When this couple found out their new home came with 16 feral cats, they got to work making them their own house. We talked to Emily about their latest project — watch what they created for the cats two years in!

00:00We had a huge tour of the property.
00:03We did see like a handful of cats here and there.
00:06We didn't really think a whole lot of it.
00:08The realtor said, they don't really think they can catch the cats.
00:11They don't know what they can do.
00:12Is it going to be a deal breaker?
00:14And I said, no.
00:15I think it was like the first or second day we were here, we went out and fed them.
00:18And I was like, oh, there's like 15 cats here.
00:21That was a shock when we moved in.
00:23I wanted to just start spending a lot of time with them.
00:26So I would start just hanging out in my driveway.
00:28I would literally sit out there and I would just sit with them.
00:32And over time I kind of started adding stuff, like I would get some catnip or maybe I'd
00:36bring out some toys.
00:38Every night I would come home from work and the cats would be in the driveway, like kind
00:42of waiting for me.
00:47The previous owners, they were feeding the cats, which they were feeding them out in
00:51this shed that was not the greatest.
00:54It wasn't protecting them from the elements because like it was missing doors and windows.
00:59So from there, it was kind of like our thought process was these cats need better shelter
01:03and they also need to all get spayed and neutered.
01:06We really wanted to create a cat room for these cats.
01:10I think we need to get a variety of cat bed sizes and then we definitely need more bowls.
01:16I'm thinking we should get a new rug for in there.
01:19A couple of heaters to make it warm.

01:32We decided to make a little catwalk for them.
01:34Then we ran some electric for some new plugs.
01:38So the heated houses finally came in and the cats are already loving them.
01:45When we first moved in, the cats, I don't want to say that they were a burden by any
01:50sense, but we were definitely overwhelmed by them.
01:53So it was kind of a scary experience just taking on so many at once and having to do
02:00so much for them at once.
02:03Now we look at them as part of our family.
02:06I mean, I can't even imagine going outside and not seeing all my cats there anymore.
02:10So before when I was like, oh my gosh, I'm coming home to all these cats and what am
02:15I going to do with them?
02:16Now it's just like, I look forward to that every day.
02:19They just seem so happy.
02:20And that just makes us so happy.
