00:00Right, I'm at Elgin Town Hall here with Denise Whitworth, who's the returning officer for
00:06the Moray West, Nairn and Strasse Bay constituency. Denise, can you just describe what is going
00:11on at the moment with the county staff behind us?
00:14Yep, we're just in the process of verifying the votes that have been cast in polling stations
00:19to make sure that our numbers of votes received match up with the numbers that our county
00:24staff, our polling staff have told us were cast in each polling station.
00:28And we've just learned that there's more than 260 staff involved at the 59 polling
00:33stations and in the county here tonight, so what would you say about the job they all
00:37do in this process?
00:39That's right, it's a huge effort from all of the staff and we're really grateful for
00:41them coming out, particularly in a summer period where some of them have been on holiday.
00:46They've had a massive amount of work to do and you can see they're really busy trying
00:50to get through all of the votes this evening.
00:51It's noticeable though, it's a long day and it's going to be a long night still, but they
00:56do it with a smile on their face as well, don't they?
00:58They absolutely do.
00:59I think that might be the sugar rush from all the sweets they've got under the table.
01:02Excellent.
01:03But without them it couldn't function, it just wouldn't happen, would it?
01:07Yeah, and lots of these staff work in other jobs through the day, so we appreciate that
01:11they've come out and done this extra piece of work for us this evening, but absolutely,
01:15without them giving of their time then the election process wouldn't work and we would
01:20really be in a bit of a spot.
01:22Thank you Denise, thank you.
