With former bassist for The Smiths, Andy Rourke set to be commemorated in a mural in Manchester in the coming months, we thought that now was the perfect chance to go into Manchester and ask people on the street who they thought deserved a mural.

00:00Hi I'm Theo with Manchester World today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people
00:03about murals and one of the reasons for that is because there's a new mural planned to
00:07go on the side of the Weak Sheaf pub celebrating the life of bassist Andy Rourke who died last
00:12year due to pancreatic cancer. This is a part of a fundraiser brought on by one of Rourke's
00:16old bandmates who's really keen to emphasise the impact that it's had on Manchester's life
00:21so we want to know today who people think should be celebrated in this way. As if Oasis
00:25need more murals, but that was my thought. There was that Ian Curtis mural that got
00:31taken down or painted over or whatever. I saw something that was meant to be putting
00:35it back up, if it hasn't been then I would say Ian Curtis. Other than that I think maybe
00:43Vinnie Riley from the Dirty Column is quite underappreciated and I think that'd be quite
00:47nice of him, he'd deserve that. In terms of that factory records scene and all them he's
00:52kind of one that looks a bit overlooked and I've also heard things about him struggling
00:56financially in recent times as well so I don't know if him having a mural would help him
01:02in that case but at least it'd just kind of give him a bit of respect. Liam and Noel Gallagher
01:07and all that, I just think that with them doing their, with them reuniting it's like
01:13such a, like Labour's back in and Oasis have got back together, it's like a re, what is
01:21it, cool Britannia. I feel like I can only hope that it gives like a sense of hope for
01:27me at least, you know, even if it sounds a bit silly I think, that they're sort of, kind
01:34of a beacon of Manchester. I think let's see how the Oasis gigs go next year and provided
01:41they're okay get one of the boys up there. Definitely Marcus Rattray, I think he's a
01:46great guy, he's done a lot to help people. Like with their position you know they're
01:49so famous that they can get a good like support and you know backing behind them so yeah definitely
01:57should be like commemorated for doing the right thing.
