00:00Late at night, I toss and I turn, and I dream of what I need.
00:10Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:11And today, we're counting down our picks
00:13for the best times DreamWorks villains
00:15made their true intentions known.
00:17Beware of spoilers ahead.
00:19Find this panda and bring him to me.
00:22Yes, sir.
00:23Number 10, General Mandible, Ants.
00:26You're crazy.
00:30I believe history will see things differently.
00:32Notwithstanding the drama with Pixar and A Bug's Life,
00:35DreamWorks fans remember Ants for its star-studded cast
00:39of insect characters.
00:40Gene Hackman voices General Mandible,
00:43who at first appears to have noble intentions
00:45for the colony.
00:47He preaches about a new life for Antkind,
00:49replacing old traditions with efficient new practices
00:53and other things you'd expect to hear from a leader.
00:55A fresh start.
00:57Imagine it.
00:58A strong colony, sir, a colony we can be proud of.
01:02After a while, however, we learn of Mandible's plans
01:06to seize power over the monarchy by sacrificing
01:09countless lives.
01:10It's probably fair to call him the most ruthless
01:13would-be dictator to ever exist among animated bugs.
01:17We will rinse away all the filth from our gutters.
01:20We'll start anew with you by my side as my queen.
01:23Number 9, Zekul Khan, The Road to El Dorado.
01:27This 2000s buddy comedy has more than just laughs
01:31and stunning animation.
01:32It also has an antagonist that you wouldn't suspect.
01:36The high priest of the city of El Dorado, Zekul Khan,
01:40initially welcomes Miguel and Tulio warmly
01:43and embraces them as gods.
01:45My lords, I am Zekul Khan, your devoted high priest
01:49and speaker for the gods.
01:52Hey.
01:53Of course they're lying, but that's beside the point.
01:56As the story progresses, Zekul Khan exposes himself
02:00as manipulative, sadistic, and way too eager
02:03to offer innocent civilians to the quote-unquote gods.
02:06You wish to have your victims bound to an altar
02:09or would you prefer them free-range?
02:12Even though he attempts to justify
02:14this murderous behavior, it's safe to assume
02:16Zekul Khan only became the high priest
02:19to satisfy his bloodlust.
02:21Ooh, my, my, my, my, my.
02:24It's not called the Age of the Jaguar for nothing.
02:27Ha ha ha.
02:29Number eight, Guy Garnier, Turbo.
02:32How do you do it, shattering your own records
02:34year after year?
02:35Ha ha ha, well, when a cheetah chases after a gazelle,
02:39does he ever stop to think,
02:41maybe I've caught enough gazelles.
02:43Maybe I should just settle down, try the vegan thing.
02:46No!
02:47Turbo is a fun animated flick about a snail
02:50following his racing dreams.
02:51The protagonist, voiced by Ryan Reynolds,
02:54is inspired by Guy Garnier,
02:56a French-Canadian Indy 500 champion played by Bill Hader.
03:00But Garnier soon reveals his true nature.
03:03He is cold-hearted, scheming, and willing to be underhanded
03:08just for the sake of winning the race.
03:10Because of you, the whole world will be watching this race.
03:15And when the checkered flag drops,
03:17they'll be watching me win.
03:20There's even a point near the end
03:22where he tries to squash Turbo.
03:24As a whole, the movie is pretty light-hearted
03:26compared to many others on this list.
03:29However, there's an important moral to be found here.
03:32Not everyone is who they seem to be,
03:34even if they were once your idol.
03:37I will not lose to a snail!
03:40Number seven, Lord Shen, Kung Fu Panda 2.
03:44Ha ha ha, do you actually believe
03:47this is the warrior destined to defeat me?
03:49There have been a few installments
03:51in the Kung Fu Panda saga,
03:53and they've featured a lot of formidable villains.
03:56Lord Shen of the second film
03:58can easily be called the most deadly.
04:00If Shen continued down this dark path,
04:04he would be defeated by a warrior of black and white.
04:08But this conniving peacock didn't start out that way.
04:12Portrayed by Gary Oldman,
04:14Lord Shen was born into royalty
04:16as the heir to the throne of Gongmen City.
04:19But this wasn't enough for Shen.
04:21He possessed an unnatural thirst for power
04:24and a desire to take over all of China.
04:27These sociopathic tendencies
04:29are definitely not what you'd expect from a royal,
04:32but they do make for a very entertaining
04:35and frightening bad guy.
04:36It's your parting gift, in that it will part you.
04:40Part of you here, part of you there,
04:42and part of you way over there, staining the wall.
04:46Number six, Humpty Dumpty, Puss in Boots.
04:50How long are you gonna hold a grudge?
04:52It's been seven years.
04:53That's like 35 cat years.
04:55In 2011, we learned more about Puss' life
04:59before he met up with Shrek.
05:00The mysterious boot-wearing swashbuckler
05:03grew up in an orphanage,
05:04where he became close friends
05:06with an eccentric talking egg named Humpty Dumpty.
05:09We go with the Beanstalk Outlaws,
05:12and we come down legends.
05:16So what do you say?
05:19Partners?
05:20Humpty took Puss under his wing,
05:22and the two took a solemn oath to be brothers forever,
05:25but Puss soon learned that his comrade
05:27is not who he thought he was.
05:29After unwittingly taking part in a robbery attempt
05:33and becoming a fugitive,
05:34Puss steers clear of Humpty until the events of this movie,
05:37wherein the latter betrays him once again.
05:40This little adventure was about one thing,
05:45revenge.
05:47Arguably, Puss' brotherhood with this bad egg
05:50shaped the anti-hero aspect of this character.
05:54Number five, Ramses, the Prince of Egypt.
05:58DreamWorks loves to play with the relationships
06:01between old friends.
06:02Very well, Moses, I'll play along.
06:06In some cases, the buddies reunite by the end,
06:09but not in 1998's The Prince of Egypt.
06:12This underrated classic profoundly presents
06:14the story of Exodus in a way that's pretty accurate,
06:18but still manages to be family-friendly.
06:20One creative liberty taken here
06:22is the close bond between Moses
06:24and his adopted older brother, Ramses.
06:26I am the morning and the evening star.
06:29Ramses, it shall be as I say.
06:33The character is an especially heartbreaking version
06:36of Pharaoh from the biblical tale.
06:38He and Moses were inseparable growing up,
06:41but when Moses returns to Egypt to free his people,
06:44Ramses, desperate to follow in father's footsteps,
06:47won't budge.
06:48Thus, Moses is forced into a battle
06:50with the person he once loved more than anyone.
06:53I do not know this God.
06:56Neither will I let your people go.
06:59Number four, Dave, aka Dr. Octavius Brine,
07:03Penguins of Madagascar.
07:05In Penguins of Madagascar, the fearless foursome
07:08we grew to love in the original trilogy
07:10embark on their own adventure.
07:12Here, they're up against the insane Dr. Octavius Brine.
07:16You think that's gonna make everybody love you?
07:20No, but they'll despise you.
07:23Ah!
07:26And I'm sure gonna love that.
07:28But this freakishly flexible mad scientist
07:31is more than he seems.
07:33In fact, he's actually Dave, an octopus
07:37who was upstaged by the penguins
07:38back at the Central Park Zoo.
07:40Behold, as I unleash the full power of the Medusa Serum.
07:48Watching his tragic backstory,
07:50it's hard not to sympathize with Dave
07:52in his lifetime of rejection.
07:54But after seeing him pursue our penguin heroes
07:57for the rest of the movie, we're hardly on his side.
08:00Dave, he has eight limbs, but zero remorse.
08:03Ramirez, Dave, Dave, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
08:08Number three, Professor Marmalade, The Bad Guys.
08:12Professor Marmalade, this year's recipient
08:14of the Golden Dolphin,
08:15the most annoying good creature on the planet.
08:18This 2022 film is a prime example
08:21of DreamWorks' experimenting
08:23with the roles of hero and villain.
08:25Except here, it's done with animals,
08:28including a guinea pig who turns out to be the real bad guy.
08:31All eyes will be on you tonight, not me.
08:35You're such a good boy.
08:39You, it was all you.
08:43Professor Marmalade is introduced as a philanthropist
08:46who's renowned for his good deeds.
08:48Being good just feels so good.
08:52Marmalade is tasked with reforming
08:54the titular gang of bad guys,
08:56but little do they know that the underhanded rodent
08:59has been playing them the entire time.
09:02Marmalade's plan to frame the protagonists
09:04presents a powerful argument,
09:07allowing audiences to really think about
09:09what makes someone good or bad.
09:11You stole the meteorite?
09:13Oh, it's not just the meteorite.
09:15I told you guys it's a bug.
09:17It's not a bug.
09:18Number two, Hal Stewart, aka Titan, Megamind.
09:22We could rule the city.
09:24You want to team up?
09:25Even drew up some new costume designs, see?
09:27Costume designs?
09:28You'd be the brain, so you'd get a little brain
09:30wearing glasses on your costume or something.
09:32Like the rest of the DreamWorks canon,
09:34Megamind was primarily created for a young audience.
09:38Even so, the film offers a poignant message
09:41about good versus evil.
09:43Hal Stewart is introduced as a dorky, awkward cameraman
09:46who's hopelessly in love with news reporter Roxanne Ritchie.
09:50Other movies might have taken a more familiar route,
09:53making a lovable doofus like Hal the hero.
09:56Instead, when he is unexpectedly injected
09:59with superpowers and subsequently rejected by Roxanne,
10:02he turns to the dark side,
10:04wreaking havoc on Metro City as Titan.
10:07No, no, no, you're a hero.
10:09Being a hero is for losers.
10:11It's work, work, work, 24-7, and for what?
10:14Some villains are born, but others, like Hal Stewart,
10:17have evil thrust upon them.
10:19Okay, look, I'm not sure where to go with that.

10:38Number one, Fairy Godmother, Shrek 2.
10:42You better get in.
10:43We need to talk.
10:44This glamorous but nasty sorceress is proof
10:48that evil often lurks where you least suspect it.
10:51Voiced by the hilarious Jennifer Saunders,
10:54Fairy Godmother appears benevolent at first,
10:57offering to provide Fiona with everything a princess needs.
11:01But in a chilling reveal,
11:03we learn that her so-called wish-granting
11:05isn't rooted in sincerity.
11:07Indeed, all she cares about is maintaining
11:10a twisted version of order in the kingdom of far, far away,
11:14one that gets her and her son power.
11:16Oh, believe me, Harold, it's what's best,
11:19not only for your daughter,
11:23but for your kingdom.
11:25Even when she sees the lengths Shrek will go
11:27to prove his love for his wife,
11:29Fairy Godmother does everything she can
11:31to warp situations and perceptions.
11:34It's all to suit her own happily ever after.
11:37Plus, she has a killer song number.
