00:00For Tom, the mission was clear coming in.
00:04He had to win this overall.
00:06Now, Hayden Deegan beat him square and fair in the first moto, but Tom said he was ready
00:10to man up and give him a big fight in the second moto.
00:13Every time Hayden Deegan has said something, he's backed it up.
00:16Now it's time for Tom to do exactly the same thing.
00:19As for chance, he spent a lot of time at a famous public riding area in Florida called
00:27preparing for this, but he said there the weather is so hot he had to get in early in
00:30the morning, get out, really had to balance working in the sand, but not overworking it
00:35so he'd still have enough energy for the race weekend.
00:38We'll see how much he has left physically for moto two after a good run again third
00:43in moto one.
00:44The race duration will be 30 minutes and two laps, 40 riders on the gate, and you see Deegan
00:50and Vial lined up elbow to elbow.
00:52They were one, two, and moto one.
00:55Yeah, you see Tom Vial on the outside of Hayden, and we know how fast those star racing Yamahas
01:02are, so it seems like you'd be at a disadvantage, so Tom has to beat Hayden off the gate, maybe
01:07do what he thought chance did to cut him off the gate or do something because it looks
01:11like if Hayden's out front or even close, he's going to be tough to beat.
01:15Deegan won the first moto by 15 seconds.
01:18There was a brief mid-moto flurry from Vial.
01:21See if he can bring it the whole time now.
01:23What can Anstey do, a great sand rider but never had a chance to show what he had after
01:28the bike problems early.
01:29Right now the focus in this championship, no doubt, is on Deegan, who has won three
01:34of the first four overalls this year.
01:36Can he make it four out of five?
01:39Yeah.
01:40Remember what Tom said in that podium.
01:41He said he was resting up after he knew Hayden was going to be gone, so he's waiting for
01:45the second moto.
01:46Well, here it is.
01:47It's a big buildup right here, Vial, who won this race a year ago.
01:50The Frenchman, the two-time world champ, Deegan, the point leader.
01:55Fly racing, 32nd card is up.
01:57These guys are fired up.
02:03Here we go, moto 2, 250s.
02:14Levi Kitson, a good jump on the 47.
02:17The Kawasaki man is going to lead.
02:21Great jump by Levi Kitson.
02:26You saw how hard Hayden Deegan ran it in because of Tom, but Tom was able to square up on the
02:30inside and get around him.
02:32Chance Hymus is in second, Tom Vial, and Hayden Deegan.
02:35This is exactly what we needed.
02:37Let's see what Deegan does.
02:38Can he try to get Vial early?
02:40All the rivals are up there.
02:42Hymus second, Kitson in the lead, Sabachi, good in moto one, fifth, battling Deegan.
02:48He found that first moto, we saw him get past in the beginning part, but it looked
02:51like he found this rhythm halfway through that moto to start running some good lap times.
02:56Maybe for him he's figured out this racetrack, Adam.
03:01Levi is notorious leading from the front.
03:04If you remember before he really made a step up this year and started winning consistently,
03:09he could be seventh the weekend before and then get the whole shot the next weekend and
03:13win by ten seconds.
03:15This is exactly what Levi Kitson needs to sway the momentum in his favor.
03:20We'll see if he can take this one all the way to the checkered flag.
03:23Got to say, Adam, when he was at mid-season in monster energy, super cross, becoming dominant,
03:29he was hole shotting every race.
03:30The starts have gone away, the results have gone away.
03:33Now he's got the starts again and starting to pull away again in the 47.
03:37Although he hasn't been out front here in a few weeks, he knows what that feeling is
03:41like.
03:42So we expect him to not be too nervous, not like the first time he's been out here.
03:45As you said, last year we saw a tenth place in the first moto and a dominating performance
03:50on the second one and winning.
03:51It will be interesting to see if he can hold that off.
03:53Looks good right now.
03:54Fourth in moto one, as you see there, Hymus right behind him and then Dillon Deegan.
03:59That will be interesting to watch as it was Deegan right ahead of these three early in
04:04moto one.
04:08What I'm seeing from Levi, getting a little bit of a gap over Jansen.
04:12We got a red flag.
04:13Oh, red flag.
04:15We are headed toward a restart.
04:17Julian Beaumare has gone down.
04:20It's a crash on that first rise off the start.
04:27And obviously this is for safety precautions.
04:29They don't want the riders to have to come back through that section where they're attending
04:32to a rider.
04:35And we hope for the best here.
04:37Looks like he must have crashed going the opposite way, going back up after the start.
04:43You can see him in the middle of our screen right here.
04:47That's a tough break for the rookie, the 17-year-old out of Arizona.
04:52He's moving around.
04:53I can see him from here.
04:54That's a good sign.
04:55He's still laying on the ground.
04:57Tough break, though, for kitchen, who had that start that he needed.
05:01Everybody just goes back to the line.
05:02They'll just re-rack it and run the same gate start again.
05:06But certainly the main thing is hoping that Beaumare is okay.
05:10Yeah, it's a tough break for even Tom Bial and all these guys because they were ahead
05:15of Hayden Deegan.
05:16I think we were going to have a race there.
05:20Take a break here at Southwick and try to get you an update on what's happened on the
05:25racetrack and get ready for the restart.
05:27250 moto 2.
05:29We'll line it up.
05:30At Southwick to begin.
05:31We actually had a red flag restart situation here.
05:34Julian Beaumare went down.
05:36This will be a full restart.
05:37We'll do the full race length and the regular gate start.
05:41We certainly hope for the best for the young Julian Beaumare who went down there about
05:47quarter of a lap into the first lap.
05:50Title combatants here like Hayden Deegan and Tom Bial and Levi kitchen, who was leading
05:56until the restart.
05:58We will see.
05:59I always like to use this term.
06:00Will justice be served?
06:01Will kitchen get another hole shot and be right where he was?
06:05We'll find out in a moment.
06:10Everybody else taking their spots.
06:16I believe Beaumare is going to take a ride with the alpine stars mobile medics.
06:20It's a great service we have at all the races with doctors on hand.
06:24They've got essentially a mobile hospital on site with a semi in the pits.
06:30You got to wonder how Tom and Levi, how do they feel about being in front of Hayden because
06:35it's the first time for a while for those guys.
06:38Absolutely.
06:39We'll send it down to Jason Thomas.
06:44Lars Lundstrom, listen, you guys have had a lot of success here.
06:47I was thinking about the prep for this race.
06:49Chan Thomas has never been here and obviously had a little bit of difficulty with Hunter
06:53Lawrence here.
06:54Last year this track put such a load on these 250 engines.
06:56Were there any preparations or things you guys did differently in light of last year's
07:01struggle?
07:02Yeah, definitely.
07:03I mean, that's why we keep really good notes and, you know, so that we can prepare for
07:07another year here.
07:09Luckily, this weather that we're having today, which is awesome for the racers and for the
07:14fans, is not as hard.
07:16You know, last year was a pretty hot one, but we did make some preparations and, you
07:22know, we had figured out kind of then what had happened, so I'm pretty confident this
07:26year.
07:27Good job.
07:28And we're going to switch over to Jensen Hendler.
07:30Jensen, you guys have had a lot of success.
07:32Obviously came up and tested.
07:33Can you walk us through that process of getting up here a week early, spending time, and obviously
07:38the success that Hayden Deegan seems to have in light of that?
07:41Yeah, I mean, we reached out to the track.
07:43They were open.
07:44Said, yeah, come up, no problem.
07:46So we decided to come up.
07:47I'm not sure why everyone else wasn't here, but it was beneficial.
07:51Hayden learned a lot, and obviously you saw from the first moto, and his comments after
07:56the moto were that it was easy.
07:58So hopefully this next one is just as easy.
08:00So when you come up and do a test like that, are you working on chassis stuff?
08:04Is there any engine wear things you're worried about, or is it more just to get Hayden track
08:08time so he feels more comfortable when he shows up for year two of his career?
08:12Yeah, a little bit of both.
08:13I mean, the engine department, they have their stuff dialed.
08:16They weren't worried about that, but a little bit of chassis stuff and work on Hayden's
08:20technique here.
08:21Obviously last year wasn't his best race here.
08:23So we thought, hey, let's go up there, get some time on the track, learn something, and
08:27I think we learned a lot.
08:28So we're happy.
08:29Thanks, Jensen.
08:30And we will send it over to Adam Cinterillo.
08:33And as a racer, every time you go to the gate, you have a plan.
08:37You have an order of operation, what you're going to do on the first lap, how you're going
08:40to attack the race.
08:41And I can promise you that plan does not include doing one lap and coming back to the gate.
08:46So it can put you in a bit of a panic mindset.
08:48You've got to change your goggles, get some water, maybe another energy gel, set your
08:52whole shot device.
08:53There's a lot of things you have to get done, but you can't let it get you in a chaotic
08:57mindset.
08:58You have to stick to your process, lock back in, and reset.
09:02Thanks, Adam.
09:04Thanks, J.T.
09:05We do hear that Juju Bumeyer did wave to the crowd while he was taking a ride off on the
09:10Alpine star's medical cart.
09:11So hopefully he's okay long term.
09:14Let's get ready for the second 250 moto.
09:18It's actually a restart.
09:19We had a crash.
09:20Red flag.
09:21Juju Bumeyer waves to the crowd, but he will not participate in this moto.
09:25Now it is Mark Finnis signaling for time, but they don't do that anymore.
09:33So the riders have to lock in.
09:35It is, again, a restart, and this will be the second and final 250 moto of the day in
09:39pro motocross.
09:41And Mark Finnis' bike being pushed behind the start gate.
09:44It is not fired.
09:46It's a rider that led the second moto of our previous race.
09:49Time's up, boys.
09:5030-second car from fly racing is up, and we're about to go a full race distance, 30 minutes
09:57and two laps in the sand of south wing.
10:08And there, first and second in the first moto.
10:11But we'll be the order this time.
10:15Here we go.
10:21Levi kensin has got the motosport.com hole shot.
10:25Deegan right next to him.
10:28Better start for Joe Shimoda on the Honda right there.
10:30First time we've seen him.
10:31Oh, Deegan, a huge scrub, and gets the lead.
10:35Whoa, that was close.
10:37That was close.
10:38He was going to scrub.
10:39That was a huge save by Hayden Deegan.
10:44Wow.
10:45But great move.
10:46Power move.
10:47And gets the lead from Kensin.
10:49The owl fends off Shimoda for third.
10:51Now, they had started this race one other time.
10:53It got restarted because of a crash.
10:57Kensin was out front.
10:58He got the hole shot again.
10:59But this time Deegan gets around.
11:00Yeah, Hayden wants to be out front so he can replicate what happened at first moto, but
11:04it almost ended really quick right there.
11:07That was a nice save by him.
11:08But let's see what Tom Vial does.
11:10He knows he needs to be up there with Hayden Deegan, so let's see if he can get around
11:14Levi kitchen.
11:15But Levi's been riding good all day.
11:16I think he got better at doing that first moto, maybe figured out some lines.
11:20He's going to have to do it to keep up with Hayden.
11:22Vial in third in orange.
11:24Yeah, took him too long to get to second in moto one to have any shot.
11:30And right now kitchen riding well in second of the monster pro circuit, Kawasaki in green.
11:36And Hayden Deegan, the reason he wanted to be out front, because vision is such a premium
11:39here at this racetrack.
11:40It's kind of like the mud races.
11:42When it's raining outside, you want to be out front.
11:45So here at southwick, there is no difference.
11:47So Hayden has an advantage just because he's ahead of these guys, and that's why you saw
11:51the sense of urgency and that chance, that huge scrub that he almost didn't make, but
11:55he did.
11:56Was it the same jump in moto one that he was airing out?
12:00Yeah, it was the same jump, and they fixed it a little bit.
12:02I think Hayden was going for the scrub, and here at southwick, as I was saying, it's slippery
12:07out there, and he just lost both ends and almost went down, A.C.
12:12As we were talking about earlier, if you get in a position where you're a little bit behind
12:16and you have to ride more aggressive on a track like this, it becomes way easier to
12:20make mistakes.
12:21So for Levi kitchen, if he can get around Hayden Deegan quickly, strike back quickly,
12:27and yeah, maybe make him eat a little roost, I think that's his best shot.
12:32He's got to strike quick.
12:33Once Deegan gets a little breathing room, it could be over for these guys.
12:36It was in moto one, Adam, and it looked like kitchen was there, and then quickly Deegan
12:41stretches it back out.
12:43Let's see if those guys picked up to this line Hayden does, this is where he scrubbed.
12:46You see how much farther he jumps than everyone else, and look at the gap that he's able to
12:50pull in front of those guys, and he's just doing it, and it's a lot easier on his body
12:55by doing that.
12:56So those guys are going to have to pick up on that, otherwise he's going to keep pulling
12:59away.
13:00You can see the aggressiveness from Tom Vial.
13:02He's being a little bit more sense of urgency this moto than he was, because he sees that
13:05number 38 getting away from him already.
13:08And Shimoda hanging tough in fourth.
13:11Savace is fifth.
13:12Let's see if Tom gets up.
13:15He goes around the outside, now he has a run right here on Levi.
13:19Strong move now.
13:20He's got to get back to the inside.
13:21Nice move by Tom Vial.
13:23So Vial in second.
13:24When he got to second in the first moto, he was nearly seven seconds off the lead.
13:28Now only 1.6.
13:31Now this is a race we wanted to see, because Tom in that first moto, he had the same pace
13:35as Hayden and actually started closing it in, but that seven seconds, as you just mentioned,
13:39it was too far of a gap and too many chances he had to take.
13:42So let's see.
13:43He wanted to be here.
13:44He said it.
13:45He recouped after that first moto halfway through it once he lost that tow.
13:49It's all about second moto.
13:50The battle is on.
13:51For the moto win and the overall, if Vial were to get Deegan, he would win the overall
13:56a 2-1, 1-2.
13:58Ty goes to the better second moto, so it's all on the line right now.
14:02Send it to Jason Thomas.
14:04Lurking behind that pack right there is the number 30 of Joe Shimoda, who was dead last
14:08in the first moto, but climbed all the way back to the top ten.
14:12Let's not forget last year, he won a moto here.
14:14Very quietly.
14:15It wasn't talked about.
14:16It's all been about Hayden, Deegan and Tom Vial coming in, but Joe Shimoda was very,
14:20very fast here, and he's got an opportunity here in moto two.
14:23I think it was 6-1 in the moto scores last year, Shimoda.
14:28There he is in fourth.
14:29Yeah, it might take Joe a couple laps to figure out the pace of these leaders because, yeah,
14:35he rode good, and he was able to come all the way up to the top ten, but he wasn't on
14:38the pace because he didn't see it as Hayden, Deegan, so usually when that happens, it takes
14:42you a couple laps in the second moto if you haven't been up front to just get a feel of
14:47what these guys.
14:48You can start attacking, so we'll probably see that from Joe as he's closing in on Levi.
14:53Sivacci fifth.
14:54Master pull sixth.
14:55Jordan Smith, DeFrancisco and Kasey Cochran round out the top ten about five minutes into
15:02this second moto for the 250s, and Shimoda's definitely putting the pressure on kitchen.
15:15Looking out right ahead.
15:16Tom Vial is closed in right on the back of Hayden Deegan, so maybe what he was saying
15:21is right and true, this moto looks good.
15:24Two battles to watch.
15:25This one, second and third, and like you said, up front, Vial trying to battle Deegan this
15:31time.
15:34How much different is this track from what we've seen earlier today?
15:38It's quite a bit different from these guys.
15:40I think it's a lot closer to the first moto than it was the difference between practice
15:44and that first moto, so these guys should feel pretty comfortable.
15:47Just the bumps a little bit bigger, but I like what I'm seeing after Tom Vial starting
15:51to pick up his lines on Hayden Deegan, and maybe he did have something for Hayden Deegan.
15:55He just got caught up behind those lappers, and right now we're going to find out.
16:00Let's see how aggressive he is.
16:01Hayden's been talking a lot.
16:03There's a lot of noise and chitchat, and to me, the title for Tom Vial, unless something
16:08happens to Hayden Deegan, his title hopes is right here in this moto and beating Hayden
16:13Deegan as far as the mindset.
16:17Battle in the bottom.
16:18That is the Shimoda.
16:19We've got Shimoda in kitchen, then Stavace in master pool, who we're going to watch here,
16:23fifth and sixth, and then Hymus, seventh.
16:27Hymus third in the first moto, not as good a start this time.
16:30Deegan has stretched it back out.
16:32Tom Vial made a mistake, and as we've been talking all day, that 1.5 was really one mistake
16:38in the corner, just sliding out, so he's got to go back to work, and that's why being out
16:42front, besides just the vision, is so key here, because now he has to take those chances
16:47and catch Hayden Deegan, and clearly he can do that, but what is the risk of doing that?
16:52We're going to find out.
16:53You mean to go fast enough to catch him, he's got to risk a little more?
16:56Yeah, he's got to risk a little bit more, because clearly he has the pace, but as he
17:00makes one mistake, you just lose a second here and there, and besides the time, it's
17:05just demoralizing.
17:06It's hard work.
17:07Now you've got to regroup and do it again, but I want to see if Tom picks up on this
17:11line, because this is where Hayden Deegan has been faster than everybody else by jumping
17:14out, and the lap before, Tom didn't do that.
17:17You see, Hayden jumps a little bit farther, and just look at the time difference that
17:21he loses, so Tom's definitely going to have to pick up on that line and just jump farther.
17:26Oh, Deegan tips over, and Vial off the track, but able to take the lead, and he puts his
17:33hand up.
17:34Oh, and Deegan, more problems getting up.
17:37Vial wants to make absolutely sure he doesn't get penalized, and Deegan's got to fix the
17:44clutch lever on the bike, hammer it on the handlebars there.
17:48Well, that was a big change.
17:50That was a huge change, and this is what we talked about as far as riders having to put
17:55Jett Lawrence and Hayden Deegan in that spot, make them have to ride harder, and Tom Vial,
18:00by being close, by being there, push Hayden, because we saw earlier, he would just take
18:05his time going to that corner.
18:06He pushed it down there, lost the front end.
18:08Can happen easily here at south wake, but you got to believe that crash was a little
18:13bit of Tom Vial being there.
18:15Here we go.
18:16It's going to be the next corner.
18:17Yeah, everything looks good.
18:18He's pushing down there.
18:19Tom Vial is still right there, and he just tucks the front end.
18:22That's what you call burying the front end, burying that bike in here.
18:25He just lost it.
18:26The bike stops because of how deep this sand is, and he was down on the ground.
18:31Everything looks good.
18:33Burns there.
18:34Now sticks right there.
18:36You can tell he was a little bit wider than he wanted to be.
18:40As you can see, that front tire actually going over that burn.
18:42Did he want to be more where Vial was?
18:44Yeah.
18:45He wanted to be a little bit lower because the burn blows away, but the reason he was
18:48in there as deep as he was because of Tom Vial was close on him.
18:52Just rushing a little bit, and there you go.
18:54He's on the ground.
18:55Now let's get him back up to the gate.
18:57Let's see if he can come back up.
18:58All right.
18:59Yeah.
19:00That's Tom Vial's race to lose as Deegan tries to battle his way back forward.
19:18Deegan already making moves.
19:19Did he already get master pool there?
19:21Yeah.
19:22I don't know if Ty actually got around him or Hayden stayed in front.
19:25Either way, this is where the pass matters.
19:29I think there's a lot of pressure on Tom Vial now because Hayden didn't go down.
19:33I think it's a lot harder for him to be where he's at now and having Hayden so far back
19:38than if Hayden, he would have just passed him and Hayden would have been there because
19:41now we saw Hayden beat ten seconds back and catch those guys.
19:44So Tom Vial somewhat is going to be riding behind him until the end of this race because
19:49of the history and how strong Hayden is at the end of the motors.
19:52As you're watching Hymus and master pool in a great battle sixth and seventh.
19:57Last week Deegan made a huge time late in the motors.
20:01Do you think Vial might be thinking about that?
20:03Absolutely.
20:04Sometimes I felt like it was easier once the guy was just on you.
20:08You knew exactly what he was doing.
20:09Now Tom has to wonder, okay, he went down.
20:13Was I faster than him?
20:14Is the guy, does he got more pace?
20:16Now he doesn't know that because Hayden went down and now Hayden has to catch him compared
20:20to just passing him and, look, I just know I'm quicker.
20:24You're going to find out in the next couple of laps how strong Tom is and how he's feeling.
20:28If he can pull away from Joe Shimoda and keep that gap, I think he'll be fine.
20:32If Hayden closes that gap, Tom is going to be riding behind him and I wouldn't be surprised
20:36if you see that number 38 battling for the lead towards the end.
20:40Max Anstey got our first look at him.
20:42Had the struggles in moto one where the bike got hit in the first turn and couldn't even
20:47do a lap.
20:48Jordan Smith on the 31 there as well.
20:50He's battling it out with Hymus.
20:53Reset the order.
20:54It's Vial, Shimoda, kitchen, Savage fourth, Deegan up to fifth and he's already closing
21:01on Savage.
21:02You have Hayden wants a chance.
21:04He's got to make sure he clears these guys, doesn't get stuck behind him as visions of
21:09premium A.C.
21:10With Deegan going down like that, there's two ways you can respond as a rider.
21:17You can say in your head, oh, man, I just ruined my perfect day.
21:22Everything was going great and while you're out there moping around, everybody is going
21:25by you.
21:26Or you can have an offensive mentality, focus on what's in front of you and do your best.
21:31I really see that same aggression I saw before from Hayden.
21:34It looks like he took a lap or two to regroup but he's right back to it.
21:39That's just attitude.
21:40That's just natural, his natural kind of disposition to just go for it.
21:45This is a must win now for Vial.
21:49Looks like a quick pass.
21:51Deegan is already around Savage.
21:52If I have this right, I think he got Hymus, master pole and Savage now since the crash.
21:59I want to check the lap times.
22:02Deegan at 217.
22:03Vial has dropped the hammer.
22:04He dropped a 215 down.
22:07If you look at the time, it was nine seconds.
22:09It's still around that same time as ten seconds now.
22:13I think Hayden is mad.
22:15He's going to want to prove that narrative that, okay, Tom didn't pressure me into going
22:20to mistake.
22:21I just made a mistake.
22:22We saw how he reacted a few weeks ago when Tom got around him.
22:25He wanted to do everything to get back around.
22:29I think that's what you're starting to see.
22:31To me, Hayden is probably going to ride as quick as he did all day long.
22:34If he's going to stay up on the motorcycle, we'll find out.
22:36His attitude is to go back and try to win this race.
22:39He did it at high point.
22:40He came for the back both times at our last race.
22:43He knows he can do it.
22:45He is almost up to kitchen third.
22:48There's still a lot of racing left.
22:5017 minutes and two laps.
22:54Adam, what are you thinking down there?
23:01James, I wanted to ask you, we know that Hayden Diegan isn't scared to be himself on the podium
23:08in the interviews.
23:09There's no doubt he's getting under these guys' skin.
23:12In a situation like this where he talks the talk and something like this happens, do you
23:17think it puts more pressure on him?
23:19Do you think he feels that or do you think he's just naturally go for it and only focused
23:25on what's in front of him?
23:27I do think it puts more pressure on him to talk the talk and back it up.
23:32I think with Hayden here, it's more of the everything that you've been saying.
23:39These guys think they have a chance.
23:42The one narrative he doesn't want is anyone feeling like they can pressure him to make
23:47mistakes.
23:48To me, I think Hayden is riding with that, look, I need to be back up front.
23:53It puts pressure on him.
23:54I think he's riding to stop what's possibly going to happen in the future.
23:59Some guys buckle under pressure.
24:01I don't think Hayden does that in this situation.
24:04It is because of his attitude, but Hayden Deegan is riding like a man on a mission.
24:09There you go.
24:10And the mechanic, Brent Duffey, puts on the pit board, catching 16.
24:14That's the leader.
24:15They're motivating their guy.
24:17250 moto 2, pro moto across from southwick in the smx world championship.
24:24Hayden Deegan crashed while leading.
24:26He is now caught third place rider, Levi kitchen.
24:29Tom Fialdo out front looking to capitalize.
24:33And Joe Shimoda was the fastest rider on the track that last lap.
24:36But that answers your question right there.
24:39The mechanic, he knows where Hayden's mind is set.
24:42They're not even worried about Levi kitchen and Joe Shimoda.
24:45He's putting on there 16.
24:47So that's telling you where Hayden is going, where his team believes and how important
24:50his win is.
24:51If he can still get there, he's going to try to go up the inside of Levi.
24:55Levi closes that door.
24:57Nice move.
24:58Last time around, Deegan was a tenth quicker than Fialdo and Shimoda was a tenth quicker
25:02than Deegan.
25:03So Shimoda in second riding well also as kitchen tries to fend Deegan off.
25:09About halfway through this one.
25:12Yeah, Levi's definitely riding better than he did that first moto.
25:17You can tell he's getting a little bit more flow.
25:19So for him, that's good to see.
25:21He's starting to stop that train of Hayden Deegan.
25:24And truthfully, I feel like there's more pressure on Tom Vial than it is on Hayden
25:28at this point.
25:29Because now Tom's supposed to win this race and now it's going to be up to Hayden to see
25:32if he can stop it.
25:33So Hayden got a good points lead.
25:36So he's riding a little bit free.
25:37He has a little bit of buffer room.
25:38But you can tell he's trying.
25:39He's making some mistakes.
25:40But Levi's doing a good job of holding him off.
25:48Deegan trying to set up around the outside of this next left-hand turn.
25:53He made moves here earlier.
25:55Can he close it off?
25:57He's got it.
25:58Oh, that pass was done.
25:59You can see that one coming.
26:00Hayden's got that roll speed, that momentum, and he's charging.
26:04A lot of that comes from what your mechanic just put on the pit board.
26:07It tells you as a rider, your mindset when your mechanic puts captain 16, the leader,
26:12it just tells you that they want you up front.
26:14So it keeps you racing forward, not even in the guy in front of you.
26:20More than a second quicker than the leader when you look at the lap times.
26:241.2 seconds quicker than Vial.
26:26The fans now getting into it.
26:28Let's check back in with Vial.
26:31I think Tom is going to hopefully change his lines right up here because he's still losing
26:35that time, not jumping all the way down where Hayden was.
26:39That's where Hayden went down that first moto.
26:41But Hayden, if he starts closing that gap, oh, boy, you're going to see a little beast
26:46mode junior come out 38.
26:48We've seen that before.
26:49We know how that one ends.
26:51That's hard to hold.
26:52Old beast mode Eli Tomac back.
26:56Look at Vial hopping the bumps.
26:59He's got a lot of experience in the sand, the two-time world champion from France.
27:03They run a lot of sand over there in Europe.
27:08Send it to Adam.
27:11Sometimes when you get a lead like Tom Vial did when he saw Hayden Degan crash like that,
27:17sometimes you can go into a bit of, you know, that's his main competition.
27:19You can go to a bit of kind of conservative mode, just kind of checking your lead and
27:25riding not at 100%.
27:27What happens with somebody like Hayden who is ripping through the field, if he starts
27:31getting closer and all of a sudden he has to up the pace towards the end of the moto,
27:35that's going to be really difficult to do if he is just managing the race.
27:40Hopefully the mechanics on the pit board telling him that Degan is still in this thing because
27:45he's coming.
27:46This is a must-see TV.
27:48We're here for it, no doubt.
27:49Don't count out Shimoda who is running the same pace as well in second.
27:54Degan would still have to go after him before he could even think about Vial, although we
27:59think he's already thinking about Vial.
28:01No, he's already thinking.
28:02I mean, if he wasn't thinking, his mechanic let him know he needed to be thinking about
28:06it.
28:07Tom is doing a good job of responding.
28:08As we've been talking with Hayden and Jett Lawrence, when you're out front now, it's
28:12up to Hayden to be perfect to try to catch you.
28:16What risk is he taking to do that?
28:18As long as you can keep hitting your marks, you might have a chance to hold this off and
28:22hopefully Hayden just kind of maybe gives up.
28:24We know he ain't going to do that.
28:28Let's get the lap time in a moment.
28:30There's the mechanic.
28:31Legs.
28:32What's that mean?
28:33Maybe he's letting him know he ain't got no legs.
28:42I'm assuming he's probably telling him to stand up a little bit more, use your legs
28:46with the bike.
28:48Probably something that's going on.
28:49He's maybe sitting down a little bit more or he wants him to use his legs to soak up
28:54some of these bumps.
28:55Either way, he needs to change it up.
28:58When your mechanics throw on something like that, that means they've already had that
29:00conversation in between the moto that Tom would know exactly what legs mean.
29:05The last time around, both Shimoda and Vial were quicker than Deegan.
29:10I was talking to you, J.T., and Adam yesterday about what the legs and also the back feel
29:16like when you get to this final stage of the second moto on this track.
29:20It's tough.
29:21The legs, you'll start seeing these guys sitting down, and usually just the lap riders, you'll
29:26start seeing them sitting down, and as J.T. Mentioned earlier, they started going a little
29:30bit farther on the inside trying to move these bumps, but right now, Tom Vial, no legs, no
29:35back.
29:36He ain't got no choice.
29:37He needs to go out there and get it done, J.T.
29:38People don't like sitting at home if you don't race or ride.
29:44You don't think about it so much, but riders use their legs so much to squeeze the motorcycle
29:49and it holds it stable and it holds it still, so when they're going through these bumps
29:53and they're trying to control the motorcycle because they have to hold on so tight because
29:57the bike is wanting to go every way but straight, so your legs are really more of a stabilizer.
30:03You're squeezing the sides of the bike to make it go where you want to go, so it could
30:07be just a reminder of that as well.
30:09All right.
30:10Let's see if Vial can hold it.
30:12The gap between he and Deegan has stabilized at least for the moment.
30:16Ten minutes and two laps to go.
30:38Another lap clicks off for Vial, James.
30:40You notice a few times when guys start sitting down a little bit more, they start getting
30:47tired.
30:48They try to sit down in little spots.
30:49You saw that on that last straightaway, Tom was standing and he sat down.
30:53That bike swapped out from underneath him, so you can tell with him, it's normal for
30:58all these guys.
30:59The legs to start feeling the back to start going out in the second mode of the south
31:02wing, but Tom is doing a good job at least holding Hayden at that nine seconds and eventually
31:07Hayden to basically start focusing on Joe Shimoda and not worry about Tom if Tom can
31:12keep this gap for a couple more laps.
31:16This is the critical juncture.
31:19The final stretch of what might be the toughest track physically they'll deal with this season.
31:26Checking in with Hymus.
31:27He is in eighth, so not as strong in this moto, and he's in a battle right now, a master
31:35pool.
31:36They've been close the entire time.
31:38Checking in with the fly racing riders.
31:39Hymus eighth.
31:40Kasey Cochran is 11th, the rookie on the rock star Husqvarna, and Dylan Schwartz after getting
31:45run into in moto one, good to see him still fighting hard in 19th.
31:50If Hymus is able to make two passes, he would actually, I believe, salvage overall podium
31:56today.
31:57He's got to get back near kitchen to be third overall.
32:01He's coming up on one of the hardest and strongest riders on the track with Ty Masterpool,
32:06so that's not going to be an easy feat, but Ty has been riding good all day.
32:10Chance has as well.
32:11So being your first time at southwick, you're really about to find out what southwick is
32:16all about.
32:17You've got eight minutes to see if you can get around a couple more guys and maybe get
32:19your first podium at your first visit here.
32:25Hymus said there is plenty of sand in Idaho, and this kid is known for gnarly training.
32:32There is the 31 of Jordan Smith.
32:35Did he slip by Masterpool?
32:37Yeah.
32:38Yeah.
32:39He slipped by, and now he's up to Sabachi.
32:42Sabachi is the rider ahead of him, so Smith up to sixth.
32:44Good ride.
32:45Joey has been riding good all day long, and Jordan, I think he might have went down that
32:51first moto, but he had a quiet top ten finish, I believe, and he's another rider that always
32:56has some speed but starts and crashes and just bad luck.
33:00For him, every moto that he finishes this season, he'll just get stronger and stronger,
33:05and as I mentioned a few weeks ago, he was leading the points, the west coast, the title
33:09that Tom Biala won.
33:12He was one of his biggest competition, him and Levi, so it's no stranger to being out
33:16front and knowing how to win these things.
33:18He just needs confidence at this point.
33:19Yeah, he started the year pretty strong, did Jordan, and he's trailed off, getting
33:23it back together here as he chases down Sabachi, and Sabachi, man, he takes it on the chin.
33:31Starts haven't been good, but I saw him yesterday, and he said, well, Deegan, he proved Deegan
33:35come through the pack, so I'm not using that as an excuse, and that's the way Sabachi has
33:38always been as he's digging deep here in fifth.
33:49Supermoto cross playoffs, two full days of SNX fun.
33:53You want to be there when history gets made.
33:55That will be in Concord, North Carolina, Charlotte motor speedway, Fort Worth, Texas, and Texas
34:00motor speedway, and Las Vegas.
34:02The strip at Las Vegas, the drag strip that's all part of the Las Vegas motor speedway complex.
34:08Go to supermotocross.com for info.
34:13But then Sabachi, two veterans of the 250 division, both in their late 20s, and against
34:21a bunch of young guys in this class.
34:25Sabachi holding strong.
34:26Yeah, Joey's looking really good, still pounding away.
34:29He's been riding good all year, but bad starts, crashes here and there, probably didn't ride
34:35better in the results.
34:36So good to see him, and it looks like the team might have figured out what was going
34:41on with the bike, or at least making some changes, heard that little rev up, and hopefully
34:46Jordan can get to him.
34:49Got past the rider so he didn't get caught up as well, but, yeah, nice to see Joey up
34:53here fighting top five for the triumph, and see if Jordan Smith can get around him.
35:00All right.
35:03Final moments here of the final 250 moto of the day at Southwick, but stay with us because
35:08450 moto 2 is coming your way.
35:11It's Joey Sabachi on the 17, the triumph, holding off the 31 of Jordan Smith.
35:16The battles have settled down, so we're going to give you the motosport.com whole shot replay
35:20here.
35:21Levi kitchen in green.
35:22Yeah, Levi was just on the inside, and you can see, looked like Tom Vial, he got there
35:26ahead of Hayden Deegan, but he was worried about Hayden running him a little bit wide,
35:31so Tom left that door open, but it was Hayden Deegan, I mean, Levi kitchen getting that
35:37whole shot, and then soon after, here's the scrub that we saw Hayden Deegan.
35:42Oh, wow.
35:45Scrub or save, either way, put Deegan into the lead.
35:48Yeah, I'm going to say that's a save.
35:49He meant to scrub it, but it slid out from underneath.
35:52Either way, he moved up into the lead, but that was beautiful to watch.
35:58And that gap has stayed right around the 9.4 to 9.8 second mark between Deegan and the
36:04leader, Vial, really ever since then, Shimoda, all alone in second.
36:11I believe the overall podium today would look like Vial, Deegan, and kitchen if it ends
36:17like this.
36:18Yeah, and I think what's helped Tom is that Joe has been riding really good, like he's
36:23been keeping him very honest, like Joe is the fastest person on the track over a second,
36:28so he doesn't necessarily have to worry about Hayden, he has another guy on him that's keeping
36:32him and pushing him forward, so as much as we were worried about Hayden, Tom had to worry
36:37about Joe, that number 30, catching him as well, and that's probably helped him keep
36:40that gap and keep on the gas.
36:43Ninth in moto one for Shimoda after a terrible start.
36:47This is much more like it.
36:48He won the second moto at this race a year ago and running second now.
36:54Rider out of Japan on the Honda.
36:57Oh, lap rider really slowed him there.
37:01Yeah, it's going to be tough for Joe, but he was on the same straightaway as Tom.
37:04Now he's gotten to the point where when he comes out of some of these corners, he can
37:08see Tom, and as a rider, if you can see him, you feel like you've got a chance.
37:12So this race might not be over, and I think if Joe gets around him, then that's going
37:17to change the overall, and it would be Hayden, Deegan that would end up winning overall.
37:20Vial is second in moto one, so that would be enough.
37:242.1 will get it for Vial.
37:28What's important here is that every championship points are paid out per moto.
37:32Yeah, I was thinking if Joe actually beat him.
37:35Joe does, yeah.
37:36You're right.
37:37Yeah.
37:38If Joe can get to Vial.
37:39Yeah, you're right, actually, James.
37:40He's cut it down.
37:41It had been about five seconds the whole race.
37:43Now it's down to three.
37:44Yeah, and Joe got stuck behind that lap rider, so to me, he's got a lot more pace, and it
37:48was closing down quite a bit.
37:50Look at the lap times.
37:51Shimoda ran a 2.18.
37:52Vial ran a 2.21, and Deegan a 2.20.
37:56So Vial and Deegan have slowed the pace.
37:58Now, they might have had one mistake or a lap rider, or is it just Shimoda going that
38:03much faster?
38:04He's still closing.
38:05No, this is Joe Shimoda being Joe Shimoda like we expected to see, because he got caught
38:10up behind that lap rider, and he still ran that 2.18, so that would have been faster,
38:14and you can see how quickly he's catching Tom.
38:17What has happened here?
38:21It's Joe time.
38:22That's what it is.
38:23Vial better put the hammer down.
38:26Shimoda can see him.
38:28Going to be three, maybe four laps to go.
38:33Oh, Shimoda is letting it hang out.
38:40He's letting it hang out, and you know he's got that confidence from last year, been able
38:44to get a win here, too, and he went up against Tom Vial, so for him, if he can get a little
38:49bit closer, we have a race at him.
38:53I'm good friends with Joe, and we talk about all the time.
38:55We talk about finding the dog.
38:57He's very precise.
38:58He doesn't make really bad decisions out there.
39:05Sometimes he's been a bit too timid in the past, and, yeah, we talk about finding the
39:08dog, James, and it looks like he's found it.
39:11You got that dog in him right now, but I believe Vial might have responded.
39:16He didn't get any closer since he got near him at the beginning of this lap.
39:23Yeah, well, if Tom don't get away, that dog might bite him.
39:26Yeah, Joe, Tom's definitely responded, and Hayden Deegan's not too far behind these guys
39:34as well, so you know if Joe catches him and they start battling, Hayden Deegan's going
39:39to be right there.
39:40Oh, and we got a podium shakeup.
39:43If you look at the bottom box, battle for sixth, kitchen has gone all the way back to
39:47sixth place.
39:49They both got around him, so that will now move Shimoda to the overall podium, even if
39:55it ends like this.
39:56He'll go to third overall.
39:59Kitchen had it.
40:00Yeah, it looked like Levi went down.
40:02He ran at 2.32 on that last lap, and everybody else on it is 2.19, 2.22, so, yeah, Levi must
40:09have went down on that one, and the clock didn't expire, so there's still three laps
40:14to go, or two and a half at least.
40:18Clock just expired now.
40:19It'll be two to go next time around, so Vial almost had two to go, instead three, and Deegan
40:26is starting to close, and if you look at the second moto last week, it was only at this
40:30point, the last three laps, where Deegan started taking huge chunks out of the leaders.
40:36It's Kitchen and Hymus now.
40:39Yeah, man.
40:40Look at Deegan.
40:41He's doing it again.
40:42Hey, Deegan is coming, and Joe is going to start around behind him, and it's just going
40:48to push him up to Tom.
40:50As I said, this race might not be over.
40:53We were thinking Joe was going for the lead.
40:55It might be the other way around.
40:57We know who definitely has that dog in him.
40:59Deegan does.
41:00He shows it every week.
41:01Can he do this again?
41:04Crowd's going wild.
41:05Yeah, man, you got to know, this is what I mentioned, that history of what happens.
41:10These guys know Hayden Deegan, and Hayden believes that in himself, too, so he knows,
41:15look, man, if I'm here, I know I'm stronger than him.
41:18He's going to will himself to get around him, and the time he's made up in the last two
41:21laps, it's been almost seven seconds that he's closed down on these guys to get within
41:26three seconds of the leader.
41:28He made up ten on the leader master poll in two laps last race at high point.
41:33Is that Vial?
41:36Is that Vial?
41:37Right to the rear wheel of Vial.
41:38It's a three-rider battle for the lead.
41:39And the Southwick faithful loving it.
41:40Shimoda is right on Vial's rear wheel.
41:41They're in lap traffic.
41:42Now it's the two riders in the front of the screen.
41:43Shimoda's about to take the lead.

41:45it's rolling, especially out of the corners.
41:46It looks like his clutch is slipping or whatnot.
