00:00If everything really is bigger in Texas, Jerry Jones can surely appreciate this.
00:05His Dallas Cowboys are the first sports team worth at least $10 billion, landing at $10.1
00:11billion on Forbes' annual list of the NFL's most valuable teams.
00:16That figure represents a 77 percent increase since 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic momentarily
00:22slowed NFL teams' growth, and an annualized return of 15 percent, beating the S&P 500's
00:2913 percent in the same four-year period.
00:32All NFL franchises are riding high, however, with roughly $380 million in revenue per team
00:39coming from the league's lucrative new national media rights package, which kicked in last
00:43season.
00:44That kind of guaranteed money has all 32 NFL teams now worth at least $4 billion, at an
00:50average of $5.7 billion, up 11 percent from 2023's record $5.1 billion.
00:58And every team is profitable, with operating income of at least $56 million across the
01:03board for the 2023 season, according to Forbes' estimates.
01:07Here are the five most valuable NFL franchises for 2024.
01:12At number five, the New York Jets.
01:15The Jets haven't made the playoff since 2010, the longest drought in the NFL.
01:20But star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is hoping to change that in his return from an Achilles
01:25injury.
01:26Most important for the Jets' valuation, though, is their home market, the largest
01:30in the country.
01:31At number four, the New York Giants.
01:35Like the Jets, the Giants benefit from playing in the New York area.
01:39They also rank near the top of the league in nearly every category of revenue, including
01:43premium seating, parking, and local radio.
01:47At number three, the New England Patriots.
01:51The Patriots are entering a new era, with Gerard Mayo taking over as head coach, in
01:55place of Bill Belichick.
01:58Their big shoes to fill, the team won six Super Bowls in Belichick's 24-year tenure.
02:03At number two, the Los Angeles Rams.
02:06In 2015, the Rams' last season in St. Louis, Forbes valued the franchise at $1.45 billion.
02:14The move to Los Angeles has certainly worked out, with the team appreciating 424 percent
02:19in those nine years, by far the most growth in football.
02:24And at number one, for the 18th year in a row, the Dallas Cowboys.
02:29America's team has a $2.5 billion lead on the number two Los Angeles Rams, thanks to
02:35its $800 million in local revenue during the 2023 season, from streams including ticket
02:40sales, sponsorships, and merchandise.
02:43No other team even topped $400 million.
02:47And Dallas' $564 million in operating income essentially doubled up the second-place Rams'
02:53$286 million.
