Cowboys legend, Pro Football Hall of Famer & the original 88 Drew Pearson joined the K&C Masterpiece to talk about his role as ambassador of the East-West Shrine Bowl, how CeeDee's holdout could affect his start to the regular season, Dak Prescott's contract situation and more.

00:00Now, Drew, one of the, one of my favorite moments, you were up in the studio here and
00:20we were kind of hanging out talking in one of the prep rooms and I asked you about catch
00:25radius and you were like, I didn't have a catch radius.
00:28I had a zip code.
00:29You just throw it in that zip code and I'm going to catch it.
00:31And when it comes to CD, when it comes to CD lamb, is he, is, does he represent that
00:36pretty well too?
00:37Oh, without a doubt.
00:38You saw the season he had last year, the catches he made, uh, the defenses knew he was going
00:44to be the man and he still was able to get open and beat coverages, whether it's double
00:48coverage or single coverage.
00:51And uh, you know, you throw the ball in his radius, he catches it.
00:54You know, I don't mean, I don't remember CD dropping anything from last season.
01:00Of course, the 88, you know, we don't drop nothing.
01:01We don't even drop phone calls.
01:03That ain't our fault.
01:04But uh, CD had a nice season.
01:06Just think about the offense.
01:07If CD wasn't there, you take him out of that offense from last season, you see how prudent
01:12it was without CD.
01:14But CD, you know, helped the passing game, the downfield passing game, and he made a
01:19difference.
01:20And again, he did it with the defense knowing and their preparation that he was going to
01:25be the guy.
01:26But also guys, the Cowboys did a good job of disguising CD, putting them in motion,
01:31lining them up in the slot, uh, double receivers on one side and things like that.
01:37It's confused the defense and keep them off balance.
01:40And Dak knows that he has a clutch receiver in CD Lamb, number 88, and he goes to him
01:47in clutch situations.
01:49I just hate that he missed all that training camp time because that time is really important
01:54as far as the reps you get with your quarterback, the reps you get with the offense, and the
01:59feel you have with the offense with you being there.
02:02So he missed that time, but hopefully they can make that up and come back and have another
02:09great season between Dak and CD and then include all their guys into it.
02:13You know, we got to take some pressure off CD.
02:16Brandon Cook's got to step up.
02:18The rest of the guys got to step up.
02:20And Dak's got to make those guys better by his performance at the quarterback position
02:25as well.
02:26Let's talk with Drew Pearson right here on 105.3, the fan, the original 88.
02:30I'm glad that you talked about some of the time that CD missed.
02:33I'm sure it can differ season to season, player to player, but how long did it take you to
02:38get ramped up for a season?
02:42My rookie year?
02:43Yeah.
02:44Or just in general, like how much, I mean, even when you're a veteran, how much time
02:48did it take you to like flip that switch and really be in football shape?
02:52As soon as you hit training camp back in the day with Tom Landry, if you ain't ready coming
02:57into our training camp, you know, this training camp now, I was out at Oxnard for a couple
03:02of days and watched practice, and I'm thinking, man, I should go suit up.
03:06I can get through one of these practices, baseball caps on and shorts and no shoulder
03:11pads and stuff like that, because Landry's training camp was two-a-days.
03:16As a rookie, we had a whole week of two-a-days.
03:18We had 100 rookies in camp my rookie year, and at the end of that week of two-a-days
03:26rookie camp, out of 100, there was 50 guys left, and most of those guys cut themselves,
03:34and now the next week the veterans come, and now you're trying to catch up and keep pace
03:38with them, but it's a tough process to come through and try to make the team, but once
03:44you get there as a veteran and make the team, now training camp becomes a necessity as far
03:50as getting yourself ready for the upcoming season, and once you get yourself ready, that'll
03:55help the team, you know, become better and get ready as well through that whole process,
04:01but you've got to put in the work.
04:03You put that in in training camp, in the preseason, and I don't like the fact that these guys
04:08don't play any or don't have much time, play time in the preseason, you know, and they're
04:17not getting knocked around, getting, you know, tackled in real-life NFL games, and then they
04:23go out there and play their first regular season game, and, hey, once you step on the
04:28NFL sidelines, you can't help, you're going to get hit, and to handle the contact part
04:37of the game, and not just the Cowboys, but everybody does it the same way.
04:42They hold their key players out through all the preseason, and then they play them when
04:46the regular season starts, and then you've got to hold your breath that they're ready
04:50for that kind of physical part of the game because there's no way to escape that once
04:55the regular season starts.
