00:00But the big story is Matthew Judon who decided after saying I'm going to play for the contract
00:05even if I don't like the contract, the contract about $6.5 million and another million in
00:10roster bonuses, showed up for the first day of padded practices on Monday, not wearing
00:16any pads, wearing slides in fact, brought his phone out there, had his baseball hat
00:20on.
00:21I'm sure you've read the comments by now, the stories are out there, but Judon had a
00:25little discussion with Gerard Mayo that didn't seem to go very well.
00:29They had a discussion later on, Judon left the field, came back, went to the general
00:33manager Elliot Wolfe and his henchman Matt Groh and has not been with the team.
00:39They're off on Wednesday, hasn't been with the team well, but it's interesting now because
00:44it was a very public act.
00:46I've said this before, I think he embarrassed himself.
00:50I think he embarrassed his first year head coach.
00:52I think he embarrassed his first year general manager.
00:56There are reports that there has been another contract offer extended.
00:59He jumped right in on Twitter on Wednesday and said, that's a lie, that hasn't happened.
01:05How do you view this from the outside looking in and what do you think the Patriots should
01:08do with Judon?
01:09Yeah, there's a couple of different things.
01:11We'll get to a bunch of the different kind of holdouts and hold-ins and Judon's essentially
01:14holding in here.
01:15And one of the kind of interesting things is, you know, you mentioned embarrassing,
01:19you know, Bill Wolfe himself potentially and Gerard Mayo.
01:22This isn't just their first year head coach that Judon has no relationship with.
01:26He's been his defensive coordinator for the last couple of years.
01:28That's to me what makes it even a little bit more tricky and kind of really digging his
01:32feet in.
01:33You know, I had thought for some reason in my head, I always thought Matt Judon was like
01:3728 going into his age 29 season.
01:38I didn't realize he's turned to 32 in two weeks here and for whatever reason, sometimes
01:43guys in the NFL, you know, Zekiel Elliott's 27 years old and you're like, what?
01:47And then other guys are much older than you realize.
01:49And, you know, from a Patriots perspective and from Judon, you understand Judon wanting
01:53to get one big final payday.
01:54We'll talk about, you know, guys like Redick and Trent Williams and other guys that are,
01:57you know, entering their age 30 or above season and wind those big deals.
02:02The issue with the Judon Patriots thing for me, and this is why I think he ends up getting
02:05moved at some point is if I was the Patriots, I'd move Matt Judon, not because he's not
02:10an awesome player.
02:11He's probably their best player.
02:12He would be crucial to help try to keep this team competitive with, you know, a potential
02:16rookie quarterback starting at some point this year.
02:19The timelines don't match up for Judon's peak productivity and what the Patriots are looking
02:23to do right there.
02:24A team that you assume in 2025 will try to be very competitive.
02:28They'll probably have a bunch of cap space.
02:30They'll be able to acquire different picks.
02:31They were probably a team that will pick in the top five realistically, unless, you know,
02:35unless Drake May hits the ground running and that's defense keeps them competitive.
02:38They're probably going to be one of the bottom dwellers, at least this year, they can show
02:41signs.
02:42It's not, they're going to be screwed forever.
02:43It's just, this year is going to be a step back.
02:45And to me, I feel like if you don't pay, if you pay Judon now, and even if he gave him
02:50a two-year extension, by the time he's getting his big money, does it line up with how good
02:55you're trying to be with a rookie quarterback?
02:57And again, you don't want to lose talent, but is he worth, I don't know, I'm spitting.
03:03He's to get a two and a four back next year from, you know, competitive team and say,
03:07hey, now we have four, five, six top 50 picks plus cap space, plus a rookie guy going into
03:13year two.
03:14Drake May showed signs.
03:15We feel good about Gerard Maya.
03:16We feel good.
03:17We're back off of what he's dealing with.
03:19Christian Gonzalez in year three.
03:20Like that to me is probably more of the smart play, but again, there's the emotion of it.
03:25Judon's been an awesome Patriot.
03:26He's a good player and it's kind of hard for an organization that's been, even in bad years,
03:31still very competitive to kind of just fully embrace that tank mode.

03:57Yeah, you know, I look at it and I'm, I was one who said I would be willing to extend
04:02them even beyond this year.
04:05But what are we talking about monetarily?
04:08And that's the thing that I've been reporting is that there's a huge gap between the two
04:11sides and such to the point where I don't know how you bridge the gap.
04:15And I think that's why you saw it play out the way it did on the first day at pads, where
04:20I think the frustration has set in and the reality has set in like, man, I'm here and
04:24they're here.
04:25And that's what I don't, how do we find a way to meet in the middle?
04:28What I was hoping all along was at the very least, you could say, hey, Matthew, you made
04:3215-ish last year.
04:35You're on the books, as I said, for, I mean, you're on the books for 14 and change with
04:37the cap.
04:38But in terms of actual cash, if everything goes well this year, he's making 7.2 million,
04:43I believe.
04:44Can we double that?
04:45Can we, can we, can we give you a 10 million extra dollars or something with reachable
04:49incentives to kind of get you to that point?
04:51And then you're free to go.
04:52You have an awesome year.
04:53You hit free agency.
04:54Who knows?
04:55Maybe we love you and thought we saw so much.
04:56We want to give you a big extension or you just go into free agency and you try to cash
05:00in one last time.
05:01But it feels like now this has become so public and he is becoming defiant.
05:06I mean, I, I, I understand the day and age.
05:09I'm not the old guy yelling at a cloud, but like stay off Twitter.
05:13But to me, that's the point.
05:15Like if you've gone on Twitter now and you're pushing this thing forward, it's like, yeah,
05:19he's all in like basically pay me or trade me.
05:22And it feels like they're dug in and saying, we're only going to go so far.
05:25It's not as if they haven't offered, but like I said, his, his presentation to them versus
05:30what they're presenting to him is, you know, I mean, would you pay someone who's about
05:35to turn 32 who missed 13 and a half games last year, albeit for a bicep, not for his
05:41legs.
05:43I mean, that's so good.
05:44Would you pay him two years and $50 million?
05:45Probably not.
05:46Yeah, probably not.
05:47And I think that's, that's something, and we'll talk about this with the Jets, but like
05:52it's the same.
05:53It's a different conversation with Son Redick.
05:54He's younger.
05:55He's an edge rusher that sack totals are barred by their, the fourth best in the league over
06:00the last four years.
06:01But it's again, the conversation of does the timeline match up with the Redick situation?
06:05It matches up with the Jets.
06:07That's why it's frustrating.
06:08The Patriots.
06:09I keep coming back to this where this, it's a timeline of when you're trying to win and
06:14capitalizing and like, if you're the Patriots in two years, do you want to have the Von
06:18Miller contract?
06:19If you're the bill, you know what I mean?
06:20Like that's, that's where they're at and they can afford to do it right again.
06:23They're not paying a lot of people and the Patriots haven't really paid a lot of people
06:26in a very long time in terms of that big money.
06:29But you know, you just looked yourself down the road and it's like, all right, do we want
06:34to try to, the Patriots in my head at least.
06:36And again, you know this better than me, they're probably trying to say, get one more
06:39year out of Uche and Judon and this group, and then decide if Uche is awesome again,
06:44like the way he was two years ago, we'll pay him.
06:46If Judon looks fantastic, we pay him.
06:48You just wonder, can they do something similar to, you know, raise some of the cash this
06:52year, give him something?
06:54I just, I don't know.
06:56I don't think this ends well.
06:57And it just doesn't feel like, there's other situations, Ayuk, you know, he was seen, you
07:01know, we'll get to that again.
07:02But you know, dapping up John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan at practice today, and it feels like
07:06a guy they want to have around, it's just trying to figure out that number.
07:10This kind of feels like, I don't know that Matt Judon also probably really wants, at
07:13some point does he not go, I want to go try to win one more shot at winning a title when
07:17I'm in my prime, or at least close to it.
07:20Go trade me to Washington and we're going to go to a young team that like, that division
07:25someone always wins every year and me and Matas, you know, are the Bears or something
07:29like, I don't know.
07:31The Bears is the one, I think I texted you, that one, just if it gets, if we're at this
07:36point where now all of a sudden he's dangled out there, the Bears have been looking for
07:40someone opposite.
07:41Yeah.
07:42It's going to say they were, they were in on Bryce Hough early in the year and that's
07:48after paying, you know, Sweat.
07:50So it's not as if this is a team that wasn't pursuing edge rushers in the free agency market
07:54as well.
07:55And they've been a popular pick to maybe slide into the postseason.
07:58Well, if you really, if they really believe that in Chicago, if they really believe Caleb
08:02is going to be able to handle that group and then defensively, that's what they need is
08:05another edge rusher, then that's a phone call worth making.
08:08And I'm curious, you, you, I'm still thinking like it's a four or a five, but who knows?
08:14Maybe somebody looks at it and says, all right, we talked to him.
08:17He's good coming here.
08:18We're going to work on the deal or whatever.
08:20And maybe the price becomes a little bit higher in terms of what they get in return.
