00:06new EU rules have made them mandatory. Despite Brexit, the law applies here in the UK too.
00:11But what exactly is a speed limiter? How is it likely to change the way we drive? And
00:15why has the new rule been introduced? In 2019, the European Union Commission approved the
00:19plans for all EU member states, and in a move likely to make it more convenient for car
00:24manufacturers shipping vehicles to the UK and European markets, it will also apply here.
00:30From this month, car manufacturers are required by law to fit new vehicles with ISA, or Intelligent
00:35Speed Assist. It works by using GPS data and or traffic sign recognition cameras to work
00:40out what the speed limit is and then prevent you from exceeding it. Government stats show
00:44that 50% of cars exceed the speed limit in 30 zones, and a third of all road deaths occur
00:49because of excessive speed. And so it's hoped the rule will reduce the number of accidents,
00:53injuries and fatalities on our road network. But they're not infallible. Critics point
00:57out they can be unreliable and misinterpret or misread limits. So how do you feel about
