00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at the 10 worst things games make you
00:14do with motion controls.
00:24Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:28Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:33Looking like a doofus, the PlayStation Move.
00:41After the Wii captured the hearts of millions of people across the globe, Sony saw Nintendo's
00:46newfound success and thought, oh, we should do that.
00:51What a mistake that was.
00:52The PlayStation Move was one of the goofiest products Sony ever put out, and we felt like
00:57utter dinguses using them.
01:05Come on, were we really supposed to flail these sticks around that had glowing balls
01:09on the ends?
01:11Some of the peripherals that came out for it didn't make things any better, nor did
01:15it improve the initial iteration's awful controls.
01:18At least they came in handy for the PSVR, and they were a lot better back then.
01:29Kick in Survival Instincts, Rise of Nightmares.
01:39Would you believe the Kinect got a horror game and it was actually pretty awesome?
01:44Rise of Nightmares was published by Sega and co-produced by Satoshi Ito of Metal Gear
01:49Solid fame, and it actually made the terror feel real.
02:01We aren't exaggerating because of the Kinect's motion-based controls.
02:05Some of the gestures and motions you need to make to fend off monsters may feel like
02:09your survival instincts are kicking in.
02:12On one hand, it's awesome to see a horror game like this reach another level of terror.
02:17On the other hand, we're a little too haunted by our first hour to boot this up again.
02:37Those who spent a lot of time playing Wii games can relate to this all too well.
02:41Imagine playing a game like Mario Party 8 or Zack & Wicky Quest for Barbarossa's Treasure
02:46only to be met with a character making a, uh, uh, questionable motion.
02:58We can't say what it is or else Big Daddy YouTube will get upset with us.
03:02However, Grasshopper Manufacture probably saw the joke when they put out No More Heroes
03:08where you had to shake the Wiimote to recharge your Beam Katana.
03:11Of course, Travis looks to be shaking the Katana rather furiously.
03:14At least we don't see Mario's hand demonstrating how to use a Shake Weight anymore.
03:23Boss Fight QTEs, Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
03:35If you only ever played the Xbox 360 version of Marvel Ultimate Alliance, consider yourself
03:40lucky as the PS3 version was utter nonsense.
03:44Most of the game's boss fights require players to interact with quick-time events, and they
03:47are performed differently between both versions.
03:59Xbox 360 players got to enjoy simple button presses as most QTEs typically are.
04:06PS3 players, on the other hand, were subjected to the DualShock 3's 6-axis functionality,
04:11which barely worked across most games, including Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
04:17In other words, PS3 players had to execute actual motion with the DualShock 3 controller
04:22in order to make it to the next phase of the boss fight.
04:25Yes, it was rage-inducing to use, and we felt super stupid using it.
04:36Making the Olympics even harder, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
04:50Almost every Mario & Sonic installment has done motion controls rather well, decent at
04:55the least.
04:56All of them, except for Tokyo 2020.
04:59We aren't quite sure what happened with this installment, but the motion controls
05:03are much looser here.
05:13You have to exert so much energy in events like rowing just to get a decent speed going,
05:18and with the AI already getting quite a speed boost, the game is just simply demanding too
05:23much from you.
05:24We're not saying this makes Tokyo 2020 a horrible game, but the motion-controlled events
05:30really make this one hard to stomach.
05:39Letting the kids take over, babysitting Mama.
05:48Oh joy, another toy to irritate the hell out of Mom and Dad.
05:52Granted, there were already hundreds of thousands of kids playing games on the Wii, some of
05:56which came with their own annoying and overpriced peripherals, but for the little tykes, there
06:01was Babysitting Mama, a game that required you to shove a Wiimote inside a plush baby
06:06doll just to play the damn thing, and it cost about as much as a normal baby doll at $50.
06:20The only difference is now you can't watch Football or the latest episode of Game of
06:24Thrones because little Sally wants to cradle a plush that's harnessing the power of a
06:29$40 game controller and the living room TV.
06:33Should have gone with the Udraw tablet instead, guys.
06:42Ruining our fantasy of flying a dragon, Lair.
06:53We've all dreamed of flying with a dragon of our own at one point or another, and Lair
06:58was to be the next step forward into realizing that dream.
07:02Emphasis on was, because it didn't.
07:11There was so much promise built up from the trailers and the gameplay was fun in concept,
07:16however, Sony forced developer Factor 5 to integrate that insipid 6-axis functionality
07:22into the game, and as expected with the faulty hardware, it made the game barely playable.
07:28At least Marvel Ultimate Alliance only made you use it occasionally.
07:32This was an entire game built on 6-axis, and Lair's failure caused Factor 5 to shut down.
07:39Thanks, Sony!
07:47Milking Cows with Friends, 1-2-Switch
07:58While everyone was riding high on Switch fever in 2017 with its slew of great games releasing
08:03every month, 1-2-Switch was the one that became the laughingstock of Nintendo first party,
08:09and it wasn't because it was dumb fun, but rather it was an overpriced tech demo with
08:14a cringey demeanor.
08:16But the strangest part of this collection of minigames wasn't the cowboy-themed quick
08:20draw or the magic duel with wizards, no, it was milking the cow.
08:26Milk!
08:30We'd expect this from something like WarioWare, but racing a friend to see who can pull udders
08:36faster is a whole other level of weird.
08:39Be honest, was this a selling point for any of you out there?
08:42Don't lie, we know if you're lying.
08:451-2-Switch
08:50Exercising
08:57When we play video games, we are planning a complicated series of actions to help us
09:02relax.
09:03Boot up the console, pick a game, find a spot to sit, adjust spine, park rear on spot to
09:10sit, chill until we lose track of time and or fall asleep.
09:14So the audacity that some games have, like Wii Fit and Ring Fit Adventure, to tell us
09:20to get up and move is just offensive.
09:24A mode where you'll aim for the high score.
09:27Minigames, run, climb, fly through the air.
09:34Here we are, trying to be lazy and just wanting to push buttons.
09:38We're here to shove chips and pizza into our gullets while doing sick combos or watching
09:44Mario jump around and yell at our friends over online games.
09:48This ain't the time to be doing squats and yoga, and it never will be that time.
09:58How to look like a psycho, Manhunt 2
10:01If you have even the slightest idea of what the Manhunt games are like, then you can probably
10:06guess what the Wii version of Manhunt 2 was like.
10:09For the most part, it was your run-of-the-mill, slightly inferior version of a new game with
10:13arbitrary gimmicks.
10:15Just one thing, those arbitrary gimmicks caused a lot of controversy.
10:20In order to perform finishing moves, the Wii version of Manhunt 2 actually requires the
10:25player to perform the gestures.
10:27And no, we are not showing you any of that stuff because, again, Big Daddy YouTube would
10:32not be super happy with us.
10:34Granted, these gestures are pretty much the same as in the original Manhunt games, but
10:39they're a little bit different.
10:41For example, in Manhunt 2, the player has to perform the same gestures as in the original
10:45Manhunt game.
10:48Granted, these gestures are really just a lot of swinging the Wiimote and nunchuck up
10:53and down, but imagine someone walking in on you, and seeing you perform one of these moves
10:58without any idea of what Manhunt 2 even is.
11:01You're going to have quite a bit of explaining to do, and even then, that person is going
11:06to be on high alert around you for who knows how long.
11:10Well, it's too late to back out now.
11:12Let's move.
11:14But what do you think is the worst thing a game has made you do with motion controls?
11:17Me personally, I'd say it's exercising.
11:20Ring Fit Adventure has quickly reminded how out of shape I truly am.
11:24But let us know down in the comments what you think is the worst motion control-based
11:28game, and be sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays for more great videos every day.
11:33Now, Ring Fit Adventure has its alarm going off for me, so I gotta go and shut that off.
11:38I know, it's time for a workout.
11:40Jeez.
11:42Drop your hips.
11:44Victory!
11:47Thanks for watching.
11:48If you enjoyed the video, there's more where that came from.
