while he stays
13:29behind to stop the entity.
13:31As Haley runs to complete the reading, Grant is attacked by the devil.
13:35As Grant is dragged away by the devil, Haley quickly gives the astrologer a reading with
13:39her deck.
13:40She notices that all the astrologer's cards are in reverse, indicating immense pain.
13:46Haley tells the astrologer that she understands what it's like to have someone taken from
13:50you, and that staying stuck in the past won't change the future.
13:54The astrologer lifts Haley into the air and tries to kill her at the Uber.
13:58However, Haley defiantly says she read her cards and it's over, and the astrologer then
14:04sees the death card.
14:05Eventually, Haley lets go of her mother's grief and the astrologer's spirit.
14:10As a result, the spirit is consumed by the curse and is burnt alongside the deck.
14:16Haley and Grant reconcile over their survival and relationship, and start to make their
14:20way home.
14:21On the way, they reunite with Paxton, who had survived his ordeal after his roommate.
14:27Todd opened the elevator door at the last second, which made the fool disappear.
