00:00Just like Justin Cooper for Aaron Plessinger, the goal is a podium.
00:04They all sense it with the absence of Jeff Lawrence, it's opened up that seemingly impossible
00:09before third spot to attain.
00:10For AP, he's got to put two solid motos together.
00:13It really feels like his race will be between Justin Cooper and Jason Anderson for that
00:18coveted third spot.
00:22Fly racing 32nd car is up.
00:25Thank you, J.T.
00:26And Will.
00:27We're ready to go.
00:2840 riders on the gate.
00:2930 minutes and two laps is the race duration.
00:32They will race twice today.
00:33Will be here all day long on Peacock or the SMX video pass outside the United States.
00:38Be joined by the NBC audience in a bit.
00:41We're ready to go.
00:42Important round with two weeks off after this.
00:45Who will carry the momentum in?
00:46Let's go!
00:47And Plessinger rockets to the motorsport.com hole shot.
00:59Justin Cooper right behind him in Hunter Lawrence third.
01:03Firing start by the number seven of Aaron Plessinger.
01:06Got a great jump out of the gate.
01:09Able to get to third gear quicker than anybody else.
01:12Rockets out of there.
01:13That is huge on this racetrack.
01:16Sometimes this racetrack has a tendency to race really narrow.
01:19Nevertheless, a fun racetrack for these racers.
01:22Last year he hole shot the second moto and did this exact same thing.
01:26When he had the lead, he really rode well.
01:28Plessinger out of Ohio.
01:29Listen to this crowd.
01:30They love it.
01:31They call him the cowboy.
01:32They're pumped to see him up front.
01:33He definitely is a fan favorite 100%.
01:37I like what I see from Aaron Plessinger.
01:39He was riding really well last weekend at Millville.
01:43Had a lot of aggression.
01:44A lot of speed.
01:47A couple of mistakes that cost him some sweet position.
01:52He's making good on that right now.
01:54Making up for it.
01:55Cooper second.
01:56Now, Hunter Lawrence, not the hole shot, but he's three positions in front of Sexton.
02:01Another probably not as good a start as he wanted beginning to this race.
02:05He's sixth.
02:06J.T.?
02:07Well, it's interesting to look at both Justin Cooper and Hunter Lawrence behind A.P.
02:14Now, remember, both of those two riders, this is their first year here on a 450.
02:18This racetrack is significantly different on a big bike.
02:21There's so much more power to contend with on a very slippery and very tricky racetrack.
02:26So A.P.
02:27Looks a little bit more comfortable.
02:28You can see that Hunter's kind of settling in a little bit, but that's the difference
02:31between experience.
02:32You're just a little bit more comfortable early, especially in tricky track conditions.
02:36Well, if you can be comfortable early on these conditions, you're going to have a huge advantage.
02:43Oh, Jason Anderson makes the move on Hunter Lawrence.
02:46Puts a little mustard on the pass.
02:48Runs into him a bit.
02:49No love lost between these two.
02:51Yeah.
02:52To make passes here on this racetrack today, you're going to have to be aggressive, and
02:55I don't mean aggressive by making contact, but what I mean is aggressive with the moves,
02:59and if the door opens up, you've got to take it immediately because it is so challenging
03:04to make a move by all of these riders here.
03:06You can see all the ruts here.
03:08So it's hard to move around from left to right.
03:10So when that door opens up, boom, you've got to take it right there, Will.
03:13And we're seeing a lot of progression again here with Jason Anderson.
03:17He came fifth last weekend at Spring Creek, but that sounds worse than Justin Cooper,
03:22but we've got to remember, it's Justin Cooper, Aaron Glassinger, and Jason Anderson all scored
03:28eight points there from the motos, but it was just how it was shuffled up because, obviously,
03:32it goes to the tiebreaker of where they positioned in that second moto.
03:35Now, Jason Anderson, with that strong showing last weekend, I was told, has made even more
03:40gains on the bike, his comfort set up, and we've got to remember, as well, a hard base
03:45track like this, Ricky, is really going to play into his hands.
03:47So put all those pieces together, and it could be a good day.
03:50Yeah, you talk about making improvements on that monster energy Kawasaki for Jason Anderson.
03:55I was watching him in the first time qualifying practice earlier today, Jason.
03:58I was telling you, he looked very comfortable.
04:02Just looked like he could go anywhere he needed to go, and it looked to me like his bike was
04:06very forgiving and that he could put the bike where he needed to go rather than the
04:11bike putting him where it wanted to go.
04:15To J.T.
04:16Yeah, and I think for Jason Anderson, I think you become a product of your environment,
04:20and for Anderson growing up in New Mexico, a really low traction environment, he had
04:25to learn those characteristics, throttle control, carrying momentum, because he was also at
04:30elevation, so he couldn't rely on that power because he simply didn't have as much with
04:34the lack of oxygen.
04:36So I think on a track like this where it's tricky, the traction is always out to kind
04:39of fool you, I think he feels at home here and just more comfortable than many of the
04:43other riders.
04:44Talking about being fooled, J.T., you spoke about the shadows on this racetrack, and early
04:50on in these tracks, early on in these races, the tracks are very slippery because the track
04:56crew are putting water down, so when you get in these shaded areas, you can't really see
05:00because the dirt's already dark to start with.
05:03Watch this.
05:04Chase Sexton had lost a position, and now we see why.
05:07Here he goes, jumping in, going to go to the inside rut, and as he does that, he initiates
05:14the corner.
05:15When he does that, the front end goes right over the top of the rut.
05:19Doesn't lose too many positions.
05:22He only lost one to Derek Kelly, then he got it back, but he's in sixth.
05:26The problem is, he was about five seconds off the lead, now he is 11 seconds, nearly
05:3112, and his teammate getting away.
05:36Yeah, this guy, this isn't a surprise for a guy like Aaron Plessinger, especially going
05:41after how well he was riding last week, and the guy knows how to ride.
05:45He's a champion in the 250 division, so he knows what he's doing, and with this being
05:49kind of a technical track with all the ruts and shades, I feel like he thrives in those
05:56type of conditions.
06:03And it certainly helps to have the fan support, which you're hearing all the way around this
06:08track.
06:09Cooper lurking.
06:10Listen to this.
06:18But Justin Cooper hanging in there, keeping it to about two seconds.
06:21Yeah, he is.
06:22He's keeping him honest, but at the same time, man, if Plessinger is able to get out a little
06:28bit further, he's got to get to an area where he'll be able to manage that gap or lead and
06:34not necessarily have to override the bike, which in turn on a track like this, you can
06:41almost be faster sometimes by going slower.
06:45You're able to go faster because of the conditions, and if he gets a couple more seconds on Justin
06:50Cooper, he will be in that spot.
06:53Now what's interesting about this battle here, R.C., you've got Anderson of the 21.
06:57Hunter Lawrence starting to catch him, but there has been some rough riding, some aggressive
07:02riding between these two all year.
07:04If you're Hunter, is that in the back of your mind?
07:06Are you almost worried or wondering how do you approach if you want to make the pass?
07:12Yeah, I don't believe that there's any worry there.
07:15You just have to plan your pass precisely, and make sure you do it in a place where maybe
07:20Jason Anderson cannot retaliate, so the timing of where he makes the move is going to be
07:26absolutely crucial if he's going to want to get by the 21 of Jason Anderson.
07:31This date's back with both Jett and Hunter Lawrence, the brothers to multiple run-ins
07:36at supercross.
07:37Some arguments off the track when the race was over, and then Anderson threw a little
07:43something extra on the pass in the beginning of this moto, but Hunter, he's got to move
07:49forward.
07:50This is an opportunity to make up points with Sexton still in sixth.
07:54Send it back to J.T.
07:55Yeah, Jason, why can't you make a great point there?
07:57What I would love to see from Hunter here is really turn up the intensity, because you've
08:00got a rider behind you in Chase Sexton that has won five motos coming in here and has
08:05built up a 13-point lead.
08:07He's just opened the door for Hunter Lawrence to claw some of those points back.
08:10It really hurts, though, if Chase Sexton can't do better than a fifth or a sixth and
08:14Hunter doesn't capitalize.
08:15He's really got to take advantage of this.
08:16So I'll be watching to see if the mechanics can share that information, because when the
08:22door is open, I'm a firm believer that you have to walk through it.
08:25Yeah, thank you, J.T.
08:27Yeah, so how is Hunter going to play it?
08:29RC, most of the year we have seen Hunter working from the front because of the good starts.
08:33Yeah, he is.
08:34I mean, he's been so dominant on the starts, getting the whole shot, leading, you know,
08:40the first half of the races, and you come to a track that is so start-dependent and
08:45you're not able to get up front, this could be huge of what maybe could have been, like
08:52Jason Thomas was telling us about, one track you want to get a good start at is this racetrack.
08:57And just unfortunate timing for Hunter Lawrence, but there's still so much racing left, and
09:04although you probably want to make up more points and be in the lead, a couple points
09:08is better than zero.
09:13So behind Lawrence, you'll have the veteran Frenchman Dillon Ferrandez, then it's Sexton,
09:19Kelli, Nicoletti, Craig and Norton round out the top ten, and he still has Anderson in
09:24sight, does Lawrence.
09:26There's the next rider in line.
09:28Looks like a pass has been made.
09:29That's not Ferrandez.
09:30That's Sexton.
09:31Sexton making up the move these next couple laps.
09:37Keep an eye on the timing and scoring, but there's a great view right there.
09:41Hunter Lawrence was exiting the whoops, or the rollers, and he just put in the fastest
09:47lap of the moto, 219.
09:51Sexton on the move now.
09:54Yeah, so first rider with the 219 lap time is Sexton.
10:00Last couple weeks, or I would say the last three or four weeks since Chet has been gone,
10:05I feel like there is a con with Chase Sexton to where he doesn't have to override the bike
10:10and have to worry about other guys getting too far out early on, because I believe the
10:15reason he's able to do that is because he knows that he has the speed on these guys,
10:21the strength on these guys will.
10:22Yeah, and the team there at Red Bull KTM, Rick, you're obviously there to support him
10:27through these remaining races now as he tries to navigate through that strategy, and it's
10:32obviously mental and physical, as we talk about so much.
10:35I got to speak to the director of racing, Roger da Costa, and said, you know, what's
10:39your vibe, what's your messaging to Chase Sexton at the moment?
10:42He said, most importantly is to stay calm.
10:45He said he's in a great place, our job is to keep him in that place, but he also did
10:49mention how proud he is of Chase and the whole team as far as how good he looks on the bike,
10:55how comfortable he is now as well, documented the struggles that they have when he went
11:00to this new team there at the beginning of the supercross season, and he said the gains
11:03are huge, and he said it's honestly a lot down to the relationship between the two as
11:08to where they've got to.
11:09Well, and for the number 14 of Dylan Ferenczuk, who finds himself right behind Chase Sexton
11:15here, he's been searching a lot throughout this season, brand-new team that he's joined
11:20in Phoenix Honda, and they've really been trying to sort out this Honda 450, but at
11:23a track like Washougal, the bike should work well, and the reason is the Honda turns really
11:29well, and in a track that doesn't have a lot of traction, there's a lot of very tight corners,
11:33here at Washougal, he's probably going to find more front end traction than some of
11:38the other motorcycles he's up against, so it doesn't surprise me at all to see him having
11:42a good day here at Washougal aboard that brand-new Honda.
11:45Thanks, J.T., and Ferrandez won this championship two years ago, second in the series last year,
11:52I guess three years ago, back to 2021 when he was champion.
11:56This has been a little below that standard.
11:58He took some time off midway through the supercross season, and battling a sickness,
12:06so had to take some time off the bike, but he has certainly found some form later on
12:11the pro motocross championship, and riding a little bit more like we know how Dylan Ferrandez
12:17can ride.
12:18And this team, Phoenix Honda, first go of it at this level, racing a 450 outdoors with
12:25a rider of Ferrandez's caliber.
12:28We're going to be joined in a moment by the NBC audience here in America, so we'll have
12:32a quick intro for them.
12:34You can, of course, keep watching here on Peacock as Plesinger has opened it up to over
12:38four seconds now over Justin Cooper.
12:41He's never won a moto in his career.
13:02In progress watching live super motocross world championship action, motocross motorcycles
13:08here for the motorsport dot com Washington National in Washington, Washington, about
13:13a half hour from Portland, Oregon, the race leader, Ohio's Aaron Plesinger.
13:18He is a fan favorite, but he has never won one of these 450 races in pro motocross.
13:23But, boy, does he look strong.
13:25Jason Wigand, Ricky Carmichael with the call.
13:27What do you see here, RC, on the number seven?
13:29Well, I'm watching a guy that looks extremely confident on his motorcycle, able to put that
13:34machine anywhere that he wants to, not making hardly any mistakes, not making, I mean, just
13:41absolutely executing, pulling away.
13:43He's got a four and a half second lead, still a little over halfway to go here.
13:48He keeps reeling on some laps like this.
13:49He's going to have a very comfortable lead.
13:53And the rider he's leading is the one out of New York, Justin Cooper, second on the
13:57number 32, the monster Yamaha star racing machine.
14:02These are two riders that have been battling for third in a lot of the races as of late.
14:05Hunter Lawrence battling for wins his third today.
14:08Here he is on the red.
14:09And then it's Jason Anderson here in green on the Kawasaki fourth.
14:12And he got two rookies.
14:14Two rookies in the second and third place in this race right now with Justin Cooper
14:19like you were talking about, Hunter Lawrence in that third position.
14:22Now, keep in mind, Hunter Lawrence only 13 points behind Chase Sexton for this championship.
14:28And we are only now seeing Sexton right there on the orange Red Bull KTM number four.
14:32He's been dominant as of late, but not a good start in this race.
14:36He's in fifth, and he has not really been able to see the leaders until about now.
14:39Well, you're watching a very dominant rider, hence the 13-point lead that he has over Hunter
14:46Lawrence, number four on that Red Bull KTM ride.
14:49And this is an incredible athlete, the strength that he has, the cardiovascular strength that
14:54he has.
14:55And when you look at this new Red Bull KTM machine this year, he looks extremely comfortable.
15:00I love the balance of the motorcycle.
15:02When I talk about the balance of the motorcycle, I feel like the front and rear has a nice
15:07profile to it, like the front end isn't too low or the rear end isn't too low.
15:12And this guy has just been an expert all season long in the pro motocross championship.
15:16And look at this.
15:17Ricky's trying to make a pass on Jason Anderson to the top of what they call horsepower hill.
15:23He's on the inside!
15:26Anderson able to hold him back.
15:28Very tough racetrack to get by.
15:29He's going to have to be crafty of where he can make the move.
15:33Watch as he tries to get creative, taking different lines.
15:36Trying to leap around the outside, and he makes it happen!
15:44An unbelievable pass by Chase Exxon, fully commits to the outside to go around and make
15:51the move by the number 21 of Jason Anderson.
15:54He holds the gas on a lot longer, goes around that at the bump, that little jump, single
15:59jump on the inside.
16:00He's able to carry the speed and make the move.
16:03And what's critical now, Hunter Lawrence in red on the 96th is catching second place Justin
16:10Cooper.
16:11And he has to.
16:12He needs to stay ahead of Sexton to try to make championship points back on him.
16:18by the ten-time pro motocross champion Ricky Carmichael, Will Christian and Jason Thomas
16:23providing a reporting from the racetrack, and we're halfway through the 30-minute and
16:28two-lap race.
16:29A reminder that monster energy available now at Fred Meyer.
16:33Here's the famous group section, this series of jumps headed toward the finish line section.
16:40Hunter is closing on Cooper for second.
16:45We've talked about this racetrack and why the difficulties and challenges is to make
16:50passes.
16:51This is a great view from the drone.
16:54All the fast lines just funnel into the inside, and all these guys are taking the preferred
16:59lines.
17:00That's what makes it so challenging.
17:01So to make a pass for everyone just tuned in here to NBC, these guys are going to have
17:06to get aggressive.
17:07And when that door opens up to make a move, they're going to have to pounce on it immediately
17:11and walk through it, because if they don't, they may not get another opportunity to make
17:16a move.
17:17So keep your eyes on just those.
17:19We'll give you an idea of when we can see a potential pass.
17:22Big leap from Sexton in orange, the third rider on the screen.
17:25He is catching this battle for second place in a hurry.
17:29The man who's won the last five races in this championship.
17:33Well you think about that in the 96 of Hunter Lawrence, he knows what's at stake right here.
17:38All these points and positions matter.
17:40Going for it.
17:41He's got the inside on Cooper.
17:42Cooper is going to try to fight back.
17:44He'll be on the inside of the next turn.
17:46Not enough.
17:47Hunter Lawrence making passes.
17:49What a great pass by Hunter Lawrence going up horsepower hill, getting a better drive.
17:53That pass initiated from a better drive coming out of that corner before the horsepower hill
17:59and powers by Justin Cooper.
18:02Oh, and Sexton has Cooper as well.
18:07And you see the aggression right here between these two riders of the 96 of Hunter Lawrence
18:12and the number four of chase Sexton.
18:14These are the guys that are first and second in the championship.
18:17Hunter Lawrence understands what's at stake here and to keep ahead of chase Sexton, try
18:23to beat him in this moto to gain as many points as possible.
18:28Several minutes and two laps remain.
18:30Sexton closing on Lawrence and Aaron Flesinger in the lead has never won one of these pro
18:35motocross motos.
18:48And for our fans watching on peacock or the smx video pass, stay with us.
18:52You get to enjoy the sounds and sights of Washougal as Sexton closes.
18:58On Lawrence.
20:58Smx from Washougal, Washington, Aaron Flesinger, he might be the most popular rider in the
21:23championship.
21:24The cowboy off the track.
21:26Oh, Hunter Lawrence from second has gone down.
21:31Trying to hold off his championship rival chase Sexton.
21:38Sexton will inherit the number two spot.
21:40Is there time for him to run Flesinger down?
21:44And what happened to Lawrence?
21:47For the man, the rookie running second in the points championship leading in front of
21:56chase Sexton.
21:57The points leader.
21:58Watch the inside.
21:59He's been going to the inside here.
22:00And as he does, he goes into the corner and the bike gets a little bit light and at the
22:05same time he's leaning to initiate the corner and as he does that, there's nothing for the
22:10bike to lean into.
22:11The tires give way.
22:12Down he goes.
22:13Costly mistake by Hunter Lawrence.
22:14Yes, because Ricky, he not only lost a spot to Sexton, but Justin Cooper and Jason Anderson
22:22have gotten by him as well and that would be a huge difference in the series standings
22:26if he ends up fifth instead of second.
22:29But the story now, you see, if it ends, the 13-point lead for Sexton would become an 18-point
22:35lead.
22:36But the fans at Washougal, they're only concerned with this.
22:41They want to see Aaron Flesinger bring this thing home.
22:44This guy has been riding phenomenal all moto long.
22:47He's riding great last week at Millville and just had some unfortunate crashes.
22:53He didn't stay off the ground, but he is making it happen today.
22:57Got a really great start and has led this race from the beginning, wire to wire.
23:03No one's really in his zone right now.
23:05However, keep your eye on the number four of chase Sexton because that guy has been
23:10known to put in some incredible rides, especially late in the race.
23:14We're watching Justin Cooper back to third place right now on the 32 out of Long Island,
23:22New York.
23:23And then the rider from New Mexico, Jason Anderson, is close behind him in green on
23:26the Kawasaki.
23:27A good fight for a spot on the podium in this race.
23:30Oh, man, these lappers.
23:32Coming up on these lappers, they can be challenging sometimes because they're in a race, too,
23:38and they don't always move out of the way.
23:41However, Justin Cooper getting through there pretty quick, not losing any time.
23:46And he's reinherited that third spot there, Ricky, which for Justin Cooper, much like
23:51a few of the other guys, but for different reasons, is very important because he's in
23:55a place with his contract there with monster energy, Yamaha star racing, where he's looking
24:00to get it renewed.
24:01And a lot of that is incentive based, is based on how many overall podiums he's got.
24:06Now, he's got big teammates, as we know, Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb, multi-time champions.
24:12So he wants to stay in that spot.
24:14He told me he's feeling pretty confident about where he's at with the team.
24:17The team are happy with his performance and where he's got to, especially as a rookie
24:21this year.
24:22You know he wants to check that box to ensure that new contract.
24:26Wow.
24:27Definitely his teammates, Eli Tomac, Cooper Webb, champions in their own right, both supercross
24:31and motocross.
24:32And I'm going to tell you right, they cast a big shadow.
24:36But he's doing great as a rookie, and I think for a third guy on a race team like monster
24:41energy star racing, Yamaha, he's so reliable, doing a great job.
24:45Yeah.
24:46And those teammates are out currently, each with injured thumbs, both Webb and Tomac.
24:50So it's up to Cooper to put the Yamaha on the podium now.
24:53Hey, SNX fans, you can experience the most immersive race day scene in motorsports.

25:13SNX playoffs, which take place in September.
25:19Battle brewing now.
25:20Anderson on the 21.
25:23He has not let Cooper go.
25:25Talk about those SMX playoffs coming up in September.
25:31Jason Anderson looking really good in the SMX points championship, going to have a great
25:36opportunity to go into the playoffs at a very high seed, which will help him, no doubt.
25:44We take the monster energy supercross standings, the indoor stadium races, and then here pro
25:49motocross, combine those together to create a seeding for the playoffs.
25:53Anderson has made every round this year, hasn't had many bad races, even though he doesn't
25:57have a win.
25:58Uh-oh.
26:00Sexton has cut the gap in half to Plessinger.
26:04It was about five seconds.
26:06Now it's about two and a half.
26:09Can Plessinger hold on and get his first ever 450 moto win?
26:18It's going to be close.
26:19So once again, on break on NBC, we'll stay with the action and you can listen in as we
26:36head toward the stretch road, pro motocross at washington.
29:02He's responding to the challenge of his teammate, chase Sexton.
29:06It's a pair of KTMs running one, two, and you can win one of those KTMs for yourself.
29:10It is the two-stroke model, the KTM 250SX, courtesy of the folks at motosport.com.
29:16Just scan the QR code on the screen now or go to motosport.com slash win for your opportunity
29:23to get that motorcycle.
29:25Stretch run now, Ricky Carmichael.
29:27Can Aaron Plessinger hold on?
29:29Well, he might because I'm just looking at the lap times right now.
29:32He just set his fastest lap at a 219.7 at a perfect opportunity in the race with only
29:39about three laps left.
29:40With the teammates battling, Ricky, and I'm in the mechanics area and I'm here with Red
29:45Bull KTM's crew chief, Carlos Rivera, and just asking how does this look like for him?
29:50He's got his two guys out there, one closing on the other one going for a championship,
29:54the other going for his first win.
29:56I said how do you balance that?
29:57He said, look, I just give them the equipment, the best equipment we can possibly give them.
30:01They have to figure it out after that, but under the tent here, guys, there's nerves.
30:07That's understandable.
30:08For Sexton, he wants maximum points, wants to win every race.
30:12For Plessinger, it would be his first ever win.
30:14We go back to round two at Hagtown in California in May.
30:18Plessinger led Sexton until four turns to go in the race and Sexton ripped it away.
30:24That was one of the races that we were talking about at the top of the show where he has
30:28just put in some incredible rides.
30:30It was that race.
30:31When he's in one of those modes, Jason, there is just no way you're going to beat this guy.
30:37That's what Plessinger might be up against now.
30:39About as close as it has been.
30:42Three to go.
30:43The clock did not expire.
30:45Two laps to go.
30:46The sign will come out the next time around.
30:49This is just the first of four races today.
30:53Stay with us on Peacock.
30:54You want to watch the 250 class with all the young stars of this sport and then the second
30:59450 moto.
31:00But right now, two laps.
31:01Oh, no.
31:02He stole the motorcycle.
31:03He got it refired.
31:04But Sexton is going to try to make the pass.
31:05He does.
31:06Chase Sexton in the lead.
31:07Oh, another heartbreaker for the 7.
