00:00More than 200 barangays in the country have an active case of African Swine Fever

00:05based on the data of the Department of Agriculture.

00:07And because of this, the DA has ordered the emergency procurement of 10,000 vaccines against ASF.

00:46According to the Department of Agriculture, more than a week is left until the month of August.

00:51But more than 251 barangays in the country have an active case of ASF

00:57compared to just 150 this July.

00:59In Zamboanga, where three barangays have ASF cases,

01:03the authorities have already disinfected their farms.

01:06Here in Batangas, where 10% of the total hog population is in the country,

01:11there are seven towns and one city that has been affected by ASF.

01:14Like Lobo and Kalataga, which declared a state of calamity.

01:18If the DA clarifies, the disease does not infect or transfer from pigs to humans.

01:25Humans are carriers of the virus.

01:27For example, if a person goes to an infected zone,

01:30his clothes are covered with infected pigs.

01:33So the virus is in his clothes.

01:35And if the pig that does not have ASF gets close to his clothes,

01:39he can have ASF.

01:41It can spread.

01:43Agriculture Secretary Francisco T. Laurel Jr. has ordered

01:47the emergency procurement of 10,000 vaccines for ASF

01:51to prevent outbreaks in Batangas.

01:53It is expected to be obtained within two weeks.

01:56At the same time, there will be coordination between the police and the military

02:00so that border control and checkpoints can be established.

02:03The government plans to buy 650,000 vaccines

02:08through regular procurement.

02:10It is expected to use the third quarter.
