On this episode of the Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast, Greg and Nick both took in the final practice of the offseason and they broke things down, starting with more offensive line shuffling, the quarterbacks and Drake Maye, how the WR room will shake out, and some players that caught their eye this summer. All that, and much more!

00:33 Greg, I made my first voyage out to Gillette Stadium this camp season, checked out the
00:39 final day of mandatory mini-camp.
00:41 I thank you publicly, as I thanked you privately for getting me out there, although there was
00:47 a little bit of an issue at the gate I got through.
00:51 Everything was okay.
00:53 So let's just start here because we just got home, frankly, from this mini-camp practice.
01:01 And the first thing that jumped out at me was Gerard Mayo talking to the media before
01:07 practice began.
01:08 He was asked about Devon Godchow, and I'm not going to sit here and give you word for
01:13 word, but the gist was, yeah, he's not out there because of contractual reasons, and
01:19 he's not the only guy he's looking to get a deal done.
01:23 And Mayo said, "I've learned already that I don't get involved with player contracts,
01:29 and I'm learning on the job."
01:30 But he all but confirmed that Godchow is indeed holding in.
01:35 He's been at mini-camp, but he has not been out there on the field.
01:39 Do you think the Patriots get something done with Godchow before we get to training camp?
01:43 Well, that's a good question, but I will say, and how do I term this?
01:54 The Patriots, they're going to have...
01:57 I don't know what...
01:58 So it's Godchow and Judon.
02:01 I know Judon has said the right things.
02:03 We talked about it on the last podcast.
02:07 He went on Rich's show and basically said he wasn't going to do what he did last year.
02:12 I have reason to believe that will not be true.
02:16 But I will say that there are rumblings that there are a couple of big contract issues
02:22 with the Patriots, and they stem from Christian Barmore's deal, which Godchow lines up next
02:31 to Barmore.
02:32 He's been in the league a lot longer.
02:34 Judon, of course, we know what he's done, but he hasn't been healthy.
02:39 Barmore, last year he was pretty healthy, but he hasn't exactly been the picture of
02:44 health.
02:45 But I think that some of these contract issues could be bubbling up.
02:50 I would expect them to bubble up during the summer, during training camp, unless the Patriots
02:56 do do something.
02:57 And that's the question.
02:58 Do they do anything?
03:00 I really don't know.
03:06 I would probably think that they're going to do a little bit of something for both guys.
03:11 But this is what you get.
03:14 And look, I think we're both fans of what the Patriots have done in terms of taking
03:18 care of their own and how that's a change from what we've seen.
03:22 But we also know, I've also been a proponent of the way Belichick handled these things.
03:29 And he always had these things in mind, that if I do X, Y, and Z with contracts, what's
03:34 going to be the ramifications in the room?
03:37 And fans can put their head in the sand and think that these aren't real, but they are
03:40 real.
03:41 And I think Belichick went to the extreme often and didn't need to do what he did.
03:46 And certainly with certain people and positions like slot receiver, with like Wes Walker and
03:50 Julian Edelman and people like that.
03:53 But I do think that Bill had a method to his madness.
03:59 And the new regime of the Patriots, Elliott Wolfe and Gerard Mayo, namely, they're going
04:05 to deal with some of the fallout from the decisions that they've made.
04:11 Yeah, and Mayo did mention that other guys are looking at contractual things that they
04:17 want to get done, too.
04:18 So Mayo told us that that that gotcha was not the only one.
04:22 Jonathan Jones was out there today.
04:25 That's interesting to see him out there.
04:27 But yeah, we're going to keep an eye on a lot of these things.
04:30 And this goes back to Greg talking about this years ago, that when you sign somebody, guys
04:35 in the locker room, they know how much money everybody makes and they take notes.
04:41 And as soon as Barmore got that deal done, Matthew Judon, who has been a steady presence,
04:47 an impact player when he's been on the field, looked at it and said, oh, OK, so this is
04:52 the final year of my deal.
04:54 I'm on the books for I think it's what, like six and a half million or whatever he's getting.
04:58 And he wants to be adjusted.
05:00 So we'll see how they put this together.
05:02 One other thing that Mayo said before we get to the actual practice, he was asked about
05:07 the offensive line.
05:09 And I will add this note before I get into what Mayo said.
05:14 Cato Wallace, Greg did get a couple of snaps at some point during this practice today at
05:19 left tackle.
05:20 So Wallace did get on the left side for at least a couple of snaps today.
05:25 Mayo said, hey, look, we're going to play our best five.
05:29 Should we read into that and think that Michael Wino will end up being the right guard for
05:33 this football team?
05:35 Yes, I. You know, look, it's it's minicamp.
05:42 I mean, there's so many caveats that we throw out this time of year, but we have to.
05:45 It's minicamp.
05:46 There aren't pads.
05:49 But from what I saw today, especially during team when like it was Caden Wallace at right
05:55 tackle and Michael Wino a right guard.
05:57 And this is just two days after we saw like a sprinkling of that alignment.
06:03 This was like, no, let's take a longer look at this.
06:06 And I got to say, probably probably my biggest takeaway from this offseason with the Patriots
06:14 is that I am now officially worried about the offensive line and what they're doing,
06:19 where they're going, the fallout from that.
06:22 Like, you know, I went from the offseason of, OK, well, you know, they have David Andrews
06:29 city shows a good player left tackle.
06:33 We don't know about.
06:34 But, you know, right guard, you should be able to figure out right guard.
06:38 And they drafted Leighton Robinson.
06:40 And you know, but big Michael be there, right?
06:43 Tackle.
06:44 As long as you're good at right tackle, you could figure out the left side and you could
06:47 find somebody to play guard like it's not a five alarm fire, but.
06:53 It to spend almost all of mandatory mini camp with Caden Wallace at right tackle with very
06:59 few looks at left tackle to me signifies that he is going to be a right tackle and sort
07:06 of what we talked about in the last part that, you know, he's a third round pick.
07:10 They're going to want to play him.
07:12 And, you know, the fallout from that, I'm worried about.
07:15 I also think there's an offshoot of, you know, Michael Wenu.
07:19 I to to my eyes, my layman's eyes.
07:23 I don't think that he reported in great shape.
07:26 I you know, when he talked about in the offseason that he was going to train for right tackle,
07:32 I figured we'd see a slimmed down version of Big Mike slightly.
07:36 I'm not I'm not expecting him to lose 50 pounds and he's never been a small guy.
07:41 But I'm officially worried about I was already worried about left tackle, but I figured the
07:46 right side would be OK.
07:49 But now I'm worried about the right side to both of both spots.
07:53 So I'm I'm now officially worried about the Patriots offensive line and and how that shakes
07:59 out, especially early in training camp is going to affect what I think they can do this
08:03 season.
08:04 It was my first time out there today, and I will report officially it didn't look good
08:10 for the most part.
08:11 It did not look good, folks.
08:13 And look again, we've said this before.
08:16 It's June.
08:17 We'll see what they look like in training camp when you get the pads on and Greg's saying
08:20 all that.
08:21 And we understand that.
08:24 But what we saw today outside of the red zone, because I thought of the red zone, they played
08:30 better and I thought in the red zone, the quarterbacks, especially Drake May, was better.
08:34 But outside of red zone plays and reps, this whole line was getting dusted consistently,
08:41 consistently left side, right side through the middle.
08:46 And that was really, Greg, my biggest takeaway was, you know, in between the 20s.
08:54 This whole line got worked and they have some work to do up front.
08:59 So we'll see if they can put that together.
09:03 Let's move on to something else.
09:05 Want to talk about a defensive player that to me stood out today, Greg, and I know you've
09:10 mentioned him in passing and some others have talked about him.
09:14 But man, Keon White and we can talk about the offensive line helping Keon White look
09:19 better, which is at least part of the case.
09:23 But Keon White stood out to me a number of times today.
09:29 And if he's going to continue this progression and if he's better at training camp and these
09:33 joint practices than he was what I saw today, they might have themselves a player, Greg,
09:39 this year on that defensive line and white.
09:42 Yeah, he's almost immediately from the get go and OTAs seeing him out there, him standing
09:48 up the two point stance.
09:52 It's extremely exciting and his his development.
09:55 And again, it's not pads, but you could see the impact and just his physicality.
10:00 And I just love the idea of him standing up when he was drafted.
10:08 I had a hard time wrapping my head around exactly where he was going to play because
10:12 he was a he was a tweener and it was basically like him and he was like Dietrich Weiss's
10:18 sort of understudy.
10:20 And then he gained more and more playing time last year.
10:23 But I think I think his athletic ability is a strength and standing him up and using him
10:29 like that can make him really impactful.
10:33 And and, you know, I'm really excited to see what he can do.
10:36 And I also think, you know, the offshoot of that is, well, if Keon White's now an edge
10:42 and they already have Anthony Jennings and Josh Uche, and if Matthew Judon is going to
10:47 have an issue with the contract, does that make Matthew Judon expendable?
10:51 I think that's that's a very real possibility at this point.
10:56 You got to say last year of his deal, you've got Judon last year of his deal.
11:00 You've got wise last year of his deal.
11:03 Keon White, if he can pop, if he can take that next step, then you're right.
11:08 I mean, one of those guys could be gone, especially Judon.
11:12 I think Judon will be here.
11:14 I do.
11:15 I think they'll take care of him eventually.
11:17 I could easily be wrong on that, but I do expect him to be here.
11:22 But how long term is the question?
11:25 If you get white and you're sold on him on the outside with what Covington and Montgomery
11:29 are doing with him, then that will help matters.
11:33 And you're not so freaked out about the future of that defensive line, because as we know,
11:38 they spent almost all of their picks on offense this year, which they should have done, which
11:43 means they kick the can down the road defensively until twenty twenty five.
11:47 And you have to imagine they will draft at least one defensive lineman next year.
11:52 But if you have Keon White as a staple, that makes you feel better.
11:56 As far as the rest of the defense, honestly, it was mostly just defensive line working
12:01 the offensive line.
12:03 I was excited to see Keon White.
12:05 I will tell you, Caden Wallace was probably not excited to see Keon White, judging by
12:09 how things went for him.
12:11 But but defensively, it's defensive line.
12:15 It's pressure.
12:16 Alex Austin did have a nice pass breakup.
12:19 That's somebody keep an eye on.
12:20 Isaiah Bolden looked pretty decent.
12:23 So I continue to look at those young outside corners.
12:26 But let's look at the offense.
12:29 Drake May.
12:31 What do you think of him today?
12:33 Well, I had an appointment this morning, so I didn't see the first half of practice.
12:38 And I'll just like my my general impression for, you know, the last like three or four
12:44 team period, two team periods, but a split up.
12:48 You know, I thought that this practice in general and talking to some of the other guys
12:53 who were there had sort of like a last day of school vibe.
12:55 It was it was competitive, but fun and not overly like it was.
13:00 It was sort of a glorified jog through to me.
13:04 You know, from what I saw, I liked what I saw to me again.
13:06 I think that he's been throughout, especially late in this in this in this set of offseason
13:14 practices, he's been really good in the red zone.
13:17 And you know, and even today in team, normally it's been seven on seven.
13:21 But today in team, he had two touchdowns to Kayshaun Booty and another one to Jalen Polk
13:28 to finish.
13:29 It was a controversial touchdown in the right corner of the end zone against number forty
13:36 seven, who was McKay Victor, Mikey Victor, Mikey Victor.
13:41 Yeah, who I've never heard of.
13:44 He got victimized a lot by Drake May.
13:47 And I will say, you know, driving back from practice on the way home, like I was thinking
13:52 about May in the red zone and to me, and it was similar to what we talked about in the
13:57 last pod in the last practice, like his timing is really good and like he gets the ball out
14:04 and in perfect timing.
14:05 And I think I think that that confinement on that Drake knows in the red zone, like
14:13 he only has a finite amount of time, like basically it has to be thrown on time.
14:17 And I'm sure he's been been taught that that like, look, when we're in the red zone, like,
14:23 you know, one, two, three, boom, it's got to be out like one way or the other.
14:26 You got to make a read and trust it.
14:27 And I think I think that's helping him stay more together, more focused, all the footwork
14:35 and you know, all the mechanics working in conjunction, where I think when you're dealing
14:40 with a full field situation, I think he gets a little that's when he gets a little undisciplined
14:46 and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
14:49 There was a play early on in the practice where I don't know if it was panic.
14:53 I don't know if he decided to kind of just throw the ball away down in the dirt.
14:59 But there was one snap where things just looked funky and he looked unsure of himself.
15:03 For the most part, though, I just I thought it was a tough day for the quarterbacks, mostly
15:07 because of that pressure, mostly because of the offensive line.
15:09 There were a couple of bad snaps.
15:12 Drake had a low snap early on in the 11 on 11s that kind of threw off his rhythm on one
15:17 play.
15:18 So I look at the offensive line as really the biggest issue as to why these these quarterbacks
15:23 are not necessarily crushing practice.
15:26 But I would agree with you.
15:28 Red zone is where Drake may played his best today.
15:31 And he made at least two or three really nice throws.
15:35 The Jalen Polk throw to end the practice was a nice throw.
15:38 I thought the second one to booty especially was a good throw.
15:41 The first one was more of a contested catch by booty.
15:44 But I thought may stepped up in the red zone.
15:47 And that was good to see.

16:48 This week on PrizePix, I'm looking at the hockey board selecting Gustav Forsling over
16:52 one and a half shots on goal.
16:54 Sam Bennett, hated in Boston, over four hits.
16:58 Alexander Barkov over 0.5 assists.
17:01 That's easy.
17:02 That's like taking money from a baby.
17:03 And Chris Kreider over two and a half shots on goal.

17:12 Pick more, pick less.
17:15 It's that easy.
17:16 Overall, Greg, quarterbacks.
17:20 May and Brissette got about 98% of the snaps.
17:23 We saw Bailey Zappi for maybe a couple snaps, 11 on 11s.
17:28 Maybe he got one series, you know, one set of four downs or so.
17:32 Joe Milton, MIA.
17:35 He was on the field.
17:36 He was there.
17:37 He took part in warmups and drills.
17:39 But this was a heavy, heavy Drake May Jacoby Brissette day, which again would lead me to
17:44 believe that the third quarterback, it's been established.
17:49 That's Bailey Zappi.
17:50 This is Brissette versus May as we get the training camp.
17:53 Yeah, I would say that's true.
17:56 I think it's only, you know, after what we've seen, I think it's only a matter of time before
17:59 the Patriots part ways with Bailey Zappi in any number of ways.
18:03 It'll probably just to be a clean release.
18:04 I don't think this is a guy who the Patriots cut and nobody picked up at the end of training
18:11 camp last year.
18:12 And so, and I do think, I do think the Patriots will be on the lookout for a veteran type,
18:21 probably somebody who has been in this system before, been with Alex Van Pelt, that there's
18:26 a comfort level, you know, whether it's Green Bay or Cleveland or, you know, that sort of
18:31 thing to bring in at some point and probably be on the practice squad as sort of, you know,
18:37 a guy who is around and could be needed down the line.
18:42 But yeah, I think you're right.
18:43 I think it's, and I don't think it's, you know, the snap thing, like in the work, I
18:52 just think that like, look, Drake's going to get his snaps because he needs to be developed.
18:57 It's not about the season other than, you know, Brissette and him are going to split
19:01 snaps pretty much.
19:03 Brissette has to get ready to start the year.
19:06 May has to get ready to, he just has to develop and he needs the reps.
19:10 And that's the only way that's going to happen, especially during this defense, once we get
19:14 to training camp and the pads are on and things like that, it's going to really heat up for
19:18 Drake May.
19:19 And then we'll really be able to see, you know, what he's made out of and how much progress
19:25 he's making.
19:26 But yeah, he definitely, he needs to get his snaps.
19:29 Anybody that's going to take away from those isn't really needed.
19:32 And you just down the line, you go get some veteran guy that gets cut loose, that can
19:38 be on the practice squad and sort of also serve as a mentor for me.
19:43 First time I saw Jalen Polk in person today and a couple things stood out.
19:48 Me and my buddy Jim Louth, 95, we were watching the drills and Jim pointed out to me that
19:56 Polk has this kind of weird thing where his legs and hips are moving, but his, his top
20:01 half is kind of in the same spot.
20:03 So it's, it's misleading to like tacklers.
20:05 They were doing that, you know, the, the whole kind of juke drill a little bit there and
20:10 it's just, I think he has athleticism that, that you don't really see.
20:15 He plays, he plays faster than you would think.
20:17 That's the first thing.
20:19 Second thing is that final catch.
20:22 I know it's mini camp.
20:23 Okay.
20:24 I understand it.
20:25 But that last catch to end mini camp and just to kind of paint the picture for people, it
20:29 was the final down.
20:31 Everybody knew it was the final down.
20:34 Defense offense, red zone area.
20:37 How are you going to end mini camp?
20:39 Drake may is in there and may throws pretty much a fade to the corner of the end zone
20:45 and poke dives for it.
20:48 And pretty much, you know, parallel to the ground somehow gets his mitts on it, Greg
20:52 and catches the football.
20:54 They first called it out of bounds, incomplete.
20:56 The first ref had it incomplete.
20:59 The other refs got with that ref.
21:00 They had the old mini camp referee huddle and the, the offensive players really wanted
21:06 to touch down and they called it a touchdown.
21:09 Jalen Polk afterwards said, I knew I got both feet in.
21:11 I, he said, there's no doubt I had both feet in.
21:13 That was a catch.
21:14 I knew it the entire time.
21:16 So the offense explodes, the defense is left giving pushups because they gave up the touchdown
21:21 to end mini camp.
21:23 But I just thought Jalen Polk, I know you've talked a lot about him.
21:26 My first time seeing him, you know, in person, I've seen him for Washington.
21:30 I like him a lot.
21:32 I might like him even more after today.
21:34 I think, I think Patriots fans are going to be pretty happy with Jalen Polk.
21:38 Yeah.
21:39 And I will say on that, on that final touchdown, which, you know, was a beauty timing, like
21:46 perfect arc from Drake May to him.
21:49 My view of it was that I thought his, I thought his back landed first and partially out of
21:55 bounds and then the, then the feet came down.
21:58 But like you said, the, the officials huddled, they said, they said touchdown.
22:03 Yeah, I love Jalen Polk.
22:05 I mean, I do.
22:06 And today was another example of like, every day I get excited to watch him and I see,
22:13 you know, something different.
22:14 He's just, he's just a baller.
22:15 Like he just knows how to play.
22:19 You know, I don't know if you, what you thought about my comparison to like, to Jacoby Myers,
22:25 that he's sort of like a thinner, more, more fluid sort of Jacoby Myers, but like, that's,
22:33 that's the baseline.
22:34 I just think he's better than Jacoby Myers.
22:35 He's a little bit smaller, not quite as thick, but a lot more looser in the hips.
22:41 I, and I think you're, you're spot on.
22:43 I think he is, he is better on the field than his time speed or anything like that.
22:50 I think he's, I think he's gonna be really, really good.
22:54 He also caught a touchdown from Jacoby preset a little bit earlier in the practice in the
22:57 red zone.
22:58 So he finished with two touchdowns today.
23:00 He had two touchdowns on Monday, strong mini camp for Jalen Polk, which is nice.
23:06 Also a strong day.
23:07 You mentioned him a little bit earlier.
23:09 He might be somewhat of a forgotten guy on this team.
23:12 I'm not ready to go bananas just yet, but Keyshawn booty, he caught two touchdowns today,
23:18 both from Drake may.
23:20 One of them was heavily contested and he just pretty much wrestled it away from the defensive
23:25 back and got both feet down.
23:27 According to the ref in the end zone, he made another catch.
23:30 It was a fade from may corner of the end zone.
23:33 Great throw by may just layered it right over the top of the DB.
23:37 But Kayshawn booty, what have you seen from him, Greg, so far?
23:40 Yeah, I thought he had a, I thought he had a really good spring and I thought, you know,
23:45 he was better than he was a year ago.
23:50 There was a little bit of hype for him, which I didn't think really matched up.
23:53 And you know, he had to play early cause of injuries and then he sort of disappeared for
23:57 for a very long time.
23:58 Of course, that was under the former regime.
24:01 So we don't exactly know what, what was going on.
24:04 And you know, but the question with him has always been ever since he's been drafted and
24:09 now with the gambling thing sort of hanging over his head, the investigation and being
24:14 implicated in that is him off the field and him as a professional.
24:19 I know sort of at the midpoint last year, I got good reports on, you know, how he was
24:22 conducting himself behind the scenes.
24:24 I haven't heard much since, but with booty, you just wonder, you know, if he's going to
24:32 be available, what's going to be the pecking order when is born coming back?
24:35 I mean, because they have a lot of guys were for probably not a lot of spots, but if he,
24:41 if he continues to show this even if he gets suspended or, you know, whatnot you know,
24:48 perhaps they, perhaps they keep a roster spot on them because I do think, I do think he's
24:54 he's shown well since he's gotten here, the Celtics are in the NBA finals.
24:59 And I can tell you, Nick is very excited.
25:02 Celtics will have home court.
25:03 So possibly four games at TD garden.
25:05 How awesome would it be to go to a game and experience that atmosphere and get the hate
25:08 on Kyrie game time?
25:10 Makes it getting NBA finals tickets even faster and easier prices on the game time app actually
25:15 go down the closer it gets the tip off with killer last minute deals, all in prices views
25:20 from your seat.
25:21 I love that.
25:22 I have to see the view from my seat before I purchase any tickets.
25:25 It's right there in the app and their lowest price guarantee game time takes the guesswork
25:30 out of buying NBA tickets.
25:32 I was just looking at the app for game one and saw a ton of discounts being offered.
25:36 Like seriously, it says like, you know, $49 off a hundred dollars off.
25:40 Of course, the, the, the price tags are expensive.
25:44 Not outrageous if you're a hoop head and planning on going to the NBA finals.
25:50 Like I said, love getting a panoramic view from the seat in the app before I buy.
25:55 Take the guesswork out of buying NBA finals tickets with game time, purchase the game
25:58 time app, create an account, use code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase terms apply

26:12 Download game time today.
26:13 Last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed.
26:17 Let's keep up with the wide receiver conversation because I did not see Tyquan Thornton out
26:21 there.
26:22 Javon Baker was also not out there.
26:26 So you add two of your top five guys with Kendrick Bourne, obviously still coming back
26:32 from the ACL.
26:33 Those guys were not on the field today.
26:36 So this kind of begins an interesting conversation about the wide receiver room.
26:41 The first thing I want to ask you is when we got there and you said you had an appointment,
26:46 so you got there a little bit later on.
26:47 Well, when we first got there, Stacey James, who does a great job with the communications
26:52 department with the Patriots, he came out and he said that Baker was going to talk today
26:57 and then Baker's not out there.
26:59 And Stacey said, you know, there was one or two guys that were supposed to talk, but they
27:02 didn't practice.
27:04 What do you make of that?
27:05 Is there anything to make of that, that originally it sounded like Baker was going to meet with
27:09 the media and then we don't really see him?
27:12 Is it something that's just a miscommunication between the Patriots and the communications
27:16 department or what could happen there?
27:19 Yeah, I the short answer is I don't know.
27:22 And so I'm not going to make a big deal out of it.
27:23 But, you know, Judon was another guy who was supposed to talk.
27:27 And yeah, he did not.
27:29 And he practiced and he just, you know, sort of walked off.
27:33 Baker was supposed to talk and that he didn't practice is not new.
27:39 He has he didn't take part in any camp at all.
27:41 And that was prearranged that he was going to talk.
27:43 So the only thing I can draw from that is both of those guys declined to talk.
27:51 And I don't think either are either is a good sign.
27:56 You know, we've talked a lot about Baker and some of his issues.
28:00 Is he is he worried about having to face some of the questions about, you know, some of
28:07 his background and things like that?
28:09 You know, I don't know.
28:11 But I don't think it was great on either account.
28:15 But leaving it open that we don't specifically know what happened.
28:18 Yeah, Judon, too, especially, I mean, maybe it's the fact that he did the radio interview
28:23 yesterday with Richard and leave and Mike Giardi and and Michael Hurley.
28:29 Maybe that's why he did not want to.
28:33 Talk more with the media today after saying what he said yesterday.
28:37 We don't know.
28:38 But it's it's absolutely an interesting note that both he and Baker were scheduled to speak
28:42 with the media and neither did.
28:44 So we keep an eye on that.
28:46 Tyquan Thornton.
28:47 Who knows?
28:48 Who knows, man?
28:49 I think the the roller coaster that is Tyquan Thornton.
28:55 I just I don't see it yet.
28:58 And you know, maybe by training camp, he'll he'll turn us all around.
29:02 But I would not if I had a Tyquan Thornton jersey, I would not feel particularly confident
29:07 that I could rock that during a Sunday while he's out there on the field.
29:11 Jalen Rager, another receiver as part of this, you know, group that is fighting for the final
29:16 likely two to three roster spots, depending on what they do with Kendrick Bourne.
29:22 Rager early in practice, he dropped the pass.
29:25 It was it was the first snap of the day and Brissett threw it to Rager and he dropped
29:31 it and it looked like he jammed his finger.
29:33 He hurt his finger.
29:34 He was back out there on the field later on, but Rager did not do much.
29:39 So I bring all of that up because I ask you, Greg, this wide receiver room pokes obviously
29:44 going to make it.
29:45 Kendrick Bourne will make it.
29:47 We'll see if he's on the PUP.
29:50 Jayvon Baker, I assume he will make it unless something unforeseen happens.
29:55 The rest of these guys after minicamp now, as we get ready to head towards training camp,
30:02 how would you kind of place the rest of the guys?
30:04 K.J. Osborne, Thornton, Juju Smith, Schuster, who did nothing today.
30:12 And the guys that we've brought up already, you know, as far as that, that last three,
30:17 four, five kind of spot on this roster.
30:20 Right.
30:21 So, you know, we know Polk, Bourne, POP are definitely going to be here.
30:27 K.J. Osborne is definitely going to be here.
30:29 I mean, they signed a new contract.
30:30 He's going to be here.
30:31 Baker, that's five.
30:34 Booty, you know, who knows?
30:38 So you think you think Osborne's on no matter what because of the contract?
30:41 Yeah, no matter what.
30:43 I think he was brought here for a reason.
30:44 He's been underwhelming in the spring, had a case of the drops, but I think he's here
30:49 for his professionalism and having been in the scheme before.
30:53 So I think he's definitely here.
30:54 So that's five.
30:57 To me, you know, I think that Ragoor's here also because of his returnability.
31:07 I think I think Juju's gone at some point, and I think it's between Booty and Taekwon
31:12 Thornton for like another spot if they go with another wide receiver.
31:17 And I can't tell you which way that is going to go.
31:19 I would say it's not looking good for Taekwon at this point, you know, along with, you know,
31:27 him not being able to go today again.
31:31 And you know, that drop that I talked about in the first play of team on Monday in traffic,
31:37 I don't think it's looking good for Taekwon and Juju.
31:40 I got a couple of more questions for Greg, but first, I remind you, this episode is brought
31:46 to you by PrizePix, largest daily fantasy sports platform in North America.
31:51 Download the app today.
31:52 Use code CLNS for a first deposit match up to one hundred dollars.
31:55 Also you can check out BSJ, 50 bucks for the year.
31:59 And I will tell you, we had a big development today.
32:03 I actually spoke with Mike Giardi.
32:05 So that happened.
32:07 We've crossed that bridge a little bit.
32:09 So we'll talk about Brady night.
32:13 But it was kind of fun where it was Giardi, Greg and I, along with Jimmy Louth on the
32:18 left.
32:19 So it was like Giardi said something along the lines of like it's like the BSJ crew
32:23 and the three of us walked out together like, you know, the movies when they get black and
32:28 white with the glasses on like reservoir dogs.
32:30 Yep.
32:31 So you can you can spend 50 bucks for the entire year for BSJ's great coverage.
32:41 Corrales down in Dallas.
32:42 We'll see if Porzingis plays tonight or not for game three.
32:46 But you can check about 50 bucks for the year.
32:49 All right.
32:50 One other guy I want to ask you about might be random to you, but Alex Barth and I were
32:54 talking about him a little bit.
32:56 A couple of plays during practice.
32:58 That's your Michael Hasty.
33:00 We've talked about running backs.
33:01 We know Ramond is going to be Ramond.
33:03 Ray Gibson's Gibson.
33:05 Does Hasty have a chance to be the third back on this roster?
33:09 Absolutely.
33:10 Yeah.
33:11 I mean, we're going to have to see what the undrafted guys do.
33:14 Like, you know, I know Fenwick, who they really like a lot, has been dealing with a tight
33:19 hamstring all offseason.
33:20 So we really haven't seen him do anything.
33:22 He's not really like a speedback.
33:25 He's more of like a power back, you know, a little bit slower than Sean Fenwick.
33:34 But yeah, Michael Hasty is this, you know, little sort of spark plug type of guy.
33:40 And I think he definitely has a chance to earn a role in this team.
33:44 Last one.
33:45 Big picture.
33:46 We're done with mandatory minicamp.
33:50 We'll see what happens at training camp.
33:51 And as we head into July and the quiet time happens over the next couple of weeks, just
33:57 your overall thoughts on this football team where they're at.
34:01 My overall comment is I feel worse about this team after what I've seen this offseason.
34:07 I'm sorry.
34:08 All right.
34:09 Great.
34:10 Everybody have a good weekend.
34:11 We're out of here.
34:12 I was and it all has to do with the offensive line.
34:16 I mean, I like what I've seen out of the receivers.
34:18 I like what I've seen out of the running backs.
34:19 I like what I've seen out of the quarterbacks.
34:21 I like what I've seen out of the defense.
34:23 But the offensive line has been a train wreck in this training camp.
34:28 I mean, not training camp, minicamp.
34:31 Sorry.
34:32 And, you know, again, there's a lot of prefaces to this.
34:37 Like we haven't seen it's been a long time since I've seen these guys, this style of
34:42 offense, West Coast, Van Pelt, McCarthy type of thing, McAdoo.
34:47 It's been a long time.
34:48 I'm removed on how they do things as far as like, are they just using this to to test
34:55 things and then, you know, they'll settle down for training camp.
34:59 That could be the case.
35:00 But I was I was more hopeful of seeing like a little bit more regimented, like, you know,
35:07 a core four and Caden Wallace at left tackle city.
35:11 So in Mafia left guard, David Anders and Jake Anders has been hurt at center right guard,
35:18 you know, maybe it's also Mafia, but, you know, Nick Leverett and Leighton Robinson
35:25 right tackle Michael Wenu, Calvin Anderson, Vardarian Lowe.
35:33 Like I thought it didn't seem that difficult to me to sort of stack guys.
35:38 Here we go.
35:39 This is what we're going to do.
35:40 Here's the plan.
35:41 And then to end with mandatory minicamp with Caden Wallace at right tackle and Michael
35:46 Wenu at right guard, along with what's going on at left tackle.
35:51 I mean, I'm just I'm puzzled by it.
35:53 I'm disturbed.
35:54 I'm worried.
35:56 It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth for this offseason.
36:00 And you know, sorry to be a little bit negative on it.
36:04 But that's that's my overriding thought, like leaving the offseason practices.
36:10 I don't feel great about where the offense is.
36:13 It starts with the offensive line because so much is predicated on the offensive line
36:16 in any offense, especially this one with the running and the boots and the thing off the
36:21 play action and all that stuff.
36:23 And if if the offensive line is effing things up, which at one point today, by the way,
36:30 mind you, I saw Michael Wenu and Caden Wallace run into each other at one point.
36:35 I think the rookie went the wrong way and banged in the big mic.
36:39 And I'm like, oh, this is freaking great.
36:41 So yeah, I don't I feel worse about this team after this offseason.
36:48 But who knows?
36:49 Real football is coming.
36:52 I lied.
36:53 I have one more.
36:54 Any thoughts on Brady night, which is going to happen tonight?
36:57 I have none.
36:59 Sorry, I have to drive my daughter to a softball tournament, so I will not be there.
37:05 All I can tell you is that the security at Gillette Stadium today was on another level.
37:11 It was worse than any game day or concert or anything like that.
37:15 Like at about at like 10 o'clock in the morning, that place was on lockdown.
37:19 I mean, you know, I know the cargo is precious with all the all the Patriots dignitaries
37:24 and all the ex players and current players and stuff like that.
37:27 But holy moly, that place was Fort Knox like good.
37:30 Good luck to you, Nick and other people like getting in and out of there tonight.
37:35 Like good luck.
37:39 Not looking forward to it.
37:41 Getting out of there is going to be a nightmare.
37:43 All right.
37:44 We added this so happily.
37:46 Everybody have a great weekend.
37:47 Weather's supposed to be pretty good.
37:48 We'll talk to you next week.
37:49 [MUSIC]
