Brian Booth, Acting National Deputy Chair of the Police Federation, has warned members of the public about being caught up in violent clashes with police by organised groups using tragic events for a political agenda.

00:00These groups do jump on back of tragic incidents like we've seen in Southport and use it for their own political agenda.
00:07And it is very organised but unfortunately the general public sometimes get captivated by some of the stories that these individuals put out and get involved.
00:17And then we find innocent members of the public attending these what are meant to be peaceful demonstrations caught in the crossfire between violent thugs and police lines.
00:27And that is not good for the public. I would just ask the public to go through the normal democratic avenues which is speak to your police and crime commissioner
00:37or speak to your local MP about your concerns and allow them to take your voice forward but don't rely on these organised thugs to carry your message.
00:46We all have a part to play in our society and these social media platforms earn a lot of money off stories like this and incidents like this.
00:56And they need to be taken to task and if not the government have the powers to take these people to task and deal with their social media platforms.
