Transcript
00:00Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here coming to you from
00:07the Belfry, one of the iconic venues in European golf and venue for this week's Betfred British
00:16Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo. The European legend is filling that role for the second
00:23year running and he's been around the place today as players warm up, get themselves ready
00:31for an event starting on Thursday. On this occasion it also marks the start of Europe's
00:38Ryder Cup qualification battle, a 12-month process that the European captain Luke Donald has tweaked
00:50for the 2025 match at Bethpage Black in New York State. Instead of two points lists,
00:58separate points lists, he's rolled it into one on this occasion. The top six players on that
01:05points list will qualify automatically for Donald's team and he'll then be left with six
01:13captain's picks to take on an American side that is now going to be captained by Keegan Bradley.
01:22A number of Scots are here this week, not Bob McIntyre, Bob's in America, he's playing in the
01:29PGA Tours season-ending Tour Championship. He's certainly a player that'll be aiming to be on
01:34Donald's team in New York next year, having made a winning debut for the Europeans in Rome last
01:41year. However, the likes of Ewan Ferguson, Callum Hill, Conor Syme, Grant Forrest, they'll all be
01:48looking to get off to a flying start in that qualification battle and then try and get
01:53themselves into the frame for that European side heading across the Atlantic next September. To
02:01keep up to date with everything about the Betford British Masters Europe's Ryder Cup qualification
02:06battle, log on to Scotsman.com or buy the Scotsman.
